I was in 1 congregation (southern Oregon) that got so large they had to split back in the 90's when I was only 7 or 8. Since then there have been 2 new KH's built in the area one being a double hall. The trend I notice was massive amounts of people attending for a bit followed by dwindling attendance. The congregation I was in before learning TTATT a year and a half ago was meeting at one of the double halls built not that long ago. I believe we had around 130 publishers but Thursday was always around 60 to 70 attending if that and it was quite an accomplishment if it hit 100 on Sundays even during CO week.
I think there have been a lot of KH's built that probably weren't needed but it gave an impression of growth that was largely artificial or growth due to children being born. Now the org needs money what better way to get it then pool smaller halls and sell the buildings all while saying how expansive the growth is. Common sense should tell anyone that if they are combining halls growth isn't happening. I know in my lifetime I can only think of less than 10 people that came into the cult through the door to door or any witnessing. And lets just say the majority of them weren't all there mentally, emotionally or other. But I know plenty born ins (including me) that learned TTATT, were df'd and never came back or faded away.
After running the numbers I found out there are more going out than coming in

Two questions for all "apostates"
by sloppyjoe2 indid any of you have a family member or close friend become an apostate first and you shunned them for it only to eventually see the light?
if so, how did your eyes become opened?

Yup one of my best friends became "apostate", started going to other churches, joined the military etc. He tried to reach out to me on Facebook and I told him I couldn't talk to him until he "returned to Jehovah". He told me he never would and he would never be a part of a religion that 'followed men in Brooklyn and not Jesus'. At the time I tried to argue with him we weren't following men or an organization lol.
His words stuck with me for about a year and a half before I started waking up. He planted a seed that grew into full blown doubt. Right after the RNWT came out there was a watchtower article containing the overlapping generation teaching. I remember looking at the article with the explanation and there was not a single scripture sighted and something felt off. I realized I was just trusting a group of men and they weren't using the bible for this teaching so I started to research slowly dipping my toes into 'apostate' sites like jwfacts. Within 4 or 5 months I was pretty sure it was not "the truth" and after getting half way through COC I was 100% convinced.
One of the first things I did was contact my friend and apologize for shunning him and tell him he was right. We no longer live near each other but we keep in touch and if he had never said anything who knows if or when I would have woken up. Fast forward to today and I am free of any religion and am for all intents and purposes a practicing atheist or a 6 on Dawkins scale.

So I decided to do it.
by WasOnceBlind inok, so i went ahead and got a tattoo.
well more than a tattoo, it is a half sleeve.
my parents haven't seen it, thanks to the chilly weather i've been wearing a sweater around them.

The WT doesn't even technically condemn this. I researched this before and while it's frowned on it's technically a conscience matter. I had several elders confirm this including my father at the time. Definitely frowned on though. Like evil evil beards lol -

Confirmation: Shun your dfd family members it's the right choice!
by dgeero infor those that haven't watched the new cult propaganda "what is true love" video from the convention releases there is a small line in the video that confirms the stance is to shun your family members who are df'd despite the official line from the borg being family ties remain only the spiritual relationship changes.
around the 37 minute mark of the video the character john tells liz how not associating with his brother who is dfd was the right choice to make.
i've had my still in family repeatedly deny that the jws teach to shun family despite repeated watchtower articles stating just that.

Funny when the part came about why he spends time with kids and there was that awkward pause I thought of course he does he is just like the rest of the child molesters! -

No I am sorry. The borginization expects you to shun dfd and disassociated family it's "the right choice"! Typical cult garbage portray one thing to the public tell your members another.

Wow..just wow. Indoctrinating children to give them money instead of buying an ice cream? What the actual F**K!?! Just started watching the What is true love video. Forget your dreams dedicate your life to the borginization. Ugh so disgusting. This cult makes me sick. One of my biggest regrets about my teenage years was not playing sports in school. -

What triggered your doubts / awakening?
by Tornintwo ini am sort of new here, used a different username for a while but things got 'difficult' at home so i've since been lurking.... what i would be really interested to know, if you don't mind sharing, is what it was that triggered your doubts and initial research which led to awakening, was it a bad experience, injustice, changed doctrine?
for me, it was seeing mistreatment of young ones in the congregation, they're under so much pressure and as soon as they go even slightly astray they are shunned, either informally (as bad associations which pushes them further into the 'world') or formally - with elders dying to throw the book at them so they even lose their family.... ...then reading about child abuse issues in the press.... ...which led me to silentlambs.
...then jw facts, this forum and coc, wham!

For me it was the overlapping generation watchtower study after the RNWT came out. I remember reading the paragraph and not seeing a single scripture quoted as to why the generation was overlapping "generations". I started googling, came across crisis of conscience etc. I was out mentally half way into it. Haven't been to a meeting in a year and a half though I did attend the memorial. My family and wife know I don't believe any of the BS anymore but my wife is inactive too and no one has reported me to elders for my filthy apostasy yet haha which is surprising given how much I try to share TTATT with them. -

Are the writers in the writing department purposely misquoting people?
by paulmolark inafter reading that great post about the june 1 article on science i got to thinking.
although it is great to believe there is this huge group of guys in the jw writing department that are constantly looking to mislead us by twisting the words of scientist etc... i really think it is more likely they are google researchers that do not have the ability to grasp the thoughts that are being expressed in the scientific article they quote mine from.. i honestly believe the reason that this happens is because of the individuals they use to write these magazines.
these are not college educated men.

It may be a mixture of the two. I think in an effort to find any little shred of evidence to support their wack job theories they resort to misquoting perhaps believing their own delusion so much they don't even realize how intellectually dishonest they are... but I lean more to the idea they know what they are doing and they don't give a damn because the rank and file eat that shiz up. -

Can anyone provide a link to the elders letter regarding the kingdumb hall debt forgiveness? Would love to show this to my family.
I can't believe this broadcast won't wake people up with nagging doubts. I never thought I would see such a blatant request for MORE MONEY!
