So, I became very ill ... what did my loving brothers do?

recently i have fallen ill with a serious case of chickenpox (shingles).

three weeks down, high fevers, and the blisters attacked mostly my scalp and face, but then also my whole upper body.

i looked horrid, truly like a mutant monster out of a nuclear disaster.

I'm sorry you had shingles, I know it can be very painful.

Jesus said "by this all will know you are my disciples, that you have love amongst yourselves". The mark of a true follower of Christ is love. Not the preaching work, but love. Yet JWs will spend hours each week in the futile preaching work and zero time encouraging or helping their fellow believers. If you are sick and miss meetings you are considered weak and damaged goods, people will talk to you less, as if you have committed a sin. People are so busy with the burdensome requirements of witness life they don't have time to help out anybody, nor are they encouraged to do so. It's not like they can report time for it like field service.

I occasionally attend the church that my in laws go to. They have people assigned to help the sick, the pastor helps those going through problems, and they feed the hungry on a regular basis. In church, people are encouraged to talk openly, during services about those in their family or who they know who are having problems, even if the people mentioned don't belong to that church.

So who is a follower of Christ and who isn't?

wt obviously must realize now the value of those that tried to enforce change on them.

i think if it wasn't for these people doing what they did wt would be in even more drama now.

so my question is do you ever think wt would voluntarily reinstate and publicly apologize to bill bowen and barbara anderson for all their hard work in bringing reform.

the rothschild family will not allow the aussies to take any significant action against their religious wing (mormons, jws, adventists, etc.).

the worst outcome for the borg will be a relatively small fine and a deadline to change their rules.

Well it's not like the Royal Commission can bring down the Watchtower even if they wanted to, but I think they may be able to force them to do things differently, at least in Australia.

And it does shine a light on the religion, something that is not good for them, as they have operated in secrecy for so long. No one thing will bring down the Watchtower, but the more negative things that are in the media the more people will question things.

As far as conspiracy theories, I think people believe them because of confirmation bias and because it makes them feel smart because they have special knowledge and because it makes the world seem simpler and more understandable, even if it's in a negative way. Unfortunately the world is not that simple, and there is no one shadow group pulling the strings, it's complex and chaotic and no one group is controlling everything and there are no simplistic answers.

Think about it, if the "Rothchilds" were controlling everything and were protecting the Watchtower, why didn't they prevent the Royal Commission from happening in the first place? It wouldn't have been that hard, no one knew anything about JWs and Child sex abuse a month ago, Now that all this is out in the open it will he much harder to prevent any negative repercussion to the WTBTS.

Quality Thinking - Warning: Long Post Ahead

recently, several threads have had some debate about logic, evidence, critical thinking and skepticism.

i wanted to write a post discussing those things, hopefully to clarify what those things are, why they are important and how to use those tools.

first, logic, at its core, is simply a method for how to reason validly, how to draw conclusions based on a premise.

It's funny you mention computing because I believe that learning to program is what helped me learn to think in a more logical way and eventually helped me realise the Watchtower was wrong. I did not go to college, but worked my way up from admin to auditing to systems analyst. I liked the challenge and pushed myself to learn new things.

I started out with excel, which is a very simple version of coding, then simplified version of Cobol. I was mostly self taught, so it was a lot of trial and error. If your code didn't run or didn't give you the results you want, then it was wrong, so you had to figure out why. I think the experience changed the way my brain worked in a way, it's Boolean logic, very black and white. I also had to do a lot of reporting and learn to communicate to people in every part of the company, explaining very complex technical issues to non technical people, all very good experience in learning to think.

hey folks,.

i'm wondering if you all could help me with my next video that i want to put up in the next couple of days (though i'm hoping for tonight), i want to come up with a list of the most prominent urban legends surrounding jws and then refute them whatever they may be.. i'm thinking there's the urban legend about the question on jeopardy that said the nwt was the most accurate would be a good one.

that one stems from an online powerpoint presentation named theological jeopardy and a book which was written comparing six different translations of the bible.

I found the information below in a quick internet search. I am not interested enough to confirm it, but if you want to spend the time you could go to the databse listed at the end to confirm it yourself. But why my bother? People believe what the want despite all the evidence in the world. You might ask your friend to prove it, if it actually happened it should be easy to confirm.

The new world translation is just the American standard bible with some things added by the Watchtower that are questionable at best. For example they put Jehovah in the translation of the Greek scriptures even though it was never in the original Greek. They also took severe liberties with John 1:1 to support their anti Trinitarian stance, so how could it be considered the most accurate by anyone other than Jehovah's Witnesses? As others have pointed out, which of the many translations is best is subjective, and Jeopardy doesn't deal in opinions, just facts.

Finally, for Jeopardy to use that in a game they would have had to have gotten the information somewhere. What would have been the source? It's doubtful they would have used the gone to the WBTS as a source for information, why go to them and not a mainstream religion or better yet, a neutral souce, like Wikipedia? If the Jeopardy people had done that they would have had to have a source to prove it was correct in case it was challenged by another contestant. If someone, other than Jehovah's Witnesses, decided that the NWT was the "most accurate" it should be easy to find, so where is it?

It's just JW urban legend, like John Denver (and a dozen other musicians) making all JWs leave.

The Watchtower is just a legend in their own mind.

Jehovah's Witnesses, you are all deceived -- not only by the WBTS, but by the MIStranslators of the NWT, who never studied Biblical Hebrew, Aramaic or Koine Greek.  Are you willing to bet where you spend eternity on a group of men who choose to remain nameless instead of revealing they couldn't speak, write or translate a simple Hebrew sentence?

Exposing one's identity. When?

i've been toying with the idea of just coming out and posting my name and location as an attempt to be available to locals that secretly browse the forum that have known me for up to 25 years.

( "reaching out", so to speak ).

i'm not da'd or df'd, so this most certainly could end in a dramatic confrontation.

That's a bold move, I hope it works out for you.

I have made no effort to hide my identity, the few JW family I have treat me as DF anyway so I have nothing to hide and anyone who knows me would be able to figure out my identity pretty easily, but I'm not putting my name and address out there, just because it's the internet and you never know what kind of wacky people are out there.

You live in Napa? Dang, we're practically neighbors, I live on the other side of San Pablo Bay.

I signed the petition. I would suggest you change the title to make it clear that the Watchtower as an organization is not sexually abusing children, but that they are guilty of hiding people who sexually abuse children.

For example: Investigate Jehovah's Witnesses for hiding sex abuse and protecting abusers.

Has the WT ever said it's okay to steak rare?

i'm revisiting an old topic here, but this was a subject of much confusion for me when i was still a witness.

i went to a spanish congregation in the u.s. and it seemed to be taken for granted by most that you needed to cook beef thoroughly to "get rid" of the blood.

i was surprised when i learned that folks in the english speaking hall would order a steak medium-rare and think nothing of it.. it wasn't until after i left the witnesses that it started to occur to me that if the red fluid that was present when you'd cut the beef was blood, cooking it thoroughly wouldn't get rid of it, it'd just cook it and transform it into another color.

Really, bloody meat is OK, it's just "fractions".

Just joking, but I was always told that that was not blood, but just fluid from the meat that was red from trace amounts of blood. There is no way to remove every bit of blood from meat and that was never the goal. In Jewish tradition, as long as the animal has been bled properly, it is ok to eat. It's the process of bleeding that makes it acceptable, not the presence or not of blood.

In any case, If there is still blood in the meat, cooking wouldn't get rid of it anyway, it would only be water that cooks off, leaving any solid parts parts the blood.
