john.prestor...you may be thinking of the old kingdom Halls that were once built and owned by each individual local congregation? They are now being replaced by a basic, big box design that comes in three sizes. "Cookie cutter" Kingdom Halls for "cookie cutter" Witnesses.

I dont understand why KH's are less attractive than churches
by nowawake14 ini mean, come on.
if they call themselves the "true", then why are most kingdom halls not as attractive as churches and dont do any better?.

There is no need for a Kingdom Hall to be beautiful, architecturally impressive or aesthetically pleasing because.........they are not churches or houses of worship. They are indoctrination centers.

It seems to be some sort of 'relaxation' of the rules from days gone by.

Fear Of Demons:
by Englishman inthere was a time when jw's wouldn't buy anything that wasn't brand spanking new.
it might be a way for the demons to enter your home!.

My first girlfriend after I left Bethel in the 70's was raised in a large Witness family with all the attendant emotional baggage. Unknown to me (she hid it very well) she suffered from extreme anxiety and anxiety attacks. At any rate, I gave her a beautiful antique gold Art Deco wristwatch that I had purchased from an estate and had completely restored. Shortly before we broke up, I noticed that she no longer wore the watch. When I inquired about it, she told me that her parents wanted her to throw it away. It seems that they had determined that her nighttime anxiety attacks were 'demonic in origin' and were probably caused by the antique timepiece! Crazy is as crazy does.

A Question for Born-ins Who Had a Parent Leave the Cult Before They Did
by jp1692 inquestion: have any of you that are now exjws had a parent leave the religion before you, and you shunned them because of that?
if so—and while you were still in the cult—what, if anything, could your parent have done to reach your heart and begin a reconciliation?
it’s been almost ten years since i left the religion and my two sons continue to shun me and rebuff all efforts i make to reconcile.

From my perspective:
Your sons are fools! My father was never one of Jehovah's Witnesses. In fact, my father was a bum. He was an alcoholic, bigamist and serial womanizer. I never even met the man. He died at 53 years old from his lifestyle. My siblings and I were raised by an unstable, religiously fanatical , dyed in the wool Jehovah's Witness mother. I will be 64 years old this year and had to make my way through life mostly on my own. No father to love and support me and give me guidance. No father to buffer me and my siblings from being raised by an unstable religious fanatic. I worked very, very hard to be a success in life but would trade it all for the love, support and guidance of a caring father. Your sons need to realize that they are very fortunate to have a father that loved and cared for them. You are worth more as a person than any religious ideology but they will have to find that out for themselves. Good luck and I hope things work out for you in the long run.

And JW's are not allowed to think about sex? O_o
by nowawake14 ini thought this might catch your eye.
especially if you're a man.. they say thinking about sex is wrong!
that's biologically impossible.

WillYouDFme, your book study conductor must have been a really boring guy. It doesn't seem that he was much of a cunning linguist.

A mixed bag of personalities and former Elders, Ministerial Servants, Pioneers, Missionaries, Bethelites and Publishers as well as some who have never been Jehovah's Witnesses post here.

Two For One!
by snugglebunny inback in the day - yeah, i know, most things i write start like that!
however - back in the day there was an implicit rule ratio of 2 to 1 when it came to counting time.
two witnesses witnessing to one person for one hour would count one hour each.

"Two For One!" - snugglebunny
I guess the "two witness" rule could even apply to the preaching work!

Will the Russian brothers start to wake up?
by nowwhat? inif i was a russian brother i would be wondering what exactly is the gb doing to help us out.
they are sitting in their lakeside corporate country club doing nothing while outside worldly agencies are making known our plight.
i found it puzzling that they flew out of russia like a bat out of hell as soon as the court rendered its decision leaving us high and dry.

If I could give your comment 100 thumbs up, I would slimboy. I agree...throw the everyday Watchtower 'cattle' under the bus but if it were one of their own, they would have been much more discreet in not 'poking the Russian Bear'. To pirate and parody Joseph Stalin's alleged quote: 'The arrest of one Governing Body member is a tragedy, the arrest of hundreds of Jehovah's Witness publishers is a statistic.'
