How much money people usually donate to WT ?
by Bardamu ini grew up in the org and never got baptised, however i was wondering recently about how much money my family and old friends are wasting in all that.
.
i remember of course never talking in amounts, that it was important to give from what you can not what you have etc but i admit i have no clue how much the average witness gives (say in % of their income).. i'm sure it varies greatly, i'd love to hear what you guys have to say..

The last time I donated was in 1990
Local Congregation: $50.00 to $100.00 per month
Worldwide Work: $50.00 to $100.00 per month
Total: $100.00 to $200.00 per month
There is no accounting for stupidity.

Watchtower alternative fact - JWs were among the first to expose concentration camps
by slimboyfat ini am currently reading the new history of the holocaust by british historian laurence rees and it reminded me of a comment in the awake!
magazine i read years ago and trusted as factual.
i quote both passages without comment.

"In the 1930's the regime made sure the concentration camps were reported in the press, held them up for praise, and proudly let it be known that the men and women in the camps were confined without trial on the orders of the police. ..........................The novelist Christa Wolf indicated some years ago, that anyone in NAZI Germany who wanted to find out about the Gestapo, concentration camps, and the campaigns of discrimination and persecution, need only read the newspapers." - BACKING HITLER: CONSENT AND COERCION IN NAZI GERMANY by Robert Gellately (Introduction)
The NAZI'S didn't need Judge Rutherford to expose (and take credit for such exposure) the detention/concentration camps to the world. The Germans were proud enough of them and quite capable of introducing to the world their 'unique' penal system in their own media.

To add insult to injury..............The April 8, 1936 Golden Age on page 423 cites the Manchester Guardian in a short article:
Done to Death at Dachau
"The Manchester Guardian gives the names of 44 prisoners done to death at Dachau prison camp, Germany."

Do you think I should get something for my wife for her birthday?
by schnell inmy wife is still nominally in, but only because it "makes me (her) happy".
there is nothing academic about her beliefs and when i try, she interprets me as negative.. but then she cusses like a sailor and watches certain movies with me.
her birthday is coming up and it's also right around valentine's day.

Ladies.......what is the perfect gift? - DOC
I am not a lady but allow me to weigh in on this. Young or old........no lady will refuse tasteful jewelry that was picked out by a thoughtful man.
It doesn't need to be overly expensive either.

Make sure the present is something that she absolutely wants. Then make a little game out of it and tease her. Call it an 'anti-birthday' present or a 'non-birthday' present. She won't refuse something that she really wants no matter what day you give it to her. Best of luck and I hope she appreciates your gesture.

Conditional Love
by Saethydd ini've noticed several posts recently claiming that jw friends and family members give out conditional love.
well, i'm not so sure that is entirely accurate, in fact, i would say they tend to be very steadfast in their love.
the issue is this, they have been taught a poor form of love.

I think love should be reclassified primarily as a verb rather than a noun.. If our former JW friends and family really 'loved' us, they would be showing it by their actions. When they say that they still 'love' us, what they are really expressing is their own sentimental reaction to pleasant memories of our former relationship. The so called 'love' in the Jehovah's Witness brotherhood is predicated on conformity not on individuality.

What if Fred Franz had never existed?
by Magnum inwhat if fred franz had never existed?.
those of you who weren’t around in the days when he was the oracle of jwdom or who at least aren’t familiar with the deeper publications he was responsible for probably won’t be able to comprehend the significance of the question.
i believe he influenced jwdom greatly, and the whole feel of jwdom would have been different without him.. during the 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s (not sure about 50’s), he was considered to be almost superhuman by some (a lot?

Perhaps Clayton Woodworth would have 'stepped up to the plate'. After all, he was a 'second string' minor Watchtower theologian that brought us such great works as: THE FINISHED MYSTERY and the THEOCRATIC CALENDAR! As the editor of both CONSOLATION and THE GOLDEN AGE he warned us of the dangers of vaccines and aluminum and continued to protect our health by recommending medical treatment with Electropathy machines! We would have some real 'doozies' now, that the current Governing Body(tm) would have to dig out from underneath. Poor Sam Van Sipma would have spent the rest of his days still cleaning up Woodworth's blunders.

"His loyalty to Jehovah was rewarded." - WATCH TOWER article.
What was his reward? He got his old job back! He received no REWARD but he did obtain justice. This is just one more example of the misuse of language that Watch Tower writers use in order to make things appear different from what they really are.
REWARD: "something that is given in return for good or evil done or received or that is offered or given for some service or attainment". - Merriam Webster Online Dictionary
