A little update on my family
by sooner7nc ina few of you may remember that my wife had a kidney transplant early last year.
since then the kidney has been incredible, giving her a new lease on life.
it's really been good to see the light in her eyes that i had missed for quite a long time.. the counterpoint to this good news is the problems we have had with our son coltin.

come, I am sorry you are losing contact with your grandmother, but as you say, it will be her choice, she can choose to call you, and she probably will at some point. It is your life, and you know that staying would be impossible, so do what you have to do.
Let us know how things go.

Quentin (from JW-net) is dying
by Terry inquentin robburts has been on jw-net off and on for over 6 years and he is one of my oldest and most loyal friends.. his wife called me awhile ago and gave me the news.. quentin was rushed to the hospital's emergency room with acute renal failure and congestive heart failure.. .
this does not surprise me for the following reason.
his pain doctor put him on oxycontin last thursday.

I am glad he is going to be OK for now. Getting second hand information at time of crisis can be tricky, and of course sometimes things seem worse than they are. And even then doctors can be wrong. I have a friend who was given 3 to six months to live, 9 months ago. It's not that she is not terminal, but I guess she is just tougher than they thought. She just weaned herself off all pain meds, I don't know how, and also stoped some other meds that her body can't handle, so she is actually doing a bit better. At the end of the day medicine is sometimes an inexact science.

How many decades/centuries before 1914 becomes irrelevant?
by jwfacts inhow long do you think the watchtower can speak about 1914 and have followers think it relevant?
i think for people born in the 1900's, it feels like an acceptable year.
but what about those born since 2000, will 1914 seem like a year of relevance?

I think it is dead already. The overlapping generation nonsense was just a bridge to buy themselves time to get distance from the 1914 teachings. They will start to refer to it less and less and over the next 10 or 20 years they will stop talking about it completely. The books that mention it will go out of print and soon no one will remember it was ever part of Watchtower teachings. This was how they handled 1975. You can show JWs printouts from the literature talking about the 1975 date and they just say it's from apostates, or its been faked or even that it doesn't say what it says. The entire organization is in denial that the WTBTS predcited the end of this system in 1975. They have proven they can maintain a fiction even with the internet. Once you manage to convince someone that they can only trust one source for information, you can tell them anything you want. Pretty soon 1914 wiil be as relevant as Miracle Wheat.

I was "allowed" to go to my JW moms KH memorial I am not officially DF, but I left my ex husband and lived in sin before I married my current husband, So my JW family treats me as DF. I was even allowed to go to a meal after, at a JWs home. No one would talk to me other than non JW family though. I should have just skipped it, it was just a JW recruiting session, nothing about my mom other than she was in the cult.

Need help in identifying a Bible translation
by Caminante ini'm working on transcribing the full 3 hour recording of ray franz's visit in romania of over five years ago and i realize he quotes from a pretty unfamiliar bible translation.
well, it's unfamiliar to me--it might not be for you though--and i don't seem to find it anywhere online.
as a clue, i have the verses from 1 peter 4:8-10. they read as follows: "above all, let your love for one another be constant, for love covers a multitude of sins.

Try typing the scripture into a search engine, I have found many are online and will come up with the translation name

Anyone else in "limbo?"
by KitchenWitDinah ini've been out of the organization for about 4 years now, but have been in limbo since i've left.
the more i learn about world religions, the less apt i am to accept anything as truth, since there are so many similarities between so many religions.
i know many cultures have flood myths involving 40-ish days and 8 survivors (the chinese written language has many surprising allusions to biblical stories).

I felt that way at first, it was hard thinking you had all the answers to life's perplexing problems, only to find out you were wrong. I felt like someone ripped off my security blanket - It was cold! After a while I started to realize I didn't need to have all the answers, that maybe it was OK to just be in limbo. Now it doesn't feel like limbo, it is what it is, any one who tells you they have all the answers is lying or wrong. I am even open to the idea of another faith based community. I still feel more comfortable with Christianity, with all its faults. No religion will ever be perfect, and I am not going to join a hellfire/trinity kind of church. I have attended United Church of Christ, Congregational, I like it so far. They don't have any doctrines, per my MIL, who attends.

Wha Happened: I think a few people I know live out there. I pass that KH on the way to Ventura from LA
Carpenteria is North of Ventura, so you would not have passed it if going from LA to Ventura.
I used to live in Ventura, I have passed that KH many times. I always thought it was the prettiest KH, it was built before the quick build, cookie cutter halls.

I believe they all must know. It is like any organization, to rise to the top of the heap you have to play politics and do a fair amount of back stabbing, It does not favor the kind hearted. And having read many experiences about Bethel, there is no way you could rise in the organization without turning a blind eye to some very disturbing practices. They may have started out believing it, but it is hard for me to imagine they end up believing.
