OTOH, to Gary's comment, I would agree that no other organization teaches eliteism they way the society does. They ARE the most judgemental people in the world, when it comes to matters of "morality", and religious choice.

In fairness, the society did a pretty good job of teaching acceptance of different races and cultures. Better than most groups, honestly. This is one area where you can't blame the organization for individual's failings.

if you are a loyal, zealous witness, please listen to me.. i'm going to tell you straight from my heart, right out of.
my hard-won personal experience, how to avoid unhappiness.. here it is:.
don't bet on games you can't win.. let me illustrate.
Somehow, I knew this was an old thread based on those IT job statistics. The glory days of the late '90s-early 2000's, (in IT), are certainly over. However, I remain employed. It's just a lot harder to move around now, (I been with the same company for the last 7 years).

It certainly made it easier to leave. I never knew most of any of the truth, about "the truth", before reading about these things on the internet.

i am new here and have been "lurking" for several months.
the discussions have helped me tremendously to break free from the society.
i want to thank you all for your help and heartfelt posts.
Welcome, Kitten Whiskers!

for the two xmas's we have been 'out', wifey and i have celebrated christmas quietly with the grandkids and a few family.
although we have had a tree - somewhat hidden from view inside - we have not ever put a light or decoration outside.
this week i proposed to wifey that i light the large conifer in the back yard this season.
Go for it! I know I plan to this year.

muslims daily, in the arab world, call for the death to christians and the americans.
even looking at some muslim websites, you will see jesus shown to be evil and the christian faith to be a terrible group of people.
so with this, why does minor comments on them and cartoons about their founder make them so extreme?
I, too, has Muslim friends at college - and they couldn't do enough for me. Those I associated with were never of the stand-offish type.
Yes, I didn't mean to imply that they were not good friends, they certainly were, and one of them, (that I still have some contact with), still is. However, what I meant by "standoffish" is, much like the jws, they know that there are certain things their religion teaches that most non-Muslims wouldn't agree with, to say the least. When it comes to those areas, most Muslims are silent, when dealing with non-Muslims. We did much of the same when we were jws. Those individual Muslims themselves may not agree in their hearts with what their religion teaches, (just as there were certain elements of the jw faith that we didn't agree with), but nevertheless, when some issue comes to a head, (such as a df'd family member or good friend), a faithful jw will reluctantly comply with the rules. A faithful Muslim, cannot denounce what the "fanatical" Muslims do, because they know their religion teaches these things, to some degree.

The Nazis who murdered 6 million Jews were largely made up of Roman Catholics and Protestants.
Yes, Ian. But not in THE NAME of thier religion. What the Muslim world is presently doing, (and has done to a lesser extent over the last 5 decades), is clearly being done FOR RELIGIOUS reasons. There has ALWAYS been an innate intolerance within Islam for non-Muslims. I had Muslim friends in both high school and college, and there was always somewhat of a standoff-ish side to them. One could only get to know them so well. I strongly believe we have justifiable cause to be concerned about this situation.

thirdwitness,.
my father, who sat on his first judicial committee when he was 17 and has been and "elder" ever since, couldn't provide scriptures to support some very basic teachings of jehovah's witnesses.
our current circuit overseer could not either.
As much as we would like to see 3W attempt to make an argument, he won't. He seems to have an agenda of using a few specific topics that he can make some type of interperative argument for. This fits in with the theory that he may be some Bethel insider attempting to "disprove" certain ex-jw "themes", (such as the UN and 607), if you will. Obviously, he can never prove any jw dogma, as it is IMPOSSIBLE to do so. One just has to be assimulated to accept it. I, for one, don't necessarily believe he is some Bethel insider, (just not their way of doing things, and they can't be THAT ignorant to think they can somehow win those type of arguments), but IF he is, I would suspect he will go away shortly, as his attempts to justify the WT position have utterly failed.
