This is a lie by the Society. Are JW youths "free" to attend other churches? Learn from other pastors, rabbis, yogis and imams? Will JW parents 'freely' allow their children this kind of objective exposure?

Absolutely not.

JW children are only taught limited information and biased propaganda about other religions. Because JW parents have decided that all other religion is false, the kids know only that.

Also the entire premise of paragragh 18 is flawed:

From 1513 B.C.E. to Pentecost 33 C.E., Jehovah had on earth an organized people whom he had chosen to practice his worship and be his witnesses. (Isaiah 43:12) Young Israelites were born into that nation. Since Pentecost, Jehovah has a new "nation" on earth, spiritual Israel, "a people for his name." (1 Peter 2:9, 10; Acts 15:14; Galatians 6:16) The apostle Paul states that Christ has cleansed for himself "a people peculiarly his own, zealous for fine works." (Titus 2:14) You young people are free to determine for yourselves where that people is to be found. Who today make up "the righteous nation that is keeping faithful conduct," living in harmony with Bible principles, acting as faithful Witnesses for Jehovah, and proclaiming his Kingdom as the only hope for humanity? (Isaiah 26:2-4) Look at the churches of Christendom and other religions, and compare their conduct with what the Bible requires of the true servants of God.

This states as fact that Jehovah has an organisation. To the objective questioner (a JW youth) is this necessarily fact?

Is it not be reasonable to question the entire premise of religion, the Bible, even God, in light of alternate views such as evolution?

Yet the Society crams a questionable premise down the throats of their children and limits their knowledge. That is not being "free to determine for yourselves".

I completely disagree with that statement. Islam and Fundamental Christianity are both very hot right now. While Asia and Europe are luke-warm religiously, the North and South Americas, Middle-East and over 1 billion Muslims throughout the world are very religious!

This conflicts with JW predictions that religious fervor is cooling, and many publications published 20+ years ago look rediculous in modern light.

The JW prediction is that Satan would turn the goverments on JWs after "false religion" was destroyed. A major court victory now would confuse that "foregleam" if anything.

For now JWs are happy to repeat their dusty generalisations of "Babylon the Great" and spook like squirrel monkeys in a cage.

One of my favorite points, thank you for the thread.

Animals get sick, grow old, and die. Yet Romans says "the wages of sin is death". JWs use this scripture to prove that humans die because of inherited sin from Adam. Yet with this logic, don't animals also die because of sin?

The Society does not directly answer this, except to put animals in a lower caste. Aside, some JWs theorise that modern animal sickness is related to man's increasing imperfection (e.g. "humans were closer to perfection in Noah's day"), but this does not explain why the Mosaic law had numerous references to lame and sick animal sacrifices if that time period was early on the scope of the human timeline.

Granted, God could have created animals with a limited life span, but why cause the suffering of sickness and age then?

The simple answer, requiring a larger scope then JW/Christian blinders allow, is that all life forms show the same pattern of life cycle (birth > maturity > degredation > death) from cells to stars. It is only our human ego that strains to exempt us from this all pervasive reality--including fanciful concepts of afterlife.

V for Vendetta-similarities in the government and WTBTS?

just saw the movie v for vendetta, about a totalitarian government in the near-future england.

somehow it reminded me of the wtbts, in that whenever something happened, they would have the media "spin" it to cast events in the best light for the government, and the worst for whoever else might be involved.

anyone opposed to the government was automatically a criminal, terrorist, etc.

i just got my mini cooper back from the shop the other day.

it was looking great with all of the damage repaired.......... but then just a few minutes ago i was driving down the highway and something, i don't know what, but something very hard and heavy slammed into my hood ripping three gouges all the way through the stripes and paint and all the way deep into the metal.

Auchmull: You have me laughing. This is an obscure change in JW belief that has no effect on their daily lives. The average JW cannot explain the details behind this change anyway, so don't worry yourself over it.

What did happen is that the Revelation book has numerous references to Jesus judging from 1914, and so had to backpedal by removing scriptural links to this old teaching.

Most JWs will read these instructions and dutifully purge Matthew 25:31-33 and Luke 21:24-26 from their books without futher inquiry.

To give this a sense of perspective, it was annouced at District Conventions that the "river of water of life" mentioned at Revelation 22:1 was now understood to have been "flowing" since 1914, instead of in the Paradise earth future.

That is the new light of 2006.

I don't understand the doctrinal changes you cite (“Judging” effective 1995) Can you clarify that?

This refers to a doctrinal change in 1995. Most know that "the generation" change was made then. But the Society also changed the way they understand the judging of the sheep and goats. Previously the Society taught that Jesus was judging and separating the sheep from the goats since 1914. Then in 1995:

Does this parable apply when Jesus sat down in kingly power in 1914, as we have long understood? Well, Matthew 25:34 does speak of him as King, so the parable logically finds application since Jesus became King in 1914. But what judging did he do soon thereafter? It was not a judging of "all the nations." Rather, he turned his attention to those claiming to make up "the house of God." (1 Peter 4:17) In line with Malachi 3:1-3, Jesus, as Jehovah’s messenger, judicially inspected the anointed Christians remaining on earth. It was also time for judicial sentence on Christendom, who falsely claimed to be "the house of God." (Revelation 17:1, 2; 18:4-8) Yet nothing indicates that at that time, or for that matter since, Jesus sat to judge people of all the nations finally as sheep or goats.

If we analyze Jesus’ activity in the parable, we observe him finally judging all the nations. The parable does not show that such judging would continue over an extended period of many years, as if every person dying during these past decades were judged worthy of everlasting death or everlasting life. It seems that the majority who have died in recent decades have gone to mankind’s common grave. (Revelation 6:8; 20:13) The parable, though, depicts the time when Jesus judges the people of "all the nations" who are then alive and facing the execution of his judicial sentence.

In other words, the parable points to the future when the Son of man will come in his glory. He will sit down to judge people then living. His judgment will be based on what they have manifested themselves to be. At that time "the distinction between a righteous one and a wicked one" will have been clearly established. (Malachi 3:18) The actual pronouncing and executing of judgment will be carried out in a limited time. Jesus will render just decisions based on what has become evident about individuals.—See also 2 Corinthians 5:10.

This means, then, that Jesus’ ‘sitting down on his glorious throne’ for judgment, mentioned at Matthew 25:31, applies to the future point when this powerful King will sit down to pronounce and execute judgment on the nations. Yes, the judgment scene that involves Jesus at Matthew 25:31-33, 46 is comparable to the scene in Daniel chapter 7, where the reigning King, the Ancient of Days, sat down to carry out his role as Judge.
