New member - my story
by Millions injust a brief introduction, i thought i would try out one of the more established forums, have done some stuff on youtube and other places but thought i would give this a try.. potted history: raised jw by mother, in it for 30 years or so, baptised at age 18, regular pioneer at 20, ms a couple years later, mts at 26 and got assignment to a new cong, elder at around 29, came off pioneering around 31, came off as elder around 32, started to slowly wind down, completely stopped attending about 3 years ago, disassociated dec 2010. pause for breath.. the last 5 years or so have been a painfully gradual process of deconstructing myself and then piecing together fragments of my shattered life that are still valid outside the organisation.
the question 'who am i?
' has been a continual investigation; every day for the first couple of years i would realise another subject or issue that i didn't have my own opinions about.

Welcome.
I certainly agree with you thoughts about not really knowing just who you are and embarking on the discovery of your very own opinions and thoughts, without first looking through the lens of the WTS.

Each little animal companion that we have is special, and individual.
Your dog must have had a wonderful life, being loved so much by your family. Although you will never forget him, time will ease the pain.
Your new little puppy will weave his way into your hearts, and also have a wonderful, happy doggy life.
In my 59 years, I've had wonderful dogs and cats. They don't live a really long life, so I made sure that the life they lived was filled with kindness and joy.

Thanks everyone!
by MrFreeze ini would like to thank all of the posters to this board.
had i not stumbled upon here, i may never have been armed with the courage and information i needed to stand up for myself and leave this religion.. i'd probably still be going to meetings, giving talks on the service meeting, public talks, going out in field service.
i might even have been guilted into going off to mts within the next year... yikes!.

doesn't mean i have to like it though.. honestly, can't you make your point without this kind of infantile name calling?

Sorry, Jookbeard, I didn't see your reply earlier.
Since he was the WT conductor, he was highly visible. While he was going to the doctor for tests, drinking stuff that makes you go to the bathroom, like barium, he could not go to the meetings. Also, when he was first diagnosed with diabetes, it takes awhile to get the correct dosage. His blood sugar would fall, and he didn't feel good. The blood pressure medications made him extremely dizzy until those dosages were regulated. While he was going through all the tests, he truly did not know what was wrong with him, and so could not tell the body of elders, nor could he predict how long it would be until he would be able to regularly take over the WT lessons again.
Obviously, this was too long and drawn out for them. I suppose one should either get well, and stop playing around, or die quickly so as not to cause any disruption in the congregation.
What a show of love, eh?

Welcome. Sorry you were in the hospital.
My husband was an elder for many years. Eventually, as he was getting older, he got diabetes, high blood pressure, and other things. He was the WT overseer.
For awhile, until the new meds were keeping him stable, he could not conduct the WT, and of course, others had to step up to take his place. When he returned, the elders met with him and told him
he did not "handle his illness correctly." I suppose they meant that he should have been ill only on non-meeting nights, and not have been such a bother to others!
Please read of the many life stories of people on this board. You will probably feel lots of sympathy for them as you read of their treatment at the Kingdom Hall. Working your street and not even stopping
by to see how you were was not Christian, nor loving-from an organization that says that love is their identifying mark.

Washtowel Slaveholdery and Field Misery are two of my favourites.
Hilarious! Especially Field Misery, which is what it was to me.
It is interesting that the WTS does not mind using words like "worldlings" or "apostates" or "lawless ones" to describe ones who no longer attend meetings.
I was "in" the Borg for over thirty years and found that indeed, resistance was futile. I tried to wrap my head around the belief that dinosaurs couldn't have eaten meat because they lived before Noah, and of course, since each creative "day" was 7,000 years long, probably died at the flood...in fact one of brochures had the flood picture on the front with a dino suspiciously akin to a T-Rex drowning outside the Ark.
I believed that the dead from Sodom and Gomorrah would/would not have a resurrection depending on the changing whims of the WTS.
I believed that Armageddon would come in 1975 or shortly thereafter..."Stay alive till 75" was the rallying cry of the time.
I believed that the generation that was alive and at an age of understanding would not pass away until Armageddon, then the generation that was alive, then "the contemporaries of the time that do not belive in Jesus' presence", (but not overlapping generations...out before then...ludicrous)
So yes, I laugh at these terms, which beats crying over the years I wasted keeping my parents at a long arm's length until they died, never celebrating birthdays, Christmas, or any holidays with them (or my child) or coming near those times and going to conventions instead of visiting them as I could have.
I cry for all those who are shunned by their families, who endured abuse that was swept under the rug, or didn't get an education.
Those words definitely beat the ones I would like to use in reference to their organization!
