Welcome to the forum!
It feels good to be able to voice an opinion without recrimination, doesn't it?
my experience is in no way remarkeable but i felt like sharing it anyway.
i was raised a jw.
my mom became one the year i was born.

speaking from my experiance i have seen no less than 10 elderly jw's put into old age care homes and promptly forgotten about!.
no visits from their "loving shepards" no vists from their spritual family.
they were left to rot out of sight out of mind.
You know what is really sad? I'll bet every one of those folks sits and wonders why they have gotten so old in "this system" when for years they were assured it would never happen!
(1) The house to house preaching - as far as I'm aware, they completely blow any other religion out of the water with the extent of the ministry.
Good point!!! Yes, think of how many times the same people went to the same houses with different "new light" on the teaching of generation alone!
(2)In public, they don't curse, don't steal - from a broad viewpoint non-witnesses will often think they are pretty nice people.
In public, most people don't steal. Also, many refrain from cursing. You are right, from broad viewpoint...they look good from the outside.
(3) The general idea that "this is the real truth about God and therefore his entire organization believes exactly the same".
In general, it's because of the fear of being accused of apostacy if you dare to question.
Am I the only one that remembers many of the strong points of the WT? I guess being "in" for over thirty years helps. I know so many......
Darn, I forgot.
If you are married to a person that isn't a Witness, they help you to see that, "It is like kissing a corpse," because your spouse will die at Armageddon.
Oh, here's another one.
Individual Witnesses don't have to do any research. The WTS has done it all for you. In fact, you should not think independently at all. They do that for you, too.
Oh, here's another one. Thanks for helping me to remember.
If a person reads all the Watchtower and Awake magazines, they can get the equivalent of a college education.
I wonder if anyone has ever walked up to a University and asked for their diploma, citing this as their qualification?
They can foretell the future.
One of the governing body recently said at a Convention that in the New System snakes will get "pretty mouth parts," and that "all the continents will come together as one big land mass."
Of course, they also foretold in the WT magazine that the preaching work would be complete by the end of the 20th century. Oh, yeah, they also at one time said that 1914 would be the end of this system, and that young people in the 1960's should face the fact that they'd never grow old in this system.
They also have always been at the cutting edge of medical advancements. They used to believe and teach that vaccinations were like taking pus into the body. They taught that the heart was the literal place of the conscience. They said that organ transplants were like cannibalization, and that the recipient of the transplant could take on the personality of the donor.

THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF DOCTORS ABLE TO DO STUF W/OUT BLOOD
What STUF?....... Obviously, Brooke has read the Awake and Watchtower magazines and feels that she has the equivalent of a college education, and evidently, has gone even further, reading enough 192 page books to believe she has a doctorate degree, also.
well, first off, iam new to the forum here, i registered maybe a week ago???
sometime around there, but anyway, i do have an honest question.
i guess a little background about me might be helpful and if not, at least therapeutic.
Welcome to the forum.
You said: I have been frantically trying to find "the truth", I guess it just doesnt work that way and trying to force it has just been nerve wracking.
I felt the same way when I left the WTS after more than 30 years. I have calmed down now.
I always remember what one wise poster said: "Better to have questions that I can't answer than answers that I can't question."
No, I don't have alot of answers either. I consider myself Christian, because of the wonderful teachings of Jesus. Humans cannot follow him perfectly. I know that. I do wish many would try harder, though.
