i was watching a news program the other day, and they were using the idea that abortion has been a huge reason why crime has gone down.
these are the reasons they said.. 1. crime in large cities started decreasing in the 1990's, roughly about 16-18 years after abortion was made legal.. 2. crime is often done by people between the ages of 16-24.
3. abortion drops the rate and number of unwanted children being born to single mothers, or to people who do not care about them.
I read the book 'Freakanomics' that put that idea forward. I'll guarantee that a practising JW could not read that book. It's reasoning and intellectual rigor are beyond reproach. But the kind of inquiring mindset it encourages is anathema to dogma and cultism.
For any of you trying to deprogram yourselves, it's required reading.

after the distastful and depression memorial at the kingdom hall last wednesday night, i guess i just felt the need to go somewhere else this morning for easter so i drove around.......i was going to go to the presbyterian church but the service wasn't untill 11:00am....ditto for the lutheran and united churches too, so i ended up going to the catholic church (of all places!
) because the service started at 9:30am.
never been to a catholic service before, (except for one wedding and one funeral years ago).
Seriously, just stay away from organised religion of any sort. They're all forms of behaviour control that differ in degree but not in kind.

I must say that in my encounters with JWs, particularly males, I found them to be both anti-semitic and homophobic at a sophomoric level.
In fact, they are collectively the most emotionally immature group of people this side of al-quaeda.
after reading greendawn's post, it made me realize that i do more for other people than i do for myself.
i put off buying things for myself and gave up doing certain things when my husband became ill... but, the one thing that i did do for myself and family was get all of us a computer.
having a computer gives me time to relax and roam around on the net doing random stuff.
