i was just listening to my new nicole c. mullen cd (she rocks!!
) and i had this thought...... i really enjoy christian rock music now, but i had never listened to it as a jw because i wasn't allowed.
so instead i listened to that every uplifting ac/dc, metalica, scorpions (still favorites of mine).. the society did release the "kingdom melodies" on tape though and everyone bought the complete set.....did anyone here ever really enjoy that music?

the past few weeks i have been comnunicating with jw's in my area who attend kh meetings physically but not mentally.
they are "closet apostates" or "double agents".
some are planning to leave the area altogether to avoid the hassles of being shunned.. according to one of these "closet apostates", he believes that 30% if not more of the members in his congregation would leave if it were not for the shunning.
>Write all the letters to editors you want, put up fliers and posters, but don't screw around with religious freedoms. That would be a siippery slope indeed.<
What does religious freedom have to do with shunning? There is nothing in JW bible or any other that says you should shun. Where do you draw the line on religious freedom? Does this mean that polygamy should be legalized because the Mormons practice this? Should brainwashed John Walker go free for fighting with the Taliban?
Bible students are indoctrinated prior to baptism. They are brainwashed to think that DA's and DF's are bad association. They are not free to question shunning. They are physically free to leave but not mentally.
Blindfool, I respect your opinion and point of view and I am not mad that you are expressing your opinions. That's what a democracy is all about.

Dungbeetle,
I was thinking of donating the older publications to the local library but I am afraid they may not keep them. Until I decide what I am going to do with them, I will keep them.
BTW, you brought up a good point about the WT's organized book.

>The biggest bulwark the Society uses to hide behind is the Freedom of Religion clause in the constitution.<
Freedom of Religion and shunning really don't have anything to do with one another. The Society can't justify shunning in the bible. In my own humble opinion, I don't see where the constitution protects this.
As I stated in my original post, non-JW's can't understand the effects of ostracising. Politicians and most of the US population, including myself, have never been JW so to them it seems an unimportant issue.

>The problem is, no one ever forced anyone to become a JW.
We may live in a free country, but with that freedom comes responsibility. We don't need more laws that protect us from our- selves.
Everytime we look to the government to fix our problems, we lose a little more freedom. Think personal responsibility not government intervention.<
How many JW bible studies were told about the shunning policy when they first started studying? When asked about this from non-jw's, JW's usually lie. By the time a new bible study learns of this they are usually already indoctrinated. This is misrepresentation.
Why shouldn't the gov't step in? They stepped in to outlaw brainwashing and deprogramming. If it protects the public why not?

According to one of these "closet apostates", he believes that 30% if not more of the members in his congregation would leave if it were not for the shunning. We are living in a free country, but these people are not free. The U.S. Constitution allows the Watchtower, and other cults to shun. This is a form of mental abuse. Shunning is dangerous resulting in suicide and attempted suicide in many who have been shunned.
While it's difficult to change this loophole in the law, we can do a few things.
1. Everyone should contact their local politicians. The only way to make changes in Government is through them.
2. Educate the public on shunning. Before last year, I never knew what shunning was and never guessed religions practiced this. I am willing to bet 90% of the "worldly" public doesn't know this either. If it got around that the WT tells mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters to disown, or disassociate themselves from family that has exercised their free will to leave the Society, it would be an embarrassment to the Watchtower Society. They're losing many members due to the internet, the last thing they need is more bad press.
Please encourage local media to do stories on shunning.

i belive the watchtower will fall.. maybe not now but in ten or twenty years its really going to be struggling.. it will be obvious to most in a few more years thay armageddon is not coming , 1914 is wrong etc.
"apostate knowledge" will become much more widespread due to the internet.. it is different to other religions in the fact that everyone is looking forward to armageddon in their life time.
it is the driving force for witnesses and will cause it to die.armaggedons no-show will cause bitter disappointment .. those who have left already , and have taken their families with them have stunted future groth as this is mostly made up of children of believers .. people are becoming better educated and more knowledgeable in general.. all the elderly ones will have died, with no link to the past ,and no armaggedon enthusiasm will die out.. this generation of witnesses may be the last.. (then i woke up)or did i?
If the Watchtower Society fell, another cult will be there to take its place.

Dim,
I am trying to help my JW friend out of the organization. He attends the Warminster congregation.
