In 1969 my family drove from Massachusetts to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles for the convention; a distance of over 3000 miles. We camped about a 2 hour drive from the assembly! That was the original 'long, hot summer.' We spent a month traveling and visiting relatives. If it weren't for the time wasted at the assembly, it would have been a great vacation.

What is the longest distance you drove to attend a summer Convention?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inhere is a photo of the milwaukee brewers ( american baseball team) county stadium.
for some reason, we were assigned this outdoor stadium for our 1975 four-day summer convention.
our congregation was located 90 miles away on the north side of chicago.. some congregation members stayed at milwaukee hotels for the four-day convention.

If you saw a governing body member being pummeled would you help them?
by Tenacious inbefore you answer; .
think about how they could care less how many families are broken up just to retain their power.
how they could care less if members are driven to suicide because of the deep programming and severe depression or strained family situations.. how they would rather let members die in order to retain their power and refuse to acknowledge their faulty bible reasoning regarding blood.. i could go on and on and on.

If they were being eaten by maggots, I'd leave them alone. It would be rude of me to interfere in a 'family reunion'.

Why Aren`t The G.B Members Representive Of All Nations ? and not just America ?
by smiddy3 inare all of the governing .body .members american citizens ?
shouldn`t they at least represent a greater proportion of nations in light of jesus being a saviour of all the world ?.
god loved the world of mankind right ?

Wouldn't a more accurate question be:
Why has the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses always been comprised mainly of individuals of Caucasian Anglo-Saxon descent from 'Westernized countries/cultures'? It does seem though that through the years, White Americans have mostly been in control of this religion.

Hellfire justifies torture = Armageddon justifies shunning?
by slimboyfat ina few weeks ago the watchtower study condemned the teaching of hellfire, among other things, because some religions have used the hellfire doctrine as a justification for torture:.
the false teaching of hellfire has been used to justify torture, including the burning at the stake of those who opposed church teachings.
according to a book on the spanish inquisition, some of those responsible for this cruelty may have believed that they were only giving heretics “a taste of what perpetual hellfire would be like” so that they would repent before dying and be saved from hellfire.. it occurs to me that jws justify disfellowshipping on a similar basis.

I wholeheartedly agree, Slimboy. Christendom uses Hellfire to keep their congregants 'in line' and Jehovah's Witnesses use the fear of Armageddon to keep their congregants 'in line'. Fear and not love seems to be the religious leaders primary 'spiritual (psychological) tool' for ruling their flocks.

Deborah and I are big movie fans and we try to go at least once a month. Things have been dry on the movie scene for us lately. The last 2 movies we saw were ARCTIC and APOLLO 11. For us, both were excellent to watch. ARCTIC was gut wrenching and APOLLO 11 a feel good trip down the road of nostalgia.
