Birthdays not mentioned in the new elder's handbook
by Robert7 ini just noticed this today when i was replying to another thread.
the new elders handbook doesn't even mention the word birthday, even though there's a big detailed chapter on offences requiring a judicial committee.. is it possible that celebrating birthdays is officially, according to the 'law', allowed?
i can see this being the case, where technically you're allowed to, but you would just get judged like crazy..

Consequently, while it is entirely a private matter if Christians choose to take note of their wedding anniversary,
there are good reasons why mature Christians abstain from celebrating birthdays.

Why Jehovah's Witnesses Are Discouraged From Using the Internet
by AllTimeJeff inat a recent series of circuit assemblies, the governing body put out warnings on what in their view is the latest danger from satan, designed to break the faith of jehovah's witnesses everywhere.. facebook.. yes, thats right, apparantly, the gb is concerned because a lot of people are having "facebook sex".
they are meeting old friends who aren't jehovah's witnesses and getting it on with whomever would willingly sleep with them.
evidentally, the gb would like their flock to believe that when jw's get on facebook and other social networking sites, fornication happens.. now, this is news.

"In recent years, technology has sparked a revolution that has had a profound effect on youths. For example, in many lands the cell phone and the computer have become a lifeline of the adolescent social world. Social networking sites have opened up a whole new world of possibilities. “You can be relatively friendless in real life and then suddenly have hundreds of friends online,” says a 19-year-old girl in Australia."
http://www.watchtower.org/e/200810/article_02.htm
“A social networking site is like an online party,” says a girl named Joanna. “Some very scary people can show up.” The personal information posted on social networks can be exploited by unscrupulous youths and adults. Thus, Internet safety expert Parry Aftab calls such sites “one stop shopping for sexual predators.”

I listened to the meeting over the phone with my grandmother. This religion is nuts!!
by miseryloveselders inmy grandmother has been a little ill, and had to be put in a facility temporarily.
she should be getting out sometime next week.
i'm not particularly close with her, and that probably has a lot to do with my father.

It sure looks good.
Should be in the front garden, not indoors! Where the passing JW's could appreciate your work!

I have this experience every Thursday evening;
My wife won't drive in the dark so has the meetings by telephone.
It is an experience everyone should have, it is like listening to a load of Zombies.
With the recent snowfall I have had to put up with two extra Sunday meetings as well.
This religion certainly is 'NUTS'!

"I need to do more Bible study"
by sabastious ini had a conversation with my brother a while back and i was venting about my frustrations about the watchtower.. after some heated discussion my brother told me that "he needed to do more bible study because he felt weak.".
i bit my tongue because i felt this to be a little comical.. this is something that witnesses are taught to do.
if they start to question the doctrine they are programmed to seek further indoctrination.. the interesting thing about my brother's statement was he used the buzz word "study.".
