Former elder sentenced for driving drunk and vehicular homicide

i started a thread on this a few months back when it was first in the news.

well the former elder had his trial yesterday, plead guilty, and was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison.. link to story.

this article doesn't specifically mention the fact that he used to be an elder, but it was brought to light in prior news articles.

I'm with you Swalker. I think they should have stood him against the court house wall, and pink misted his drunk self all over the wall. Justice is NOW served.

Disciplining babies?

i'd appreciate advice.. i remember when i was pregnant the following exp was given at a district convention.

an elder said that he started discipling his child from 9 months.

he said whenever the 9 month old made a noise or cried at the meeting he would squeeze her.

Many years ago, while acting as a special attendant at an ass-embly, I witnessed the wife of a prominent Bethelite, who was the "nurse" in the first aid room, hold a water soaked towel over the nose and mouth of a very small child, to stop her from crying. I can only say that I was horiffied at such a blatant abuse of a child.

After more than 30 years, I can still see the terror in that little girls eyes.

Society's claim of Matt. 24:14 being fulfilled - What it could really mean

i've had this thought for quite a while and wonder if fits with the recent talk about the wts claiming that matt.

24:14 has been fulfilled.

my thought was this --- in the wake of the recent cutbacks at bethel, scaling back of literature, and other cost cutting measures, could the wts be preparing the r&f for the complete or massive reduction of literature that would normally be placed with "householders?
