  well, i told my wife over the weekend i was going to go back school to finish my degree.

  she is 100% supportive of it!

  apparently she doesn't think higher education is so evil either.. since my former major was computer programming and that was in the late 1990's, i was told i'd have to retake a bunch of classes since times have changed.

  cappy..i'd make sure you can get a job after the degree.. I wonder what you will be able to do with a BS in biology.. around here theres a ton of pharmaceuticals so it would be good.. but i wonder what its like where you are..

  computer science will get you a job anywhere.

  Always pursue your passion first. Employment will follow. I say this as a hiring manager. Personally, I look for two things, 1. Obviously demonstrating one has the basic skills required or aptitude to learn them, and 2. Critical thinking skills. A degree in almost any area will teach you #2. I work in technology and recently hired a double BS in psychology and sociology because she met the two requirements above. She is my best employee.

  I never bought into the "it is playing by their rules argument". Most who say this are really pretty much faking it, (not that I don't understand the reasons for doing so, but it is equally as judgmental to claim "playing by their rules", when they don't know your personal reasons for DA). I did gain great peace of mind from it, and don't regret it for the most part, however...
  

  That said, it can be costly, and you may find years later there may just be that one person whom it offends that you could have made a better case with, have you not DA'd. It happened to me, and changed me immensely.

  I am convinced now that the organization has crossed the Rubicon. I really did not think I would say that so soon, but they are digging themselves into a hole big time with this video crap. No sane person is going to accept such nonsense. Videos like this will continue to polarize the nominally sane from the crazy loons.

  Forgive me for being curious, you are 44, you are in the U.S., you have a degree, not married, just woke up, never heard of C of C. Your story is rather puzzling. Is it possible to provide the missing pieces of information to complement the known information and create a coherent narrative.

  9 years ago: I was 33, In the US, had a degree, not married, just woke up, never heard of C of C. Why is this puzzling? Methinks sometimes there is way too much paranoia around here.

  i'm talking about her actual ideas, not the ideals that libertarianism has adopted and, in some cases, perverted.

  She does not accept there is such a concept as "society". Enough said.

  While I applaud her atheism, her philosophy is otherwise very misguided.

  first law of thermodynamics, that energy cannot be created or destroyed but changed from one form to another.

  how does that fit in with god and the big bang to you?

  does it make one make more sense then the other to you?

  Scientific laws apply within known parameters. They are only absolute within those parameters, (in this case, the known universe). The first law of thermodynamics is just one such law. Since the big bang is considered to be the "beginning" of the known universe, it would be logically incorrect to assume this law would have governed the the big bang itself. In other words, the big bang is largely responsible for the creation of such laws. (Edit: This explanation is somewhat oversimplified, but this is the general idea).

  This is the very idea that gives birth to the "multiverse" concept, widely adopted by modern physicists. Other universes likely exist, and are not governed by the same laws that govern ours.

  It will not work. The WT knows this and this is why the Conti case matters so much. They know the outcome will set a legal precedent that will force them to choose their finances over control of the flock. The decision will weaken the judicial process as the WT knows it.
