I'm new to Tarot. I just got a Hanson-Roberts (similar to Rider-Waite-Smith) Tarot deck last week, and I have been getting familiar with the cards. I also got a book, The Complete Tarot by Teresa Michelsen.
The book suggests doing simple readings to get started. So, I decided to do a card-a-day reading for myself. I write down a question and then say it out loud while shuffling the deck. I then take a card from the top and turn it over.
Last night my question was: "Should I formally disassociate myself from Jehovah’s Witnesses by letter in the month of August?" (Note: I was born in a Witness family and baptised in '83. I'm 38 years old and my sign is Aries. I have not entered my correct birthdate in the profile for this forum. I'm currently about two months into a fade.)
The card I got for this question was the Seven of Cups (not reversed). According to the LWB(Little White Book that comes with the deck), some of the keywords for this card are: Fantasy. Foolish whim. Wishful thinking.
So, what do you Tarot readers out there think?

The JW dress code.....yuck
by JH inthis morning i took a long walk and happened to walk near by a small christian church.
and i could see them come out of the building after their meeting.
they were all dressed differently, some in clean sunday clothes, some in clean jeans, but no one in a suit like the jw's do.

The Watchtower publications show what JWs are supposed to dress like even when they are not at meetings or in service. It's a wonder that the WTS hasn't warned the R&F not to look at their own nakedness in the mirror during bathtime. And even men being baptized need to wear a t-shirt in order to be 'modest'. I, for one, will not wear a tie or socks anymore to a religious service. Yes, I prefer sandals and comfortable clothes, and if a god feels that I'm just not modest enough, then he can come down and fashion clothes out of animal skins for me!

Soundcars are still used for legitimate advertising purposes in Puerto Rico because many areas are densely populated. If the Witnesses were to try it again, they would probably do it in a land like PR that doesn't mind noise pollution all that much.

Thanks Kudra. I have found the Talk Origins site very useful. I did read Darwin's Black Box years ago. His irreducible complexity argument fits perfectly with common sense logic. Common sense tells you that that fly on your cookie is very complex, so it had to have an intelligent designer, right? I know I was taken in by it. But, as the article you posted pointed out, Behe's book didn't bring down the theory of evolution, because those in the know could see through his flawed logic. Creationism isn't science and doesn't follow the scientific method.
Naturally, the WTS fights evolution, because if the creation account is a myth (which it is) then there is no such thing as original sin. If there was no original sin, then there is no need for a ransom sacrifice. So, then, what good is Christianity after all is said and done?

the all knowing god?
by the dreamer dreaming indont know if this has been discussed or not...but.... it always bothered me when people claimed that god is all knowing... what exactly does that really mean or can mean?.
after all, according to all, there was some point when only god existed and so its pretty easy to be all knowing when there is nothing to know.. but why should we assume that a being who had no one teach him and nothing to learn from could be anything but insane?.
we should trust god, some have told me, because he made everything and therefore knows everything about what he made... sorry, but that does not follow at all.. my subconscious, apparently, seems to be able to manifest many dreams of very complex things which leaves me puzzled as to their workings not understanding them at all..... the bible shows god to be less than all knowing on many occasions, especially in genesis 18:20-21 where he is going to investigate a report that has come to him.... from where or who we are not told.... but it makes it clear he is desiring to find out if the report is accurate or not... .

Did you think that you knew more ?
by A Paduan in.
as a jw, were you convinced that you knew more theologically than "those in christendom", yet hadn't really even read the bible ?
more than say, a monk who over a thousand years ago hand wrote one, and read it everyday ?

My mother was a pioneer before I was born back in the late 60's. I always admired her ability to recall and find just the right scripture for whatever point was being discussed. I never quite reached that level even though in the door to door I could give quite a scriptural presentation of JW doctrine straight from the Bible, using the concordance in the back as necessary to place a scripture that was 'in my head'. It was indeed rare to find someone who could hold their own in a discussion, and then only because that particular person must have had the time to argue with us. The usual sticking points involved literal versus figurative interpretations of things like the Rich Man and Lazarus or the Trinity.
I did read the Bible through to the end once. I have read many books several times. When I was bored at the meetings, I would sometimes pick a book and start reading. So, yes, I thought that I did know more than those in Christendom. Interestingly, even though I no longer accept the Bible as the infallible word of a god, I am still reading it and studying it from a secular, historical point of view. I now see the accumulated writings of the WTS as wholy lacking in scolarship, too. A house of cards.

How tolerant are you?
by nicolaou ini was just skimming through lt's intolerance thread and it seemed to me that sometimes tolerance is a terrible thing.
we don't tolerate racism, sexism or abuse and punish it when we can.
we expose and ridicule individuals and corporations if they are found guilty of fraud or deceit because we are intolerant of dishonesty.

I think I am pretty tolerant. I try not to prejudge people by their race, culture, sexual preference, economic background, etc. But, I have a big problem with noise pollution, namely the idiots who drive around in vehicles with the music/bass turned all the way up! No tolerance for that!

I don't know if you ever have, but it is helpful to read a scholarly work of the Documentary Hypothesis of who wrote the Bible. Yahweh Elohim starts out as a god (apparently one of many gods) with very human traits.
As their religion evolved, the priestly factions within the nation of Israel added to, compiled, and edited what later became the Tanakh according to the prevailing political and economic climate of their times.
The religion went through an ethical revolution in the days of King Josiah and later entered the legalistic phase later on after the exile. The clues are all there.
Even the Catholic Church supports such scholarship nowadays. Only Fundamentalist types like JW's reject the D.H. out of hand because it messes with their pet doctrines.
As such, it helps to see that the god of the Bible seems to be a different person in different parts because it is an evolving god, man made.
Of course, the so-called omniscient god was a much later developement. Kinda like Santa Claus.

These are rather obvious lens flare effects. The source is your flash reflecting off of the older woman's glasses. I had a cheap Olympus digital camera that did the same thing all the time. Sorry to disappoint!
