i have started this thread about 50 times the last two days, but was unable to post it.
i talked with the elders on thursday evening and i have decided to stop coming here.
I wish you well in whatever you decide. You will always be welcome to return if you wish, without conditions (we will not insist that anyone be present when you do research, will not gag you and we will not insist that you stop talking to the elders - perhaps that will give you something to think about).

sorry if this is a sad question, but i know of 3 jw's that have suicided.
i haven't known any personally, but i was wondered if you know any or know of any jw's that have suiced?
and do you know the reason why?
My sister tried to commit suicide (pills and slashed wrists) after her husband left her for another woman. They were both JWs at the time. She had a brief visit from an elder to make sure she was repentant. Otherwise she would have been disfellowshipped. She left the religion years before I did. Fortunately she?s forgiven me for shunning her all those years because she was eventually disfellowshipped anyway (for moving in with her worldly boyfriend).
A family friend, a lovely woman who had a Downs syndrome child, found it difficult to cope with all the ?do more? rhetoric from the Society. The elders told her to pull herself together and keep attending meetings, more study and field service and all would be fine. She poured petrol over herself and set fire to it while she sat in her car. I still see her son selling newspapers in the city centre.
God how I hate this religion.

For everybody's information, this article is due to be studied in the week of January 19 - 25
I would be grateful if anyone in good standing could attend that meeting and report back on what was said and any conversations overheard afterwards (you might even want to start a conversation and steer it towards what this article might mean).
Also that week someone might be able to monitor the pro JW boards to see if anyone picks up on this (or even start a thread yourself ).
I expect there will be a 'question from readers' about this sometime mid-summer, with further clarification.

We will just have to wait and see what they say next on this subject.
Personally I think the jigsaw pieces have been given out by the GB, they will now wait to see if the R&F can put them together to make the picture. Not stating things outright is their current modus operandi (sp?).
The reason for this is simple - plausible deniability.
I also think Stephanus makes an excellent point about a succession of minor dates (not stated but hinted at) to keep the dubs on their toes. This article is important as it sets an outside limit on the length of this system; but an imminent Armageddon will still be pushed.

i was just a little kid when the 1975 thing came about, didn't pay much attention to it, after it was over, my parents told me it was just some people being over anxious, and being about 8 at the time i believed it, now when you research you find some amazing articles.
what do you remember being told about 1975 as the year got closer ?
I remember telling other kids at school that the world would end in 1975.
Yeah! That's exactly what I was going to say! I even told my teachers that they would die soon (when they upset me!). I was told off by my headmaster, and my mum was too, for bringing JW literature into school.
I also remember the disappointment when nothing happened. One brother, clutching at straws I suppose, said in September 1975 that Jehovah usually does things in October. Poor sods.
1975 was HUGE in JW life...it was the main topic of conversations and actions.
Then of course 1975 ceased to exist in JW chronology. Mass amnesia ensued and I never thought of it again until I left the religion.
