What is God???
by BlackSwan of Memphis inis god just a ball of energy hanging around?.
is god a spirit person as the jw's suggest?.
ok, so i realize that there are a large number of atheists here, of which group i am ever so slowly counting myself among, who would love to shout down the topic with 'there is no god".

Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science
by skeptic2 inhe has set up as foundation but with a slight difference: there are two, one in the us, and one the uk, with the same name, in order to make the most benefit from the tax-breaks that apply to charities.
i currently give from the uk to the center for inquiry in the us, it would be nice to give to a uk based organization and know they were getting more from my money.
mission statement/video is here: .

Chicken, the Egg?, Creationist, the Evolutionist?
by skyking inthe thread re: did fossils make you doubt?
makes me laugh at the creationist because they have the same hurdle to over come as does the evolutionist do.
for the creationist can you tell me how god came from nothing?

Blind faith is always amusing, when it is not worrying - "If we didn't laugh, we'd cry".

original sin and evolution creationists
by BlackSwan of Memphis inok i've been trying to understand this.... there are a good number of christians out there who most definitely believe that god used evolution as a means of creating us.
for instance, i am pretty sure that the catholic church accepts this idea.. if man came about by evolution, how does sin come into play?
at what point did man sin and how does the story of adam and eve fit into this picture?.

I mis-read the title as a typo, I thought 'evolution creationists' was supposed to mean something like 'evolutionists/creationists'. Having re-read the OP I can see what 'evolution creationists' is intended to mean. Apologies to BlackSwan for taking the thread off-topic.

Did you ever stop to think that the universe and every thing in it, may be the evidence you're looking for. The universe and everything in it can be explained without needing to invoke an omnipotent god as an explanation. The laws of logic, invented, as you claim, by your god, tell us not to prefer a more complex hypothesis when a simpler one explains the evidence, because the more complex hypothesis has more assumptions built in, each of which might turn out to be incorrect (Occam's Razor). The universe as evidence for your god(s), or anyone else's god(s), is entirely non-compelling.
P.S. Life from non-life is a very active subject of scientific enquiry.

DD I cannot tell you that you are wrong, because what you are saying is outside the realm of scientific enquiry, there is no evidence or facts from which to draw a conclusion. Without evidence we can still apply Occam's Razor and find your hypothesis wanting, but that would not be proof.
I can say that you sound ridiculous, you might as well have said "An eight winged Donald Duck created the universe. No I don't need to explain where he came from, he's just there and that's that".

3.3 million old girl ?
by oldflame inlondon (reuters) - a 3.3 million-year-old skeleton of the earliest child ever found shows the ancient ancestor of modern humans walked upright but may also have climbed trees, scientists said on wednesday.
they found the well-preserved remains of a three-year-old girl of the species australopithecus afarensis -- which includes the fossil skeleton known as "lucy" -- in the dikika area of ethiopia, 400 kms northeast of the capital addis ababa.. "it represents the earliest and most complete partial skeleton of a child ever found in the history of paeleoanthropology," said dr zeresenay alemseged, of the max planck institute for evolutionary anthropology in leipzig, germany.. the skull, torso and upper and lower limbs, including the hand, show both human and ape-like features.
the state of the ancient bones suggest she was buried in a flood which may also have caused her death.. the remains provide the first evidence of what babies of early human ancestors looked like.

OK I went to AnswersInGenesis.com, I saw this on one page:
(See our Q&A on fossils to learn about how the Flood created most of the fossil record.)
errr... and then I left. -

I don't usually patronize AnswersInGenesis.com because they are starting with a conclusion and working backward to evidence. They'd have to make up an explanation wouldn't they... they'd never admit they were wrong.

DD, you're being disingenuous with this nonsense double-talk.
By the logic being employed in this thread, if your God created good and bad, he must have already had the capacity to conceive of them when he was brought into existence, so your God's creator must have that capacity, and your God's creator's creator must have that capacity too, ad infinitum.
If your God can have invented these simple concepts, then humans can too. These concepts are by there very existence in our culture understandable and comprehensible to us, there's nothing magical about them.

DID FOSSILS MAKE YOU DOUBT?

If you want to further investigate transitional fossils, but the whale or human examples I've posted don't take your fancy, this Talk Origins page is a fairly comprehensive list:
