"For sale: baby shoes, never worn"
by Simon inif you've never come across the above title before, it's considered to be the shortest novel possible.
a story, possibly a moving one, in just 6 words attributed to earnest hemingway.. it started a genre called "flash fiction" which is a memoir in six-words.. what would yours be?.
indoctrinated child found freedom, love, family.

Interesting story SBF, I always wondered about your avatar.
It seems like every family ( I am in the US) has their story about a connection to Native Americans. We just love to think we're connected to the Native culture I guess. Sounds more interesting than 'My ancestors were penniless squatters for two centuries.'
Yeah, my family also. I was always told that my paternal grandmother had some American Indian ancestry. A relative did a geneology, it turns out that it's not true. They did discover that my paternal grandfather was illegitimate. Well, actually that was known, but the story was that my great grandmother's first husband died in the civil war. His commanding officer had promised to look after her in the event of his death, so he did, eventually having two children with her. He never officially acknowledged his children, although my grandfather did eventually take his last name.

Brave New W0rld of Education - The Regressive Left

please have a look at the film, click the link and check out the links in the article.
i would love to hear your thoughts.. ...

I didn't care for it. Yes, of course there are people that go too far in promoting a liberal agenda, just as there are people that go to far in promoting a right wing agenda. To point out the excesses of the fringe is easy to do, but at the same time these obvious examples of absurd ideologies are not usually representative of either side. It's great for comedy, not so great for trying to bridge differences.
When you hold up examples of people that got carried away by a concept you take the easy way out to put down those whose ideas differ from you and do nothing to advance political discourse. Most people are neither to the far right or to the far left, but somewhere to the left or right of middle. I would rather see the discussion start there, then work on finding common ground. Then people might learn something instead of getting defensive and shutting down.

I am ready to dump my comcast cable and internet. I just spent all day trying to get Netflix on my kindle, which I have had done for years, it suddenly stopped working a few days ago. I talked to eight different people with no resolution. For as much as we pay, you should get decent customer service. I kept getting cut off without resolving the problem. Customer service is a joke. Unfortunately their internet service is hard to beat.
When we lived in Colorado I had Dish. I got them to cut it down to ten dollars a month for basic network shows. I just kept saying I didn't need tv at all, just turn it off, they didn't want to have to take the equipment back, so they offered me a deal. If you are willing to pay hardball, it's amazing what you can negotiate. Then when I moved they tried to tell me I had to take the box with me, as there was supposedly a two day wait after they cut off service before you can mail the box back. Right. So I said, fine, cut the service off today, I'll mail the box Tuesday. Then they admitted there actually was no two day wait. They were just gambling that you couldn't live without tv for two days so you would keep their old equipment and keep their service. I said there was no way I would use them again after lying to my face like that.
I've heard you can get decent signal here with an antenna, and it's hi def which I don't even have on comcast as they charge extra. I may try that out and see if it works.

Street witnessing to Christmas Shoppers Yesterday
by snugglebunny inwell, ok, but targeting a german christmas market seems a little hypocritical...
-
LisaRose
They are hanging out by the post office in my town. I had to mail my Christmas packages and they held the door for me as my arms were full. I was late for an appointment or I would have talked to them. It's seems sort of sneaky, as usually there is a Salvation Army bell ringer there, some people might think they are collecting for actual charitible work, not to fund a real estate corporation. The Salvation Army actually helps people, it's a much better use of charitable contributions. -

I'd report THAT to the police, but not THIS...
by Northern Star ini am new to the boards, so a little background info may be a good idea?
also, i'm not quite sure which sub-forum to post this to....
i have a typical religious background for my country; grew up with lutheran christianity (which was our state religion up until 2012; we now have a secular constitution).

I was a Jehovah's Witness for thirty years and I would have reported a murder to the police, even as indoctrinated JW. The law must be obeyed unless it conflicts with God's laws, and I am not aware of any reasoning that says you cannot report wrongdoing to the legal authorities. But I would also have reported child abuse also, so maybe I am not an average JW.

The Watchtower is not invincible
by Coded Logic indespite claims to the contrary, there's no guarantee the watchtower will be around in a few decades time.
and it seems to me there's ever mounting evidence that the opposite may well be true.
but it's not just that recruitment is down and their defectors are up.

you read the post from the Andersons / Reveal News on Splanes X-Splanation to the Portuguese on being wary of enema's of the State of JW -
Enemas? I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Hello
by Lost and adrift in.just plucking up the courage to introduce myself....living in ireland but from the uk originally.
..drifted away due to depression (from all things truth related lol and bereavements and my m.s husband cheating on me and leaving !!
) few years ago but they recently hunted me down (they contacted me the day my other half was diagnosed with cancer!
-
LisaRose
Welcome, so sorry these idiots felt they had to hunt you down, in no way do the scriptures require them to do this, but it's not about the bible it's about control, it's a cult. I moved out of state, so they couldn't do anything, but my family treats me as disfellowshipped all the same. It's a game that you can't win unless you are willing to live as if you were a JW, something I was not willing to do. I wanted Christmas, birthdays, voting and everything else, and to hell with them, I am not going to pretend or change my life to suit others, there is nothing I can do about those who worship eight men in Brooklyn.
I lost my brother and mother to cancer, it's rough.
I'm in the U.S., but of Irish/English heritage. I've been to England, but not to Ireland, I am hoping to visit before I die.

OK friends lets be honest, if a Nuclear Holocaust took place today how many of you would return to the KH?
by James Mixon inspeaking for my self, no way in hell.. this question to see if you really have been deprogramed,.
do you 100% believe it is not the truth.. a fourth of the world hit by a nuclear attack..
-
LisaRose
Are you serious? Why would a nuclear holocaust make me want to go back? To me It's like saying "if there was a nuclear holocaust would you join the Mormons?" , because the Mormons have just as much if a chance of being right as the JWs do, which is zero.
