If you work for a company with over 100 employees and you have been on the job for over a year, you could get up to 6 weeks off without being fired. Whether it is paid or not - not usually. Otherwise, just save up paid vacation time and don't leave work until you are on your way to the hospital in labor. My friend worked out a deal (because she was new in small company) where she saved up her 2 weeks vacation and then got to work from home for another few weeks and then go back part time. Breastfeeding? I don't think they really care about that here..... (Employers that is.) Work choices? Unions? I still think they leave a lot to be desired.

Question about maternity leave
by katiekitten inis it true that in america there is no paid maternity leave?.
if so surely that means most people have to return to work pretty quick after they have had a baby?
if thats true, then surely that means its not possible to breast feed your baby exclusively for any time at all?

Church of the Nazarene (edit to FRIENDS OF THE NAZARENE)
by Gringa indoes anyone know when this church was founded and who founded it?
this is a spin-off church from the jws.
i had almost forgot all about this group.

Yeah, my husband is a Church of the Nazarene minister and if they are a break-off of anything, it is Methodists. The are mainstream Christian. From the Friends of Nazarene website, it looks like the name is the only real commonality. I didn't really look at any of the materials, but I wonder what the Church of Nazarene thinks of the name usage? LOL - they are really a very loving community who probably won't be horrid, but still......

any thoughts?
by BIG D infor those of you that dont know me, i am a single dad with 3 boys for 5 years now, my x signed her rights away long ago.. .
no support ever, no insurance, even before she signed her rights away, many long stories of her abuse that caused her to lose custody to me years ago, she has never dealt with her abuse over even acknowledged it, i put my kids thru years of counseling, and they do not wish to see her, she has been calling alot lately, i dont hear from her for maybe 4 months at a time, she is crying , wanting to try to see them.. i must tell you she has , mentally , physically, and mentally sexually abused them, and then charged me with sexual abuse, with which it took me a year in evaluations, and family studies , and 35,000 in lawyer fees to disprove, and the judge saw her lies and removed them from her for abuse.
i also believe she has many emotional problems , both real and imagined.

I understand where you are coming from. My son's father is abusive and yet I keep hoping he will come to his senses. He has not done anything as bad as your ex-wife (I don't think - although more and more is coming to light about him.) However, I don't like to deprive my son of his father and at the same time I know it is bad for my son to have to deal with him. It is a hard line to walk!!!!
Maybe what will help is the experience of a childhood friend. We were both about 14 years old and he kept saying how he wanted to meet his bio dad, how life would be better with him, etc. (His JW stepdad was also abusive to him and his mother.) Well, he was taken to Texas to meet him and his bio dad was drunk at the time and it crushed this poor boy so much that I don't think he ever really recovered.
I think the best thing for my son, even though it will be hard to go through, is when the courts finally proclaim that my ex is unstable enough to be denied any visitation. It will hurt me to see my child go through it, but it is not me that has been violent, abusive and mentally unbalanced. It is not my son's fault either, but something that he will have to deal with at some point.
Protect those kids, even though it is hard!!!

is there a "disfellowshipped list"?
by ruined ini stopped going to kh when i was in my early 20's.
i'm now in my mid 40's.
i've done many of the things for which a person should be df'd over the many years since but i don't know whether i am df'd.

However, it would make for an interesting time to write en masse to the Borg and request to know whether each one is df'd or not and for what reason? Do you suppose they would divulge?

Now widow wants MONEY because of no blood transfusion

should not she just get a job?
or express her faith that jehovah will take care of her?
-

I'm fairly sure the blood docs had a clause in there whereby the doctors are held harmless for any loss of life due to JWs decision. Therefore, why does this not apply to the insurance and/or employer?
There is no saying for sure that he WOULD have survived had he taken the transfusion either, but basically he chose his path - why expect others to pay for it? Or did he follow the Armageddon plan of "Don't save money, don't have life insurance, don't have 401K because Armageddon is coming?"

Getting married too young
by freedomfighter inhave noticed an inevitable trend in australia.
(probably is all over the world).
as a jw u can't have sex before marriage right?
-
VanillaMocha73
As well as the emphasis on sex at the KH - I mean a WT study about oral sex that our toddlers must sit through and pay attention to.... Local needs talks.. constant talks on immorality.... Add that to hormones and "dont touch each other unless you are getting married" and you spawn a whole boatload of troubles. I was barely 18 and married a 34 year old.... (pedophile)

Distilled water will work, but your eyes will sting in the morning. And yes, keep an extra bottle on hand.

Wow. I hope they find a cure for this soon. We have a guy at the bus stop that has something like this. I have no idea.... I guess I would want to try the surgery rather than try life like that. But how would I know? I can't even imagine.
