I am of the opinion that some 'brain dead' member of the Governing Body (tm) helpers committee came up with the idea of applying 'overlapping generations economic theory' to Jehovah's Witnesses problem of how to explain away the 1914 generation teaching. Look what the fools did with three loaves of bread!

Overlapping Generation
by pandorasbox1914 inthe september 2015 broadcast had david splane explain matthew 24:34 “truly, i say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place”.
his explanation of this scripture was by means of a chart to indicate an overlapping generation.. .
no scripture was used to show the overlapping generation concept, and as a result it makes no sense.. to illustrate how crazy this concept is, look at the lyrics of the song my generation.. my generation.

Your Favorite Poetry
by compound complex inthank you, dear friends, for expressing your thoughts today on the importance of the arts in your lives.
many years ago, a number of threads were devoted to poetry, literature, even english grammar.
rather than resurrect an old thread -- usually with zero results -- i would like to introduce a new post, asking you to add some of your favorite verse.

Why would anyone choose to support Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by Half banana inwhat is the point of supporting a belief which began as a bronze age ox-headed idol called yahweh... in a religion designed for illiterate peasants now appropriated by a money-driven cult with a one hundred and forty six year unbroken record of total failure of its bible based predictions?.

MY Bethel Experience Part 17
by new boy inmore "odds and ends".
i liked lyman swingle (governing body member)......he was from alabama, he knew how to curse at the right time.
i think, that’s why i went to him, when i was having so much trouble with my future wife’s parents.

Your posts are great new boy and SPOT ON! Lyman Swingle was a character and mostly was his own man. I remember vividly a dedication talk he gave at the Highland NY kingdom hall in the mid 70's about true religion versus false religion. He went on and on about 'the goddess Venus who was the original Whore of Heaven that went around have immoral SEX with the other gods. Finally she had a bastard son named Cupid that went around shooting arrows at other minor gods causing them to fornicate indiscriminately. All that little bastard Cupid was interested in was SEX!'. It was a hilarious talk and there were some quizzical looks on lots of faces in the audience.
An interesting side note about the 'apostate' you call 'Mr. Frog'. If it is who I think it is, his name was Bill Norris. My family was friends with his ex-wife and her family. The story goes that he went through Gilead but did not graduate and while there got engaged to another student. 'Papa' Knorr was not happy about this at all and sent Bills betrothed out on assignment to a foreign country thereby splitting up the couple. (Of course, the girl could have chosen Bill over her assignment but we all know what the organization can do to normal human emotions , feelings and attachments.) At any rate, he married another woman but his being flunked out of Gilead and then losing his first love took a toll on his marriage. After having two children he left his wife and moved to New York to make a career out of tormenting Nathan Knorr and the Society. The funny thing is that his ex-wife remarried in the 70's and by the mid 90's she, her husband and Bills son all left the organization! The last I heard, she had died, her husband has dementia and is in a nursing home, her son is happily long disassociated and her daughter is married to a Circuit Overseer. The 'back stories' are always the most interesting!

Manufacturing Consent
by StarTrekAngel ini have been pondering over the wt study last sunday.
the title, when i first read it, told me that i was going to hear a lot of the same crap i had to put up with during the 2014 international convention.
while some of it was there, the subliminal message given on the magazine was far from what the title implied to me.

" I would like to introduce you to Brother Slice of Bread. He may look like a slice of bread but he is actually a secretary to a secretary to a helper to one of the Overseers of the Baking Department here at Bethel. You may now break into a chorus of 'Happy at Bethel'. Thank you Brother Slice of Bread." - Ken Flodin (Complete loser in the real world)

What Was The Silliest "Offense" That You Were Counseled For?
by minimus inwhen i was a teenager, i was told by an elder that because i smiled a lot and was known for my good sense of humor, that i should come across as "more serious".
so before i was appointed a ms, while in my late teens, i transformed myself into a much more "serious" brother.. were you ever told that you needed to work on something that you knew was stoopid?.

Two things that I thought were silly:
1. At Bethel when I was a newboy, I left a few scraps of food on my plate. I got an ass chewing from the table head
that I must scrape my plate clean and eat every morsel of food on my plate. My Grandmother would have rolled over in her grave. She taught me that it was bad manners to scrape your plate clean because it made you look like a pig.
2. I had very curly hair and when I was a young Pioneer in the early seventies and I was counseled by the Circuit Overseer. He told me that my hair was too curly and that I should get a haircut, keep it short and use Brylcreem to keep it looking neat.

Ed Kostacheck...........my table 'foot' at Watchtower farms and John Janney was the table 'Head'
Fred Hilmo...boy did he get the shaft. Relegated to cleaning typewriters and graphotype machines at the Farm. As lurker pointed out, he was 'demoted' to doing only menial tasks at the Farm. Nice meek and mild gentleman. Kind of eccentric and still brainwashed in the cults theology. He talked to me once about the 'scientific' CREATION book (Rutherford's wacky tome) and how it was way ahead of its time.
One guy no one seems to mention much is Phil Wilcox. He wound up being the Factory Overseer at Watchtower Farms. At the risk of being demonized by other ex-Bethelites here, I want to say that this guy was like an older brother to me. He knew how I felt about the Organization, it's theology and the 'political bullshit' in general, yet he still respected me and treated me with dignity. I will never have a bad word to say about him. Spending time talking with Phil was one of the real highlights of my time at Bethel.
