Somehow I remember this from childhood. I seem to remember an Awake article "Disco-Is it for You?" Then I remember my mother and aunt talking about the magazine saying something about the beats being of some ancient Druid origin or something like that. Just more jdub nonsense.

Like I said, I believe the WT. is sponsoring their being here to provide disinformation.
I dunno. But I tend to think the WT is too naive to understand the wealth of collective knowledge we have at this site, which could also be used to argue why they may be trying to use this method. They probably vastly underestimate the apostate's ability to present the facts, hence assuming that some bethel "wiz kid" could handle it. It probably wouldn't happen if Franz, (Fred), was still around, as most of the doctrine was his anyway, and he would probably fear the facts comming out.

"do learn from negative people, is to lower yourself to their thinking and to learn from their vast years of mediocrity".
with that said, i think it pays sometimes to reflect on who we listen too in our life, and more important, who we strive to please and be life.
The key is to learn from them rather than wallowing in them.
Precisely. Something almost impossible for most jws, and perhaps one of my biggest gripes when I was the org. I just could not get the "persecution complex" that so many seemed to have.

hello all, been lurking a few weeks, decided to post..... i am mid 20's, male, unbaptised, 3rd generation, elder family etc.
a number of years ago, in the name of intellectual honesty, i decided to research religions to make an informed choice before being baptised as a jw.... there was not enough time (and i was too uninterested) to look at other religions seriously, so i figured if jw is the "truth" then it should be able to stand any criticism.. is it just me or is it all a load of old bollocks?!.

The JW mindset teaches its members that such negativity is actually positive to such an extent that they dont even realise how negative they actually are; they are taught to soak up as much negativity as they possibly can (earthquakes, pestilence, people being faint out of fear blah bloody blah) in order to appreciate 'Jehovahs' so called blessings. Its no wonder so many suffer from depression as a result of being a witness.

so, i was happy and celebrating because of getting good grades in my courses, well i get a call from my mom.
at first the phone call was just "hi, how are you" then she laid into me saying my "problem" (meaning my divorce) was because i was putting my education first and not jah.
she goes on to tell me that the "talk today" was about people murmuring as israelites and bad things happened to them.
I would not DA myself just yet. As was stated, you will likely be exchanging one set of problems for another, that may last much longer, (perhaps permanently). Relatives do tend to calm down after given some time. I don't know how long this has been going on, but try to be the bigger person and gut it out if you can. OTOH, if we are talking about an abusive situation here, you need to draw the line in the sand, and take whatever measures are necessary to stay healthy.
