  Convention talks on education?

  yikes...at work next week i will be spending an entire day in a room with a young jw woman.

  (i work at an elementary school and we will be doing photocopying and other assorted things).

  this young woman is a gung-ho witness but she is going to be going to college.

  Thanks Ziddina for your posts. Yes, later than 2005 would be great. I find it hard to believe that this summer they haven't pounded on it again.

  Or maybe I can find a post with a reference to a WT that is more current. I'll check through some past topics.

  climbing a ladder....likened to college...dangerous. However, they don't point out that climbing this ladder will help them to take care of themselves.

  Also, many courses are online.....no big ladder.

  I remember a High School girl in my congregation about twenty-five years ago that got a full scholarship but turned it down to pioneer-a Convention experience, of course. She got married after High School, had two children, and last I heard was divorced after the husband was committing mucho adultery. I wonder how she is now, with no education and having to raise the children on her own.

  Hello there everyone.

  i'm a long time lurker here.. i'm not and never have been a jw, but i am trying to get an understanding of what it means to be disfellowshipped for the sake of someone i know.. my husband and i pastor a small church, we're nothing special, just a group of people who get together to seek god.

  we're open to everyone and people pop in as they want to.

  recently a woman in her early twenties has started turning up.

  Welcome.Thank you for posting.

  You are a wonderful source of help already for this young woman. She needed someone to talk to and you were there to listen to her heartbreaking story. Speaking about her ordeal is the first step...I can't say to healing, because how can one heal when your family turns their backs to you, and literally treat you as if you are dead? Especially one so young, who needs the love of family. But at least a step toward going forward, making some goals, and looking to a better future.

  The Watchtower Society is willing to cruelly make people feel as though they are worthless, even to God. You can see how much sway they hold over people, keeping them captive to their version of Godliness.

  You stated that this person is "lovely," yet they would have her feel that unless she returns to the JWs she is doomed to destruction and has "turned to Satan." This young woman needs to be told that she is valuable...especially to God and Jesus, who died for all.

  Hopefully, the family may soften its position as a bit of time goes by. At any rate, this young woman needs support, and you can provide it by doing what you are...listening. Perhaps in the future, she may want to open up to others. If only more people knew the risks they take when they get involved with this organization and become baptised....the posssible loss of their family and sense of worth.

  Told my Parents about me joining the Military.

  so, i'm back, and many of you wanted me to post the unfolding drama that is my life at the moment.. last week i came out and told my father that i was in the navy, and was going to be trying out for aviation search air rescue.

  it's an extensive rate, and one that has a 40% failure rate among those who qualify.

  so needless to say, i do nothing but run and swim.. anyways, the reaction was what i expected.

  You are doing great...keep it up! Don't worry right now about the family...focus on your goals and give them time to get used to the idea that you are in the military.

  This young woman is a gung-ho witness but she is going to be going to college. I asked her if anyone knew as higher education is frowned upon. She insisted that it wasn't....I said that a new directive stated that any with priviledges could lose them if they encouraged higher ed. and that she should be careful who she told of her plans. She could not get away from me fast enough.

  I am sure that she was one of the first in the door at the summer Convention. Does anyone know of any talks downing higher ed.? I'd like to discuss the issue further with her....if she does not run out the door yelling "Apostate!" first.

  hello all... from the new guy...

  i've been a lurker on this forum and others like it for a while... it's been a great resource for research... i finally decided to join one and found this one to be the best.... born and raised fourth gen. jw... dad's an elder and missionary... we did special needs work when i was a kid... mom was dfed when i was a young teen... usual story for a born in... half family jw half not on both mom and dad's side... we have some high rankers and some annointed in the family tree... brother is @ bethel... i left when i was 18 never baptised never a publisher... just played the role of respectful son until i could fade away as to not jepardize dad's position... a skeptic privately from a young age...blah blah blah.... .

  anyways i'm here mostly just to socialize, debate dogma, learn from others and and give loving support.... 30 yr old dude...as far as my current beliefs i'm what you might call an agnostic theist.... anyways that's enough blabbing for now... just wanted to say hey and give a little intro....

  I choose to believe in God....can one ever be sure? I don't know....I guess that makes me an agnostic Theist.

  Yes, that is the heartbreak. After doing everything you can for the organization, and being "used up" they are willing to throw you out like trash.

  Many of us on this forum have been dealt with in this way. But..now you have the opportunity to make your own goals and go for them. Hopefully your wife will be with you as you look to the future.

  So glad that you were able to maintain good family relations with both parents. Are they still together?

  I have never heard the terms Agnostic Theist or Agnostic Deist.

  What are the meanings and differences?
