Yes, very strange! He is coming with his wife and not an elder. And how come they are trying to contact you through your grandmother and not your wife who goes to the meetings. I guess they are not in the same congregation with your wife. Seems like he has not been assigned to speak to you, but you never know.
Maybe they are just trying to encourage you both or they are having doubts themselves (but then why come to you?) or it might be like bobld suggested.
It will be interesting to find out what they really want.

You said, the nice elder wants to speak to you about your doubts and unanswered questions. And "they" want to speak to your wife who still goes to the meetings.
Who are "they"?
Does the former CO want to speak with you personally or do you know if he wants to take another elder along?
Do they want to speak with both of you together or do they want separate meetings?
Maybe they want to know if you are influencing your wife with apostate thinking and if apostasy is carried into the congregation.

CO visit last Tuesday- Platform announcement
by DeeDubs inwe had the co visit in the cong last week.
he reread the pioneer letter for april at the end of the meeting on tuesday, he basically stated he was looking especially forward to every elders and ms and their families application, and it would be nice to see out of the 150 publishers with the elders and ms and their families "taking the lead" if we could break 100 aux pioneers that month.
you could hear a pin drop...it was a bit strong to say the least.

The CO is just following the instruction he gets from the society. The more people he can "encourage" to pioneer the better it is for his record! That's his main job! Make them do more!!! Very Service Talk can be titeled "DO MORE!"

they made it to the meetings in these terrible conditions.. talk about made up stories!
here is a field service experience that was told at yesterday's public talk which would fall into the made up stories!.

RR, I remember hearing that experience many years ago. Another one was that a pioneer got cornered by watch dogs trained to kill. The moment he said "jehovah" the dogs let off and escorted him to the door. The householder was so amazed he started studying and is now one of our faithful brothers..

I too don't think the wts is very fearful of legal battles. It spends a lot of money to employ the best layers and makes the r&f write many letters to the authorities.

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses lie to recruits?
by jerome infirst let me say this.. i have constantly been hearing of the legendary honesty/intergity of the jehovah's witness for some time now.
i have also been informed that they are the happiest people on the entire earth.. my problem is this:.
when a jehovah's witness comes to your door and you actually decide to give them a few moments of your time they never give the whole story as to what you would be getting involved with when you join the watchtower.. case in point.

Jerome,
I did not read all the posts. In your conversation with the jws you asked about 1975 and DFing. Did they not ask you where you got your information from? I believe most jws would become very suspicious if someone at the door used jw terminology.
I am asking, because I am surprised she actually returned to her visit and came not with an elder, but with her daughter.
I think the biggest lie to new recruits is the love-bombing. Even as a child I knew interested ones are treated differently. Brothers who didn't speak to each other pretended to be the best of friends.
I don't remember the term "theocratic warfare" used during the congregation meetings. The first time I heard it was when my father came back from his first elder schooling and at a pioneer meeting during the CO visit. Due to the indoctrination I think I was ready to use it every time I spoke to outsiders about my religion.
