  Nicest thing a JW has ever done?

  here is a change of pace, what was the nicest thing a jw has ever done for you or you have seen done?

  I have mentioned this many times before. I have two dear JW friends that I owe both my education and career to. I would pay them back with anything they needed if it ever comes to it, even though I am still shunned by one of them. That one even allowed me to live in her house during a difficult period with my parents, when I started college. I will never forget that. I view them as better people than any family I ever had growing up, JW or not.
  

  Were it not for the way the organization dehumanizes beautiful people like the ones I mention above, I would not be on this site still. While I would love to see the WT crash and burn, all I really want is those folks mentioned above, out.

  Contrary to News Reports the ZEAL is Still There

  zeal has always been a valued word in the jw arsenal.

  even if you don't see it in your own local congregation, you keep hearing about it.

  "zeal this" and "zeal that".

  Ugh... I hate that word. It's as old fashioned as "vigor & vim."

  Actually, in almost all other contexts I can think of, "zeal" has a negative connotation, almost always associated with extremism.

  Only in the backwards world of WT could "zeal" be a good thing.

  the last article in this new wt, shows me that the organization is dealing with much information that is damaging them.

  i am sure that the many recent lawsuits are being noticed by the r&f.. here are some gems from that article, titled the naive person believes every word.

  we must be very selective about what we consider worthy of our attention.

  And what should you do if you find slanderous news about Jehovah’s organization on the Internet? Such material should be firmly rejected...

  What I clearly see in that statement is surrender. It used to be that the organization would dance around this subject, talking about the dangers of the internet, (usually with a reference to porn, almost never about apostasy directly). However, now it seems they are tacitly admitting that JWs see the critical information, because they know finding it is unavoidable. This is good news.

  For you lurkers, get off the Titanic while you still can.

  What are you up to this summer?

  i really enjoy hearing about other people's lives.

  feeling a little lonely this evening so please tell me if you have plans for the summer months.

  i may go to some outdoor theatre with my daughter who's home from uni; with a picnic and a bottle of wine.

  How do you manage to keep JW friendships after you left the organization?

  it seems incredibly difficult.

  those who leave the org.

  (or fade) no longer have anything in common with jehovah's witnesses, nor do they want to stick around to get radiated by the fear and guilt that saturates every aspect of a witnesses' life.. i've lost all but one of my jw friends quite simply because i can no longer condone the evil things that they condone.

  A true friend is someone you can be your honest self with. If you try to be that true self after you leave JW, you will find out those friendships are conditional. It can be a hard pill to swallow.

  FWIW, I still consider some JW true friends, however those relationships are dormant at the moment because I will not compromise my self honesty. If they ever leave themselves someday, they will thank me for that.

  What are the current rules about vaping from the GB?

  not even tobacco inhaling but inhaling other stuff like herbs etc.

  Nicotine is super addictive when inhaled directly into the lungs, vape or smoke. Not the smartest thing to do, carcinogens or not. I would hardly call it safe.

  I don't see anything unsafe about MJ vape. Actually, there is very little unsafe about MJ smoking when used in moderation for that matter, but that is another discussion, and probably one I should not be typing about while at work.

  Don't ever expect the GB to be anything more than reactionary to this type of thing. They are always going to default to what provides the cleanest "appearance", and nothing more. Don't hold your breath...(pun intended).

  Hot topic in congregations: having a beard/goatee

  i am starting this topic because i was wondering, i see many who leave "the truth" are glad because they can finally have a beard.

  is having a beard really a no go in congregations?

  how is / was it in your congregation?.

  Like anything else, if they want to use it against you they will. This one just happens to have a higher probability of that happening than some other things, because of its "high visibility"...superficial shit at its finest, and typical WT.
  

  Just an anecdote:
  

  I remember back in 2002 we did a reno of our hall without the RBC, and it took about a month. There were no meetings during that month, other than the abbreviated WT studies. All of the elders, MS, etc. that could grow a beard or goatee did during that month.

  I also traveled a lot for work for several years, and often grew a beard when away. I kept it a few times, and always received compliments in the hall for it...especially from the ladies.

  Tsarnaev guilty - should he get death or not?

  i think he probably will (it is the us after all) but i hope he doesn't.

  he caused incredible pain and suffering to men, women and children who had never done anything to him.

  many died in unimaginable agony, others are disabled for life.

  I am not politically a proponent of the death penalty. That said, the all or nothing ideological viewpoints held in political circles, (yes, even my own), do not fit this case.

  Torture is far worse than death, and I will never support that. He deserves the worst possible punishment, short of inflicting a lifetime of torture. Solitary confinement is torture. If someone is seriously being considered for this type of punishment, they have exceeded the threshold of what I would consider an allowable case for the death penalty. The death penalty is the only logical solution.
  

  Society has no use for sub-human homo sapiens such as Tsarnaev.

  my wife has a friend at her kh.

  she is 37 and her friend is 88. i know it sounds kind of strange but they are both the wives of ubm so they kind of stick together.

  my wife is very sincere in this friendship and this lady is a nice person.

  Born Ins Vs Converts

  did you ever feel like born ins were looked at differently than those that were converted?

  i always felt that there was a level of suspicion around those "raised in the truth".

  that we were always suspected of being jws to make our family happy.

  Born-ins and converts are fundamentally different.

  A child who is forced to accept what their parent(s) believe is never going to look at that information the same way as an adult who identifies with that information for one reason or another, and makes the life changes required to live up to that identity. It is just not possible.

  Those differences take different forms throughout a person's life, which I believe even includes differences after a person leaves. A convert probably has a much easier time adjusting to becoming a real person again, not necessarily so with a born-in.

  Apathy does tend to run stronger in born-ins overall. They didn't ask for the miserable existence their parents forced on them, but they are stuck. So apathy becomes the order of the day. This should be no surprise.

  Being a born-in sucks. I was lucky I had help in certain areas by other born-ins who were intelligent enough to know when to ignore the WT's counsel, and get an education, career, etc. Many others don't fare that well. Converts know absolutely nothing of that life.
