Yes, as long as field service time is adequate and turned in properly, magazine answers are highlighted, and-for an elder at least-if the wrongdoing was three years ago and he has been exemplary since.

Frugal Ideas for a Beautiful but Inexpensive Wedding!
by StAnn inas i've proclaimed so loudly, my oldest son is getting married next year.
we have a small budget (about $5k) and they want a wedding with three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, and a catered reception.
thus far, my son is going to load his ipod with music.

Maybe they could have the wedding at your house. The money could be used to update your yard, paint, etc. Killing two birds with one stone. Outside tents could be used, and catering with two main items for the meal.
Remembet the movie, Father of the Bride?

StAnn,
He just jerked away and pushed my arm down and went off to be with the JWs. Since my dad is not technically a JW,that was uncalled for.
He needs to "get off the fence." Does he realize that if he does not take the plunge, just hanging out and pretending to be a JW makes him bird-food in their eyes? Some might start shunning HIM for this, as has happen to others on this forum. I wonder why he finds shunning so appealing if he is not even a JW? Uncalled for, indeed.

And I was very chuffed to find this board. It has lovely people on it, with a low nutjob quotient. And the nutjobs there are here are endlessly entertaining. ;-)It's great to finally have found a place full of people who understand what it's like to have had your brain hijacked by the Watchtower.
Well, thanks! I, for one, will just take this as a great big complement!!! (even though sometimes I don't know which category I fit into)
Aren't you glad you went to the University and got an education? My daughter is in college now, and doing quite well. I want her to be able to think for herself, and be able to take care of herself, without having to depend on a man. I was "in" for over thirty years!

Why DID the chicken cross the road?
by Pootler in.
sigmund freud: the fact that you are at all concerned that the chicken crossed the road reveals your underlying insecurity.captain james t kirk: to boldly go where no chicken has gone before.charles darwin: chickens, over great periods of time, have been naturally selected in such a way that they are now genetically disposed to cross roads.albert einstein: whether the chicken crossed the road or the road moved beneath the chicken depends upon your frame of reference.colonel sanders: i missed one?the watchtower: ..... .
i know you won't disappoint me.

So I could go (alone) and spend the day talking only to my dad while the rest sit around and ignore me. Fun, fun, fun.
StAnn,
You know, that does change everything. No, no one should have to go to a function and be totally ignored. Why would your father want you to do that?
Perhaps, as others suggested, the two of you could go for lunch. Perhaps he just does not realize the shunning is going on to the extent it is. He's never been the object of it, so maybe doesn't understand?

StAnn,
I thought the bride's family was supposed to pay for the wedding, and the groom's family paid for the rehearsal dinner? (and the groom foots the bill for the honeymoon, of course.)

My dad hasn't spoken to me in about 18 months after we had a fight over the WTS.
My family used to have reunions. Only one cousin was a JW. It was nice to see all my mother and father, and dad's brothers and sisters together, and see the cousins, everyone' kids, etc.
My dad is gone, now. So are all the brothers and sisters except one uncle. He was the baby of the family. No one else gets together anymore, so I haven't seen my cousins in a long time.
If I had the opportunity to see my dad, I would take it. Even if it meant just sitting back and observing. I think your dad is trying to make an overture to you to have some semblance of a family again. Unless you know of really good reasons not to go, I hope you do. I hope you treat everyone with kindness, even if they do not reciprocate. You will have taken the opportunity to see your famiy, and they will see that you are living a good life without the WTS.
This may be an occasion to lose some of the resentment. I hope so.

How wonderful that you have a sister! And then to be so close, too! I am envious....I always wanted a sister...I have one brother (who lives in Alabama), but he's never been a JW, and we are very different. I do visit and call, and we chat for a few minutes, but.....
Also, how wonderful that you are both "on the same page" in regards to the WTS.
