We know someone grew up in the 1970's...
by greendawn in"if they are well acquainted with the lyrics of the "grease" soundtrack, weren't allowed to see the omen or the excorcist, had a massive video player at home, can't recall using mobile phones, they know who killed jr." and what else?

POLL : Your reaction IF all religion was suddenly banned worldwide
by fish inim interested in hearing what your personal reaction would be if (i say if because probably 99.9% here believe this will never happen) all the religions of the world were to be suddenly banned/shut down/decommissioned/liquidated/dismembered/etc.. by the political powers of the world.
what would your first post here say?
would it change your view of jehovah...of the "org"?

IF all religion was suddenly banned worldwide
The reality of this happening is preposterous.
It would mean a dictitoral world goverment with the authority to somehow extract religion, however deeply embedded, from every culture.
This would immediately result in a equal religious backlash, covert underground revivals, and rebellion of even non-religious sympathizers.
My opinion is that complete religious tolerance is the only thing that can atrophy religion out of existance. Ironic, isn't it.

Elderly JW refused to open her Bible...
by AuldSoul inokay, some of you might have read about my conversation with the elderly lady that was doing street witnessing in conyers, ga. this experience happened this morning ... just looked at the clock, yesterday morning .
i walked out of the local tag office (where we register our vehicles and acquire license plates for the cars) and there sat an elderly lady with current magazines.
being in somewhat of a hurry, i tried to walk a more direct path to my vehicle ... but she thought i was avioding her.

AuldSoul, why do you keep picking on old ladies?
Because they are the only ones doing street work these days. Besides this biddie picked on him...

Say You're a Bethelite & Monitoring JWD - How Would You Feel About THESE??
by Seeker4 ini'm talking about the new posters, like kitten whiskers, who started posting today (hope this works: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/120817/1.ashx).
and it seems like we're getting a few like this nearly every day.
people who were raised jws, really worry that they are doing the right thing in leaving, yet who have been made to feel not good enough by the wts, who felt they never measured up, who struggled with it, but came to realize that what they'd been brought up to believe was just not the truth.. the same stories are told over and over again, and they come from sincere, good people - not whiny, fault-finding apostates like the rest of us riffraff around here!

This is becoming one of the most striking threads I have seen on this site.
I too, maintain an active role as a JW for many reasons...all of those reasons are humans by the way.
I congratulate every new poster who has had the courage to step from the shadows. Each one of them seems to be at a different stage of awakening, yet all are intelligent and careful thinkers.
All this proves to me there are so many more JWs who lurk here without posting. This is as validating for them as it is for me.
How does Bethel feel about this? We know that the internet "threat" is so valid that avoiding chat rooms was listed in the 2006 DC resolution.
I believe that the term "chat rooms" as used by the Society is a purposeful misnomer for their real target: discussion boards like this. But the Society's hands are tied in this information war. Any specific denunciation of JWD and the like would only send the curious here in droves.
The awakening is in full swing.

"Leaving the Truth" The Easy Way
by metatron ini noticed that we have a lot of new lurkers here - and, in particular, some elders who are agonizing over how to get free.
from the watchtower without causing too much damage to themselves.
here are some suggestions that have worked.

I don't know if one can fade now though with the new bookstudy emergency contact list.
Word to the wise: fade from book studies first.
For transistion, try moving to the day-time bookstudy (most congregations have one for older ones that meets at the hall). Claim work schedule issues or whatever applies. Then simply stop going, no need to actually appear at the day-time book study.
