I worked on that building back in '93 or so when I did the RBC thing. There was rumor that an electric chair was found in the basement, but that could be just another jw urban legend. My sister went to one of the Paterson congs there, and was also married there in '99. It seems the jws didn't keep it long, but supposedly they sold it for $5 million.

The concept of something bigger than ourselves that can take care of us, or demand retribution for unsociable conduct, permitted mankind to venture far from his cave and aspire to something greater.
Before you dismiss that thought, consider this: we are where we are because we have been where we have been. It couldn't have been any other way. The results would have been vastly different from what we see around us. Do you genuinely think we could have got to this level of complexity without the intermediary stages?

I agree that the speed of acceptance, (if you want to call it that), doesen't mean anything in itself. But a study of just how different the Roman world was, as opposed to Christian philosphy, is quite stark. Why did the people choose to believe this? Could it have been because much of the basic philosophy, (outside of the "miracles", resurrection, etc), actually made some sense to these people? I dunno. But just because certain emperical evidence dosen't appear to exist, in support of a living "Jesus", dosen't disqualify the fact that something significant happend during this time. What was that? If anyone knows, I like to hear it. (No challenge here, just looking for information).

The hostility was not meant I am bored today nothing to do I thought by coming across frankly it would make you want to prove the ASS HOLE in cyberland wrong. When I first started coming to this board I believed in the bible and everything in it. I would argue with the posters, with in a few months JWD posters proved me wrong about creation and the bible. Then they took my Jesus away from me. I was mad for a while. I now I feel so free it is very nice too feel free from the overwhelming pressure that the GOD of the bible gives you.

Why the hostility, may I ask? If you read my following posts, maybe you would get the point. But since, because maybe I just wasn't clear enough for you, I'll clear it up. I don't necessarily believe he DID exist. But rational arguments, appear to go both ways. True, little secular information, aside from the highly questionable Josephus writings provide any mention of the man. This is well known. However, it does NOT account for this movement of Christianity, arising at a time, and taking people out of many different belief systems, and suddendly becoming willing to die for this cause. Why is that??? This is why many historians can't conclusively agree that the man did not exist. Best assumptions seem to be that some man named "Jesus" did, not neccesarily in the first century, but perhaps long before that, exist. As time went on, combined with the opression of the Roman system over the Jews, as well as the oppression of the Jewish system, itself, people decided to "take" to this belief system. That may be, but it sounds like a lot to happen within a century.

I don't need a year, I've been researching this for some time, btw. I don't claim to be Christian in the absolute sense, so I have no bias in terms of what to believe. I just want straight, (non dogmatic, of which Zeroday's was quite), answers.
