hi everyone,.
i am a new poster who is putting off their own personal story of finding this site for a while..... i find alot of people here utterly fascinating, and would like to know..... exactly what is everyones professional field of work?.
i would like to be a full time poster on this forum, but alas, the $$$$ are quite light in that field of work.. apologies if this has been asked before.. just curious.
I have worked for a Symphony Orchestra for the past 10 years doing Marketing and audience development.The Theocratic Ministry School training has come in very handy as I do rather a lot of public speaking to civic and business groups about the orchestra and classical music.But I don't count the time!
I am also doing some voice-over work and hope to soon be working with a publisher to do a series of commercial recordings of poetry readings.

in my very first post i mentioned meeting the above and promised to relate my experiences - such as they are.. actually i have had a nasty chest cold/virus all wk and have not really felt well so please forgive the delay.. the meeting with ewart chitty took place in the virgin islands circa 1980/1981.
i believe he was on an expenses paid trip to the islands,nothing official,and the local cong.persuaded him to give a talk.the brother who introduced him made a big play of having a member of the governing body visiting us but before starting his talk chitty stated that he had recently stepped down as a member of the gb.. he then proceeded to give a run-of-the-mill unremarkale discourse.the next day he spent in field service with us and came to my house for lunch.at lunch he made a statement that left me thunderstruck at the time.. he said,"i don't get to anything like five meetings a week.i havn't for years.
" i remember it with crystal clarity - i can assure everyone that is an exact quote.i remember thinking that if any member of the congregation had said that he/she would have been in line for some serious counseling.yet here was a recent member of the gb saying that he didn't get to all the meetings.he seemed amazed when i told him that i actually made it ok to all of them.. that afternoon i worked with him in field service and was struck by something that seemed to hit me whenever i worked with a so called "bigwig" whether co,do or gb.

the main reason for my reluctance to post has been the fact that my job keeps me pretty busy - however i have enjoyed the board so much i felt i would love to be a more tangible presence and have decided to take the plunge.
i will give more details of my background later.
Heartfelt thanks to all of you for such a warm welcome.I am in Palm Harbor,Florida and have often wondered if there were any other ex JW's in the area.
What made me "wake up"? Well that is a very long story.No one thing but a lot of things along the way.One of the foremost things though was observing first hand the breathtaking arrogance and conceit of elders,CO's and DO's etc.The pure cold-hearted and ruthless ambition for position and preferment in the organization.
That is my abiding memory of serving on elder bodies both in England and in the Caribbean.I observed backstabing and treachery the like of which I have not seen since in my dealings with "worldly" people.Serving on Judicial Committees also opened my eyes to a lot. The unfairness of the whole set up and that men with no ability whatsoever were sitting in judgement of their brothers I found profoundly disturbing.
Well that's for starters. I look forward to sharing with you all in the days ahead.

Thanks everyone.It's nice to be here.To give you a little background:
I was brought up in the org.from the age of about seven.My mother and older sister (but never my father)were JW's and I more or less followed along until age 16 when I was baptized myself.
From then on it was all pretty conventional stuff until eventually being appointed MS and then later elder.I became a Regular Pioneer in 1974.
BTW this mostly took place in the Birmingham area.That's UK not Alabama.
In 1978 I moved to the Caribbean and spent about 8 years there.Had some interesting experiences including meeting Ray Franz shortly before he was ousted from the GB and worked with Ewart Chitty when he visited our cong.This was shortly after he was removed from the GB.An interesting story there for later!
During my time in the islands I left the org.and moved up to Florida where I have been ever since.I do go back to England as often as possible though.
That's it in a nutshell. Sorry - I look nothing like Russell Crowe - with or without my gladiator uniform on!!!
