I've always wondered, what does it take to be 'selected' to be an elder?
Obviously, some of you were elders. What would you say? What were they looking for when they made decisions to fill this position?

what if.... * ...you wanted to create a system that would 'oversee' certain criminal types to allow them to do the societally beneficial things they're capable of (holding down a job, contributing to the gdp and perhaps providing food and/or shelter for offspring and/or spouses) while keeping them off the tax roles, either as welfare recipients or expensive 'residents' of the criminal justice system.
* ...you also wanted, without the expense of locking them up, to somehow keep them 'to themselves', away from society in general, so they couldn't do harm to the 'average guy'.. would you do much different than what the wts has been doing for the last many years?.
WHO would have an interest in covering up for pedophiles? The only people I can think of are....other pedophiles.
Does anything else make sense to ANYONE out there?

this is a sign we should make up and hang on doors in our neighborhoods.. .
just a idea.

To protect yourselves, I would not use the words, 'This organization harbors...' or 'covers up...'. At this point, that is not a fact proven in a court of law.
It would be more accurate (and thus legally 'safe') to say, 'this organization is suspected of harboring....covering up....' Or 'investigative reporters from the BBC, NBC and others suspect they are harboring...or covering up....' or that they are facing lawsuits charging that they harbor and/or coverup, etc. etc.
When you state, in writing, that they ARE doing something, you leave yourself open to legal accusations of slander and such.
To use one of their own quotes, 'Don't get yourself in a jam'. You get the idea.
From a legal point of view, at this point in time, even the things you and I and everyone KNOWS are true, are right now, only 'alleged'. To state otherwise leaves you open to accusations of slander. (Real slander, not the JW kind). And you KNOW they would LOVE the chance to jump at something like that.
Including a website or other resource for further information is an EXCELLENT idea.
I wish you success with this.

first, you need to identify some outward signs of mental illness and then find ways to encourage their manifestation.
paranoia: remember, you live in a world controlled by the devil and.
his demons.
Go to google.com and look up Dr. Jerry Bergman. He is an exjw and a mental health professional who has written extensively on the mental health problems of JWs and how their 'religion' creates and/or enhances their problems.
You'll learn a lot. Your intuitions are exactly right.

what's the most outrageous thing that you were personally told ,while in the organization??
?
Regarding 'can't find her keys'....
This brings to mind a young teenage man I once knew who got the biggest kick out of breaking into people's houses, not to steal anything, but just to 'rearrange things'.
REALLY. He would just sneak in and move the furniture around, or the things in the refrigerator, or WHATEVER.
Can you imagine what this would do to a JW???
At the time I heard this, I thought it was HILARIOUS (tho strange...).
Must be the JW background. (Mine, not his - I don't know what his excuse was).
Please keep this post going....I'm enjoying it immensely.

Hi C.,
I thought I posted this already, but perhaps not. Go to google.com and look up Dr. Jerry Bergman. He has a history of helping many elders of JWs.
Best wishes.

"...imagine the amount of letters, reports..."
If we are to believe that they received a lot of protests about the two-witness policy as it relates to child abuse, then we must believe, I think, one of two things:
Either they:
1) Felt 'locked in' by the 'laws' of the Bible - that they had no choice, they MUST do things this way (this is really hard to imagine, given the many, many places in the Bible where it instructs us to care for women and children, the innocent, the downtrodden, etc., etc., etc. Really, it would seem they had to go through an inordinate amount of trouble to find an excuse to CREATE this policy and then to keep it.
2) They have a personal interest in the policy. It serves them in some way.
religion.
catholics seek a voice in church's response to scandals.
meeting: lay members gather to demand greater openness from leaders and more decision-making power.. .
There is much to learn from Catholics.
Like how to love your faith AND be true to God AND respect your concience AND expect justice.
God bless them for setting an example.
