If you could make and distribute a bumper stick to open minds.......
by whyizit inif you could make and distribute bumper stickers to use as a tool to open the minds of jws or cult members, what would you put on them?.
keep in mind that you would like to open thier minds, yet not offend them.
something that any person could stick on their bumper and the jws would not be able to find reason to label them as opposers or apostates.

How Much Do You Really Know???
by mama1119 inthis is probably a question more for those who grew up in the truth, rather than those who studued and came in.

My dear Cherish: Run!!! Get out while you can. Don't be deceived and don't throw away your life, your dreams, your talents and your free will.
I don't know what motivated you to study with JW's but:
If you want to understand the Bible...Read it, pray and meditate on it.
If you want to be a better person... Concentrate on the Gospels. The"golden rule" really works. Also the friuts of the spirit. Try to develop them and apply them in all human relashionships and your life will be much richer.
If you need help with depression or other emotional/psycological issues.... see a professional
If you want to make new friends...join a club.
I have been a witness all my life and I have been seriously damaged by it. Don't make the same mistake.

If the UN dissolves...will the WTS recover?
by AuldSoul inthere is a public groundswell of support within the united states of america, inc. for the us to withdraw from the un.
while this departing of one-half of the seventh king (and the "king of the south") could be prophetically spun into a harmless twist and twang on an old saw, the general consensus seems to be that the un would have great difficulty maintaining orderliness within its ranks.
also, there is a strong argument to be made that without us financial backing the un would fold due to a shortage of funding.. although it isn't particularly likely, it is certainly a possibility.

They will come up with something and most will believe it. "New light" at it's best!

As someone in the "truth" all her life (47 years) all I can tell you is that this is one of those issues where the light flickers. When I was growing up in the 60's college was taboo. In the late 70's, when I attended ,there was some softening particularly in areas outside the US, because of need. Then in the 80's things tightended up again. In the 90's there were some very balanced articles regarding education and in congs. where elders had half a brain people were pretty much free to pursue an education w/o repercussions.
However, I have noticed that in the last 2 or 3 years the trend is towards "education is evil" again. Did you attend the district convention two summers ago? Do you remember the Timothy drama? It was all about how Timothy and his pal Jonathan were contemplating what to do with their life. Jonathan chose "higher education" in Athens and to marry his fiance and start a family. Timothy, of course, chose to go on the road with the apostle Paul. And even though Jonathan did nothing wrong, you were left with the distinct impression that he was to be looked down upon. To be like Timothy was the only chioce for a true christian.
I asked several friends if they realized that this was not a real Bible account, but just a story with Timothy and Paul thrown in. They said no!!
I was upset that in the summary talk after the drama this point was not brought out. I felt it was perhaps an attempt to capitalize on the fact that many in attendance were new ,or so indoctinated to believe everything from the platform, that they would not notice that the drama was nothing more than fiction.
I also noticed that in this summer's DC the Timothy drama was alluded to several times. Repetition fior emphasis?
In a nut shell, the pendulum has swung to the right. At least at the present time.

Say You're a Bethelite & Monitoring JWD - How Would You Feel About THESE??
by Seeker4 ini'm talking about the new posters, like kitten whiskers, who started posting today (hope this works: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/120817/1.ashx).
and it seems like we're getting a few like this nearly every day.
people who were raised jws, really worry that they are doing the right thing in leaving, yet who have been made to feel not good enough by the wts, who felt they never measured up, who struggled with it, but came to realize that what they'd been brought up to believe was just not the truth.. the same stories are told over and over again, and they come from sincere, good people - not whiny, fault-finding apostates like the rest of us riffraff around here!

seeker4: you used the word "damged". I, for one, certainly feel damged. I hope we can somehow overcome the damage done to us and get others out soon enough so their damge can be reversed.

PLM: Have you ever asked your mom if she has any input into what we read in the publications? Does she get a thought and write to the GB? Does she later see her thoughts expressed in print?
After all, she is part of the "faithful and discreet slave" class.
My parents are under the impression that this is how it works.
Your insight would be very helpful

DECLARATION OF TRUTHFULNESS
by tijkmo in.
i was just at my sis for supper...it came up in conversation that when they (her and hubby) were on the last circuit assembly programme - relating an experience - he had to sign a declaration specifying that the experience was true.. i was completely taken aback by this...the irony etc...they were surprised that i was unaware of this.. funnily enough the reason it came up was that in a different talk an experience had been acted out that is almost certainly untrue..given that it happened to a girl who is seeing a psychiatrist for constant lieing...her father had the assembly part and must surely have also had to sign the declaration... had anyone else had to sign such a declaration or know someone who did.

That's really funny considering the drama from two years ago. It was about Timothy and his buddy Jonathan and how they were considering higher education in Athens. Of course, this was fictitious, but in the talk at the end of the drama they never mentioned that fact. I asked several people if they realized it was not a true Bible account and they said no. I bet most who saw the drama thought it was straight out of the scriptures, being as many may have been new, not to active, or so accustumed to believing everythig they hear from the platform is gospel.

I joined in July. I mostly lurk. The other night I had the urge to unburden myself and posted a lenghty story in the middle of another thread. I'll get the hang of it soon enough.
