I have learned so much here, an incredible amount of information, and have also found this site to be invaluable for staying aware of what the WTS is up to and one step ahead.
I lurked here for years before actually posting, but once I did start participating it was like an outlet that helped me not feel so alone. I am an UBM, and in my real life I've NO ONE who understands any of this -- of course I can't discuss this stuff with believing Witnesses, and the "worldly" people in my life don't understand how deep and twisted it all is. Here, I have been able to be amongst people who do understand, and that has lifted a huge weight from me and also helped me hold onto my sanity LOL.
The combination of the information and the people here has been a remarkable experience that has changed my life. I'll always be grateful for it.

What About JWD Has Been Special To You???
by minimus inwhen i was exiting, i would read this board and i learned a lot.
there were tons of people that were realizing the truth about the organization.
i had already read critical books about jws but this site was a daily, regular "spiritual feeding".

Gag alert! Latest email from devout JW Mom
by bud2114 inmy mother knows i have lots of issues with the org.
yet she still forwards me this crap as "encouragement".
i love my mother, but i wish i could get through to her that jw's aren't any more special to god than anyone else.

This email offers a very poor analogy. Maybe it seems "encouraging" to people who skim and gloss and keep their brains on standby, but if you actually read it and think about it, it makes no sense. Why am I not surprised.

Teacher sexually assulted me...........what do you think
by Jesika inin your opinon......................should i go through with it..................................(hi simon.....long time).
on august 4th of 2008 at approximately 8:00-8:10am i was coming from the front office after receiving a green sheet for being absent on thursday, july 31st 2008. i was passing the women's restroom on my way back to class, when i saw steve walking the barren hallways.
he didn't notice me since i was walking far behind him.

Please report this, immediately. I'd be willing to bet you are far from the first person he's done this to, and you won't be the last if he's permitted to continue. If the women he assaulted before you had spoken up, this creep might not have had the opportunity to do it to you. At the very least, reporting it affixes a tangible and undeniable paper trail to this guy, assuming he doesn't have one already.
Also, I must say, good for you the way you reacted -- firmly striking back and getting away. And MAJOR kudos for thoroughly documenting what happened, with times/dates/locations/details/etc, right away. That matters a lot and solidifies your complaint.
Please do report it. You'll not only be helping others avoid this same sort of assault in the future, but you will also (I suspect) feel more settled about it in your own mind -- your initial reaction was to say HECK NO and stand up to this loser. Keep doing that; you won't regret it in your own heart.
I'm sorry this happened to you. -

I am in a somewhat similar situation, although I have no children. As has been suggested, acquire and read "Combatting Cult Mind Control" -- that book helped me in so many ways. The natural, instinctual reaction to come at things directly can actually be the exact WRONG thing to do with a believing JW. All you accomplish there is bringing out the cult personality more and more, keeping the person on the defensive; it can really backfire very badly (voice of experience here LOL). Since reading that book and others (and doing a ton of research over a period of years), my situation has improved greatly from where it was, but there's still a long way to go.
If you learn the subtler and more effective ways of getting your wife to think, you have a much better chance of getting her to wake up, especially since she's not particularly diehard and rabid right now. The diehard rabidness comes out when you confront directly. Logic doesn't work with JWs, at least not while their minds are still firmly entrenched.
The fact that you have a child makes things more delicate for you. In your shoes, I would do everything I could to ensure safety for the child above all else -- the last thing you want is to end up with your wife estranging your daughter from you and raising her in the WTS.
I hope things work out for you and your family. The best advice I can give is to research thoroughly, understand the mindset and how to best approach (and not approach) it, and then act carefully and slowly, as opposed to rashly and quickly. Best wishes to you. -

I like watching death.............
by zeroday ini will not provide links but i love death videos....just google death videos...they are aplenty...i believe they are my final exit in some way...many have died and i will also but they have already died and i am alive....don't bother i know i am sick............

I don't think that curiosity itself about death is sick, but yeah. I'd guess that most people who have witnessed actual death in person have no desire to see more of it, in videos or anywhere else. That is certainly true for myself. I'm still not sure what these "death videos" are exactly, and I don't want to know. Maybe Zeroday has never witnessed such himself in his own life, and so has had a curiosity about it; it is hard to know exactly from just the one post what he really means and feels about it. I would venture to say, though, that anyone who "loves" death has never had any genuine first-hand experience with it.

Same answer as karvel. Your site is a remarkable resource, and when my JW is ready to look at such material your Web site is going to be the first resource I share with him.

Zeroday, what do you mean by "death videos"? I don't want to Google it. I'm not sure if you mean violent gruesome death, or peaceful passings, or what -- it's hard to comment without knowing more of what you mean. In any case, like Hortensia I have witnessed death in person on numerous occasions, and have been surprised by how calm and peaceful it has been. I've never witnessed a violent death though, and don't want to.
Have you ever witnessed death first-hand, or only through these videos? I don't think it's sick to be interested in and curious about the idea of dying itself, but I'm not sure if that's what you're saying or if you're saying that you're fascinated by violent death, which to me is a different matter entirely. -

What was said about Earth, Wind and Fire?
by Vachi 8 He Is ini remember being in my dub uncles friends car when e,w & f came on and he goes "don't let your unc know you heard this song".
i didn't ask why at the time, but then some years later i hear again that dubs have something against e, w & f. (not that they don't have something against anyone who isn't one of them) but what went on between the two groups?

I believe there was a JW rumor (AKA urban legend) that Earth Wind & Fire asked all JWs to leave during a concert, because their presence was interfering with their channeling of demons or some such. I have heard this same story about John Denver and Don Ho.
So yeah, take that for what it's worth LOL. -

Reading Steve Hassan's Book. WOW!
by White Dove inhassan's book is helping me so much in letting go and not being affraid of being found out by the jw's here in "greenland.
" .
what amazing information about how the jw's compare to other high control groups and cults.. he hasn't even mentioned the jw's, so far.. it is helping me so much in gaining my confidence and not worrying about what jw's preach about the end of the world, and such.. i love this book!.

I too found "Combatting Cult Mind Control" to be brilliant and insightful in ways I didn't expect. Coming at it from the perspective of a non-JW trying to help a JW, it was especially helpful to me because it explained exactly WHY so many of the initial knee-jerk reactions are wrong, and what to do instead. This book gave me insights I've not found anywhere else, and helped me learn how to approach things effectively rather than just instinctively (in the case of JWs, the two are often at odds!).
I'm glad you're reading it and finding from it the commonalities amongst cults in general. That must be incredibly freeing and enlightening for one who has suffered a JW life, to learn that it's not unique to JWs but rather is a mindf*ck that has hurt and ensnared others in all kinds of different contexts. Man behind the curtain indeed, that's all the WTS is and they're not even special or unique about it.
