A comforting thought
by Truth and Justice ini have not been on the board in a long time, and as i started reading some of the posts, i could not believe how many new faces or names have appeared on this site.
it is certainly alot more than i could count.
it builds more confidence in me, that the other have of my immediate family will open their eyes.

I don't remember ever seeing this many new ones. I think the child abuse issues, total lack of love in the congregations and the governing body and their blatant demands for money are starting to wake people up. -

Not one single head was lost on the wife birthday!!!!
by James Mixon ina surprised birthday party for the wife yesterday.
we had no idea about the planned party.. the kids (wife daughter and husband) really surprised the wife and i. sunday morning a. truck pulled up and started unloading tents, tables and chairs.
the son-in-law fired up the grill,.

That sounds like a really fun party. Isn't it great to enjoy simple things like this? Think about how much energy and thought the JWs put into avoiding things like this, and with so little reason. They end up with a life that is all about NOT doing things.

This woman is refusing to obey a direct court order. We are a country ruled by law, not religion. It is very appropriate to jail someone who refuses a court order, it's not some minor thing, the courts must have to have the ability to enforce the law. People can't just decide to disobey laws because of their religious beliefs and expect the courts to do nothing, that's not how it works.
Many people have used religion to justify all kind of behavior, not allowing women to vote, discriminating because of race, interracial marriages, etc. Once those things were outlawed, they didn't allow people to do decide if they wanted to obey the law or not because of their religious beliefs, this is no different. It is a big deal when an elected official flatly refuses to obey the law, if they allowed her to do this there would be patchwork standards all over, some counties obeying the law, other not. You simply cannot allow that, it would be chaos.
This woman is not being jailed for religious beliefs, she is free to believe gay marriage is wrong, she just isn't being allowed to use her beliefs to break the law by refusing to obey a court order.

Participate In The EX-JW Personality Test!
by C0ntr013r infirst of all; i must admit that i'm not a huge fan of putting people in boxes like this, it is not an exact science.
but i still think the data can be quite interesting and i intend to collect it and share it in a structured way with you guys.
so without future ado here are the details.. link to test: .

I am an INFP, which is consistent with tests I have taken in the past.
Towards the end of my time as a JW I learned a bit about the Meyers Brigs personality classification, it helped me understand why I found the meetings to be pure torture. I am an introvert, so I hate meetings in general. I am intuitive, so the plodding, rote teaching style was boring to me, I am a feeler, so shunning people and condemning those of other religions just never felt right and the strict rules and black or white thinking went counter to my perceiver nature. I had a theory that the people best suited to the religion are ESTJ, that possibly the group as a whole was ESTJ.

Do you find it hard to be around active JW's now?
by EdenOne ini do - actually, it's become close to unbearable.. and herein lies the paradox: i tried to fade in the illusion that i might keep contact with family and friends still "in".
was it worth it?
because not only most of them shun me anyways, but i find it almost unbearable to be around them, especially when the cult chit chat kicks in: every cute animal video clip triggers endless comments about glimpses of the future paradise and how "god did it"; those greasy praises to the organization and the governing body; the dumb awe about every jw broadcast and those cheesy music videos; the endless drivel against other religions when one knows perfectly well that we're no better than them; the endless flow of "experiences" of field service or spectacular conversions into "the truth"; the relentless congregation gossip; and so on .... i ask myself: is this why i am fading for ...?

That's the problem with fading, you don't realise that you will change and grow when you leave, but your family and friends won't. Eventually you change so much you can't really have same kind of relationship.

Does gay marriages open the door to bigamist, polygamist, and practicing bestiality?
This is what is called the "slippery slope" logical failure. Or is it the "false equivalency" logical failure? I'm not sure, maybe it's both. Do you actually think they are equivalent? If so then I feel sorry for you.
Now that you mention it though, would the self righteous jail bird issue marriage licenses for polygamy if it was legal? It is in the bible.

It's really great that you managed to get your wife out, that's not always possible, so good for you. Thanks for your research, I keep your notes handy in case I get a chance to talk to some in my family.
