  What do you think the biggest danger to the end of mankind or earth is?

  i love watching shows on the history channel, discovery channel and so on.

  they had this program on the other day, on the ten biggest threats to mankind and the planet earth.

  surprisingly, none of the items on the list were god destroying mankind or the earth, so that must be further evidence that the witnesses were wrong, go to college now and retire.

  As for global warming, I really don't think it is an E.L.E. - many may die or be displaced but on the whole mankind will adapt. It also isn't in a viruse's best interests to eradicate ALL its potential hosts.

  I think the only extinction level events would come about from a severe 'nuclear winter' caused by super volcanoes, asteroid impacts or our own weapons. Imagine what the world would be like after a night that lasted three years!

  What are your favorite bible bloopers ?

  my favorite is the scripture matthew 27:9 jesus remembers the scripture correct but misatributes it to jeremiah.. it's at zechariah 11:12. all bibles have this mistake in it.

  it's funny the nwt crossnotes it to zechariah and leaves the text alone so much for a better translation.

  i'm like a walking nyquil advertisement...coughing, drainage, sore throat, over all icky feeling.

  but....i don't have anymore days off left so i get to drag my sick ass to work.

  hooray corporate america.

  Gargling with soluble asprin helps with a sore throat.

  Use decongestant cough mixture during the day to clear the tubes and cough suppressive at night to help you sleep.

  Hot chicken soup has been proven to help a little, more than any other hot liquid (but no one knows why), and of course keep yourself dosed up with an analgesic of choice.

  Vitamin C levels drop dramatically during a cold so take supplements, preferably with zinc. (I believe that cold viruses first take hold in the throat and I've warded off quite a few sucking vitamin C and zinc lozenges).

  Of course it's too late now but the single most effective preventative measure against colds is to frequently wash your hands.

  JWs view of Lord of the Rings VS Harry Potter

  i'm sure this will vary between jw to jw, but their choices are:.

  1) they won't watch/read either.. 2) they will only allow lotr, not hp.. 3) they will only allow hp, not lotr.. 4) they will allow both.. in my experience, 3 never happens and 2 happens the most.

  with the similar theme of magic, the occult, fantasy and monsters, i wonder what lets them think one is okay and the other is not.

  I suppose the magic/spells in Harry Potter is more 'in your face' than in LOTR. Casting spells is central in HP, and seems much more 'uncanny' than the incidental, nature orientated, mild magic of LOTR.

  "Family day" Is this a new jdub thing?

  i know of jws that celebrate "family day" at this time of year.

  i have asked these jw about where they got the term "family day" was it from the watchtower?

  they seem to deny the watchtower had ever mentioned "family day", but i can sense they are trying to hide something here.

  Yes, we had a 'family day' when we would buy presents for each other and our kids - our wedding anniversary on December 3rd.

  Now we are divorced she has moved it to January, presumably to take advantage of the sales.

  i remember when i was new in the "troof", i was walking in a mall and a jw window washer saw me, and asked, "what are you doing here"?.

  yeah, he had a good reason to be at the mall, cause he was washing windows, but i had no business there.... i guess he thought that i was being seduced by material stuff.... and i was stupid enough, not to tell him, mind your own business fu**er....

  well i'm really feeling down about jumping all over my husband with all this new info i find here.

  i'm really upset with myself because i dont want to use this info in a negative way ( as to say aha!...told you so ), but as a means to enlighten him, because of my love for him i had the hoove in mouth disease.

  Oh, I thought this was going to be a Britney Spears thread...

  Anyway, evetteto, like J-G said, take things slow. Choose what you say to your hubby very carefully. Feed 'em like a goldfish; little and often.

  In my experience JWs can experience an information overload that makes them close down forever on the person that caused it. Whatever you say after that will fall on deaf ears.

  As we've all learned, being an apostate doesn't make you a bad person, so being a jw doesn't make you a bad person either, just misled.
