I never knew bow ties were not 'approved' witness apparel. Since I was 15 years old I mostly wore bow ties to the meetings, out in service and on assembly programs. When I was a Bethelite, sometimes I would fill in on the waiter crew. I was allowed to wear all manner of colorful bow ties until some 'tight ass' Bethel Elder 'reminded' me that all Bethel waiters wear a BLACK bow tie only. In fact, at my going away party from my congregation, I was given a large hand made bow tie mounted on a plaque with the following inscription: "I will not put my trust in my bow" - Psalms 44:6.

has any one had this feeling
by Akid48 ini remember having this feeling when i was younger that something was off when it came to meetings and the people there seemed just off.i had feelings like that when i was like 5 or 6 and i would say i was kinda dumb back then but still i had a feeling like that when i would not have that often.still to this day i dont know what got me to have that feeling i was just wanting to know if any had this feeling to and still cant remember what made your mind give you a red flag..

You are not alone, Akid48. When I was between 5 and 7 years old I had a copy of the Photo Drama of Creation and read it cover to cover. Even at that age I had a WTF moment. None of it made sense to me but being a 'born in' (almost, my mother was baptised when I was a baby) I went along with it until adulthood. Even when I sincerely tried to put my nose to the grindstone and give the religion a try, I could not shake those feelings of doubt and uneasiness.

Very interesting scenario: A group of religious 'rulers' giving personalized gifts to a group of secular 'rulers'. Peer to peer gift giving or 'gifts among equals' is the impression that I take away from this encounter.

Rule of thumb: If you don't really know someone, you can't know their taste, so even a book you adored may be inappropriate.
It would seem to me highly unlikely that any of the Governing Body(tm) members were on a first name basis or were personal friends of any of these politicians. Hence, if some of the politicians did not believe in the Bible, giving one as a gift could have done more harm than good.

All this draft talk got me curious. So I got out my Bethel invitation letter to see what it had to say on the subject. "Your questionnaire indicates you have received a 4-D classification from your draft board. If there has been any change in this please advise me before reporting." N. H. Knorr. As an interesting side point, some type of issue arose with the draft board not too long into my Bethel career. I never found out about it until it was taken care of by the legal department. I got a packet in the Bethel mail with all the documents and a letter from W. K. Jackson stating that his department had handled the matter for me and not to give it any concern. Paternalism at it's finest!

Speaking of the excellent medical treatment at God's House.....................I had terrible digestive issues at Bethel. Diarrhea , constipation, headaches, upset stomach, reactive hypoglycemia and throwing up in the morning (some of which I attribute to the stress of Bethel life). At any rate, I consulted with the good Dr. Roylance. His diagnosis? 'If you don't like the food here at Bethel, you can LEAVE at any time!' Years later, through an endomysial antibody screening, it was discovered that I have severe 'gluten intolerance' but not full blown celiac disease. Now I realize, that I probably would have had to leave Bethel because of this but it would have been nice to know that they cared enough about me personally as a human being and fellow 'brother' to point me in the right direction to try and alleviate my suffering. My Bethel experience was 'shit' on so many levels.(No pun intended)

JWs MUST Accept The Watchtower Teachings EVEN When They Are Wrong!

unless they tell you that their understanding has changed, you cannot believe anything unless they say it's ok. .
many years ago i questioned them about their ridiculous view that whenever the word "heart" was mentioned, it was a literal blood filled organ.

What I find comical about this is that I have a Mennonite customer that used this scripture on me to prove that the Mennonites have the "TRUTH" . 'That is how I know that I am in the true religion, because we Mennonites speak in agreement' he has told me on more than one occasion.
