muslim rebels in the southern philippines have beheaded two christian hostages, part of a group of jehovah's witnesses seized on tuesday.
the two severed heads were found by the philippines military on the remote southern island of jolo.
the army chief on jolo, brigadier general romeo tolentino, said that a note was attached to one of the heads, saying: "those who do not believe in allah will suffer the same fate.

The ironic thing is that Allah is the same God as we all know Him.
He is the God of Abraham, the God of the Old Testament, God the Father, of most Christian religions.
JWs, with their lack of seeing a real difference with the coming of Christ and their ever interest in SOME things in the Old Testament, probably come closer to speaking of 'Allah' than many faiths.
Small exception, of course, being that they worship the WTS more than any God they ever knew.
i have now read the section that deals with me.
all i can say is i am amazed!!!
don't my critics have any concern about the facts???
:-)
I'm thrilled that this discussion is taking place.
For what it's worth, a friend in the mental health field recently informed me that people who are attracted to cults most often have in common, a combination of the following psychological personalities/disorders (there's a lot of room for variation in the term 'psych disorder'):
Dependent Personality
Avoidant Personality
Obsessive Compulsive Personality

Strangely - and sadly - the Philippines are VERY high up on the list of places where JWs are actually growing. I have no idea why.
The problem now is the four? remaining hostages.
I find it very sad that so many soldiers and other military people must now risk their lives to protect a group of people - who should never have been their in the first place - who have absolutely zero respect for those who will be risking their lives for their safety.

philippine rebels seize hostages.
What's really, really sad about this is that our guys are over there and many, many soldiers from various places will face the possibility of dying to protect this group who has no respect whatsoever for them, for us, for the nations involved, for the 'causes' involved or for the trouble they have caused and will probably continue causing as this moves forward.
On the bright side, if you ever wanted to make a kidnapper miserable, leaving them stuck with a handful of self-righeous JWs is about the best you can do. Muslims REALLY don't like JWs. Even reasonable, ordinary Muslims.
(Please note that Avon has also disavowed them. Probably just marching to their own little tune, as usual. And everybody else is supposed to pay for it)
a friend of mine said that jw's paid tithing.
i've never heard it mentioned on this board - is this true, and if so is there a set amount?
it's biblical so i would expect the jw to say something about it.
Yet, they are very, very rich.
Where's it coming from? How many people actually placed magazines and received donations? How much?
Any guesses? What do you remember?
I'm impressed by the woman here who said she was no good at placing magazines, but she just said she did and filled out the slip and then just gave them her own cash to cover them.
I wonder how common that is? Lord knows, they DO know how to induce GUILT!
every week i go in and tell my therapist these fantastic stories about the religion i was raised in!
i think he believes me, but then when i think about it, it sounds too fantastic to be true.
he must think i'm absolutely insane.
I am loving this article, "Paradise postponed..and postponed". I hope you find something useful here. The first part is a summation of other studies, but the rest of it, under, 'Why are the problems so great?' is really helpful for an exjw to consider the dynamics of their former world.
Hope it helps.
for example i might be at work discussing something with colleagues and then come out with an illustration...'its just like...etc.
' they then look at each other thinking what on earth am i on about.
but when i was a dub illustrations were cool!
Metaphors are cool.
HOWEVER, people who suffer from panic attacks are prone to metaphorical thinking. Just an observation.
this old chap is quite sweet really, and i wasn't going to say anything much.i studied with him and his daughter and they are neighbours, but there was just us two in my house (!
) and it all came pouring out.i get sick of the 'when are you coming back'...'what else is there'... where else would you go' questions, and i don't even know what started it, it was a bit of a blur, i went on for at least an hour and 'brought out the following points'.
have you had your new blood card yet?
'Where else would you go?', 'What else is there?'
Their sweeping cynicism toward the entire world and everyone else's desire to commune with God (all of God's 'other' children) is earth shattering. (Or just shattering).
Have a look at this site. Once you get past the first two pages (the study summaries), there are some really excellent observations about JWs. (Start with the section on 'why are problems so great?')
It ignited some compassion in me for them.
If your friend is smart, he won't report you. He will just quietly keep it under his hat. Afterall, you are his neighbor. And he MIGHT be thinking.
You could impress him with your ability to foretell the future by letting him know that if he tries to check out the things you mentioned, they will probably want to kick you out. And if he persists in looking for a straight, reasonable answer, they will kick him out, too.
i have not been to this sight in months.
i come back and its a complete mess.
this jw-whoever guy, has a right to speak his mind.
You didn't experience how disruptive and annoying it was because, as you said, you weren't here.
Thanks Simon. I thought you gave ample warning for the person to check himself.
What's 'so simple' for most people out here to do can be quite confusing and bothersome for a new person to figure out. And it can ruin their ability and desire to see this forum as a place for serious discussions where they will not be subjected to ridicule or harrassment for their comments.
Especially since many of those comments can be rather personal and difficult.
