George Carlin - Saving the Planet
A longer version of the first video.
saw robert f. kennedy, jr. give a lecture on "it's not easy being green" and "crimes against nature" last night at utc.
he really knows his stuff about what is going on with the environment.
he talked about how the coal mining in west virginia has torn down large mountains because they dump the rocks and soil into the rivers then the mountains are gone.

"The Creator" also saw fit to give humans a non functional L-gulono-gamma-lactone oxidase gene to force us to eat our vegetables and fruit. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) anyone?

it seems the occult origins of the word "watchtower" has been around for a very long time.
did the founders of the watchtower bts choose that banner name to reveal the origins of their spirit guides?.
a watchtower is a spirit guardian of one of the four cardinal points in both ceremonial magic and the neopagan religion of wicca.. alternately, the watchtowers are the abodes of the guardians.. often believed to represent the four elements, the watchtowers are invoked during ritual to cast the magic circle.. in many wicca and witchcraft systems the watchtowers are evocational symbols of spiritual beings known as the watchers or the grigori.
Also, as a side note the tetragrammaton and "adonai" are used in ceremonial magick, much of which is based on the Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism. I have a book on ceremonial magick. The author claims that common pronunciations of the tetragrammaton result from an incorrect understanding of Hebrew. The book is interesting, if not objectively practical. I think simple meditation techniques can accomplish as much if not more in one's life than ceremonial magick. There is nothing in any of this that leads me to believe in the existence of "spirit creatures," angels, gods, or demons, however.

thanks for your help.. /newborn.
Here is one reason which I have not yet seen mentioned:
Why would an omnipotent, omniscient, and "loving" God need to use a primitive method like a flood to destroy the wicked along with the innocent?
I could never quite accept the idea that God would destroy babies and small children along with their parents just because "they would have grown up to be wicked people" as the Society claimed. Such reasoning is in my humble opinion repugnant as is the idea of global extermination of all life. If such a deity were to actually exist, it simply would not be worthy of worship or praise, but would in my mind be ranked along with all the mass murderers of human history.
Fortunately, The Flood never happened. It was a story told round the fire in times when people believed in myths and legends. There may have been countless versions of this popular story passed along as oral tradition. As mentioned by other posters, a number of these stories were written down. Perhaps the writers believed that their versions represented the best of the oral traditions. The version found in the Bible is actually two different stories that were woven together at some point.

my new year's resolution is to make the lifestyle change to the vegan-pure vegetarian diet: no animal derived foods.. it is a change i have considered before on different occasions.
i didn't stick with the diet in the past due to lack of information, or perhaps the abundance of misinformation available on the optimum diet.
i've never been grossly overweight, probably never over 170 lbs.
St. Ann, I envy you! So much fresh food!
I don't think being vegetarian with infrequent animal derived foods will be too difficult for me. I'm single. I cook just for myself. I have so many choices even at a regular supermarket that I can't begin to fathom all the possibilities and combinations.
However, I wonder if some people associate vegan/vegetarian diets with "diets." I know there are people who do this specifically to lose weight. With unrealistic goals and expectations they end up starving themselves, binge on all the forbidden foods and wind up worse off than when they started.

"Furthermore, a little of this vitamin [B-12] goes a long, long way. The body can store it for at least 5 years, maybe longer, so there's virtually always adequate amounts for anyone who occasionally eats meat or dairy products. In fact, there's evidence that vegans who previously ate animal-based food may have vitamin B-12 stores that will not be depleted for 20 to 30 years or more." -Charles R. Attwood, M.D., F.A.A.P.
I am beginning to suspect that this worry about B-12 is another non-issue, just like the myth of adequate dietary protein, designed to make people feel uncomfortable about attempting a pure vegetarian diet.

Thanks for the warning Chris. I have taken sublingual B12 tables before. They taste better than termites.
I am realistic. Everyone dies. Vegetarians, Vegans, Raw Foodists, Fruitarians, they all get sick too. They even get cancer and have heart attacks and strokes.
However, the real danger in my opinion is black and white, all or nothing thinking. Everything exists on a continuum. Nothing taken to extremes is likely to be healthy in the long term. I am setting certain goals for myself that involve a shift in food priorities away from predominantly refined foods and meats to basic foods and plants. I call it Vegan because that is what it most resembles in my view. I will allow myself to indulge from time to time in my old favorite foods. This is not a religion.
There is no perfect diet that works best for everyone. That doesn't mean I shouldn't try to find something that works better for me. It may be a case of two steps forward and one step back, but I'll still call that progress. In the end I will at least speak from experience and not rely on the anecdotes of others.
inkling, I have always had a "sweet tooth." I think Dr. Pepper is about the sweetest soft drink I have tried. Perhaps my sweet tooth has been tempered with age. I have been using a half cup of sugar in a gallon of iced tea. I'm using a very small amount of stevia because it is relatively expensive. I'm using it more as a condiment than a main ingredient. At that level of usage I detect a light sweetness and am not finding any aftertaste at all. It ain't my grandma's iced tea, that's for sure!

it looks like my child is going to be.
what kind of challenges did you experience?
how do i teach guitar to my young disciple?.
I am left handed for many things like writing. If I concentrate I can write with my right hand, but it looks like a young child's handwriting.
However, there are many things I can do "normally" simply because they require both hands, like typing. I am typing this without looking using my left hand on asdf and my right hand on jkl;. I always use my right hand on my trackball.
When I practice my clarinet, I hold it just like everybody else because that is the only way to play it. When I practiced guitar, I held it just like everybody else too.
When I play baseball, I throw with my left and catch with my right, but I bat right handed like most people.

they say we are having the biggest full moon of 2009 tonight..and some can see it tomorrow night.. http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20090109/sc_space/saturdaynightspecialbiggestfullmoonof2009 .
the thing is it will cause hightides and they can trigger earthquakes, especially around areas of water... http://www.livescience.com/environment/041026_tidal_earthquakes.html.
some believe that this will also affect our bodies... http://www.skepdic.com/fullmoon.html.
It is midnight here, so I went out to look at the moon. It is almost directly overhead. The sky even has a faint blue tinge. It would be very easy to see around the neighborhood even if there weren't so many street lights. I just love the tropics.
