YA THINK?
since i woke up and left i've been contacted by others i knew from my youth who've also left the cult.
also people around the world on facebook adding me out of the blue because we have mutual friends and they occasionally ask me stuff or share their story.. what i've noticed in the vast majority of cases, is that people are waking up not because of the arc or doctrine but apathy.
active jws are becoming less and less interested, less and less bothered.

I've sent you a PM, charonsdog.

Was Dean Songer really into his 90's? I would have figured him to be in his 80's. I never knew him personally as I was mostly at Watchtower Farms. When he visited the Farm, I tried to sit near him during meals so that I could eavesdrop on his conversations. A very smart man. At any rate, I got rimless glasses to be like him and Knorr...........ahh the foolishness of a youthful 'fanboy'. Apparently, he died a 'virgin' and a eunuch in service to his Lord (The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society/Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses). May he rest in peace.
there was a talk i heard recently given by a top bethel bro, he was complaining that the type of young jws that have been joining bethel in recent years has been totally unfit for work or even life.
he called them "cotton wool jws" as he says that the parents of these young ones have kept them so sheltered from life that by the time they are of age to strike out on their own they are completely unable to cope socially, emotionally, mentally and that they have no practical life's skills or instincts of common sense or responsibility.
he said that the brothers at bethel have to work at peeling off the layers of cotton wool these ones have come wrapped in and that often when exposed to the reality of life away from mummy they quite literally go running back home.. for once i actually agree with a brother on the platform, i've met many a young teen or young adult whose life has been one long warm bath as it were.
"He eventually jumped off the roof." - days of future passed
Yes, that was James Olson. He took his own life in 1973. His brother was one of my room mates at Watchtower Farms. Sad......sad.......sad story.
in this summer's convention theres a video showing the tale of a rather geeky plain looking brother whose relating the tale of how the prettiest girl in the whole school fancied him (!
) and sent him a love letter, the letter is read and it says .
"i think we would get along,i'm attracted to you, i like your personality, and that's not all, i think we could have fun together.
'Dude ur totally snacky! Word's out ur packin' 100% all-beef thermometer! Glaze my bap with ur love juice'. Perhaps this would be more realistic in this day and age? Guess what Governing Body.........were not in Kansas anymore.
this article won’t change your mind - the facts on why facts alone can’t fight false beliefs.
brilliant article in the atlantic by julie beck discussing the phenomena of cognitive dissonance and how it affects religious and political beliefs.
it includes some interesting thoughts on how social media has magnified the problem.. spoiler - she is not optimistic about the possibility of successfully reasoning with members of religious cults.. the article also has a link to the 45 minute audio version.. link....
"curiosity can lead to their 'spiritual demise.' - Anders Anderson
i was watching lloyd evans rebuttal to the saturday program of the be courageous convention.
lloyd pointed out something that had occurred to me as well:.
all this talk and examples of courage, whether it be standing up in class defending intelligent design, putting up with being imprisoned, not running away from bullies, always having a reply to someone who tries to ridicule your faith... the young ones are encourages - nay, commanded - to stand their ground and be courageous.
9. "Watchtower......,....never has had, any authority over me." - Gerrit Losch
"Gerrit Losch is a LIAR." - Sparky1
"But it couldn't be proved in the court." - Drearyweather
I am not questioning the conclusions and decisions of the court in regards to Gerrit Losch's CURRENT relationship with Watchtower. Because of the way that the ecclesiastical branch and legal corporations of Jehovah's Witnesses are now structured, he can claim that Watchtower has no authority over him and that would be the truth. Prior to the publication of the article, "A Governing Body as Different from a Legal Corporation" in the December 15, 1971 Watchtower magazine he was under the authority of Watchtower and it's legal corporations. Please don't rehash the court case to say that you disagree with me. I am only calling this one statement that Losch made a lie because the history of the structure of the Jehovah's Witness religion proves his statement to be a lie. Nothing more, nothing less. A lie is still a lie even if it can't be decided as such by a court of law. And I agree whole heartedly with the OP. Gerrit Losch and other members of the Governing Body do not seem to be showing much courage in defense of their faith.

"The purposes of this Society are: To act as the servant of and legal world-wide governing agency for that body of Christian persons known as Jehovah's Witnesses;.......to authorize and appoint agents, servants, employees, teachers, instructors, evangelists, missionaries and ministers to go forth to all the world ........" - Taken from the Charter of The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, Inc as quoted in the Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses for 1969 pages 49 and 50.
I repeat: Gerrit Losch is a LIAR when he says that 'Watchtower never has had any authority over me.' His appointment as Circuit Servant and Missionary came BEFORE the establishment of the Governing Body and the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was AUTHORISED to be a Circuit Servant and a Missionary by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society and in that position he reported to that governing agency. The charter itself even makes the claim that the Watchtower Society is the governing agency for Jehovah's Witnesses. Spin it as you like Drearyweather but Gerrit Losch is a LIAR. He did not appoint himself as a Circuit Servant or Missionary. The authority that granted him those positions was the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Period.

"Any authority that exists is what a person gives to them." - Drearyweather
You are correct. Therefore, when Gerrit Losch accepted any appointments within the "Organization" he automatically gave them authority over him. Each of his assignments that he would accept from the "Organization" came on WATCHTOWER stationary. Period. If he were to defy his orders from WATCHTOWER he would lose his position and everything that went along with it. His monthly stipend (wages) his automobile (benefit) and his health insurance(benefit) provided by the WATCHTOWER organization, not the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses. If he decided to leave the Jehovah's Witness religion, that would only prove that he no longer accepts the authority structure of the religion but not that he did not accept that structure in the past. Gerrit Losch has been a Witness for a long time. He was appointed a Circuit Servant in 1963 and attended the 41st class of Gilead in 1965. At the 59th Gilead graduation class, F. W. Franz gave a speech. In that speech he states, 'The Society has the right and authority to send out missionaries.' Gerrit Losch was active in his positions as a Jehovah's Witness pre-Governing Body and pre-Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Therefore, any position that he accepted came under the authority and direction of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society as the legal arm directing the work of Jehovah's Witness. I hope this helps.

"Watchtower does not have, and never has had, any authority over me."- Gerrit Losch
"Losch was correct in refusing to appear on behalf of "Watchtower" ".- Doubter
Actually, both statements are incorrect. Losch has been around the Jehovah's Witness religion for a long time. Prior to becoming "The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses" all authority to direct District Overseers, Circuit Overseers, Special Pioneers and Bethelites flowed through the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Any instructions that he would have received from 'headquarters' would have been on a WATCHTOWER letterhead and rubber stamped Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. or Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, Inc. If the courts could find early correspondence between the Watchtower headquarters and Gerrit Losch he would easily be proven a LIAR.
