  What do YOU say to people in hopeless situations?

  sometimes you have a friend that falls on hard times.

  their health fails, they lose their jobs, they spend their last dollar -- whatever.

  they don't have anything good on the horizon.

  When someone tells me they need assistance I listen as I take them to the grocery store and let the fill a basket and I pick up the tab. Then give them some cash. I am not wealthy but if I can't help.......

  I remember my father, while growing up, on many occasions helping jws at the hall or even people who came only once and ask for help watched him take the cash out of his pocket.

  My father told me a poor man can be of little aid to those in need as they are almost in need themselves.

  He has not attended in years but told me one of the jws came to him for assistance the other day, which he provided.

  Helping one's fellow man is benificial for both of you.

  Some may not share this point of view but my belief is that one can be used by the holy spirit through thes acts of charity and also carries a blessing for the bestower.

  Being asked for a ride to work:What do you think I should do?

  i've only started into my second week at this new job.

  its in another city, but i live in the end of town thats closest to that other city.

  from my drive way to the job is less than 25 km.

  When answering in the negitive my finding has been the words "I don't think so" says NO in a much less objectional way. In these situations be positive let your yes mean yes and your no-no. Positive being for example, " I pass 5th and Elm at 6:05. To ride with me be there at this time as my sceduel does not permit me to wait; I see you there I stop, if not I keep rolling. And by the way since I'll be supplying the car on the days your there to be picked up you'll be supplying the gas. And as my calcuations show the gas for this part of the journey is n$. If you'd like to ride with me, 5 days of up front gas will let me know you're serious. And NO REFUNDS

  Hardships and Assemblies

  i just left a post on the "pa convention" thread concerning some of the hardships and difficulties that jws had to (or some here still have to?

  ) endure just to either get to a convention or what they go through after getting to the convention.. having to trot around from designated doors to the restrooms (rather than being ordered to use the door they told you to) no matter where your family was sitting..... or having you and your family have to climb way too many stairs on the last upper tier to find seats.....while plenty of empty seats remained on the ground floor that were never used that whole day?.

  or the designated wts-regulation-sized cooler you had to lug into the stadium because you weren't allowed to leave the site to get a snack or a drink?.

  I remember like 1968 or 9 Toronto Ca . There was a fence around the track and people would hang cassette recorders and record the talks. I would always try to stand by one where I could talk into the microphone and would weave a tapestry of vulgaritys. I always figured that these were never listened to after the fact but I hoped so.

  Is anyone familiar with how the attorneys are compensated at Brooklyn?

  i'm curious because after working for attorneys i know how they bill.

  by the 10 minute increment, per document etc.. i can't believe they would have enough qualified attorneys volunteering time and labor to cover every aspect of their various legal problems.

  is this perhaps where all the money is going?.

  why has love of neighbour grown cold?many people feel miserable with no solution.

  Have you ever been involved in litigation?

  I have and when I hire a firm I try to find (the biggest gun) largest firm, longest estasblished, best track record etc. This makes a difference when your in front of a judge.

  Having to litigate in many states in the past I paid huge retainers for the best or the biggest guns in town.

  I.E. one of the firms I've used before was very large and established before the civil war (1854). This = large retainer.

  So do you believe that the WTS would use an in house on a complex case or if not then are they exempt from retainers? I think not!

  You get what you pay for!!! Thats the way the legal system works!

  I was told by my attorney that the jws had the largest legal dept of any of the religions. Paraphrasing what he said it was because that had to fight a considerable number of contested will cases and to make sure the executors do things to their liking. Someday I may have to deal with this group as an executor.
