It's busywork, designed to keep people occupied. People accept it because it's more pleasant than door to door work. People know they are never going to convert anyone, they are just happy to "get their hours in" and get on with their lives.

JW Cart Witnessing = ONE BIG JOKE
by Black Man inwas talking to a good buddy of mine a couple days ago (we pioneered and were in bethel together and have both left the cult a few years ago), about the current cart and d. and the consensus was that it is now a complete joke.
was watching a couple witnesses last week sit at a table with their literature display.
no approaching people for conversation, no initiating stimulating dialogue with passerbys, as was encouraged when i "pioneered" back in the day.

What would you like to have known about JWs before deciding whether to get baptised?
by slimboyfat inif you could go back in time and tell yourself one thing about jws would you do it?
and what would you choose to say to yourself?
do you think you could have convinced yourself not to get baptised if you chose the right thing to say?

Oh hell yes. I remember going to the library to investigate the JWs, but not finding anything much. They had me convinced that they predicted the last days would begin in 1914, and since WWI started then it made it seem like they did have special knowledge. What they didn't say was that they predicted Armageddon would start in 1914, not the last days, the bible students thought they were already in the last days. That's a big lie to tell, and all of it based on the 607 date for the fall of Jerusalem, which is also incorrect.
So, 28 years wasted because of those lies, I would have like to have known.

Won't get fooled again .....
by The Rebel inhaving left the witnesses i hope i won't get " fooled again".
yet life outside the organisation seems one big advertistiment telling me how useless i am.
these advertisements tell me i am physically ugly, which can only be corrected by buying the advertisers " answer to my prayers" product.

Advertising plays on your insecurities, and when you know your happiness does not come from having a fancy car, the latest phone or expensive clothes you become immune to it. Studies show that the people that are happiest are those that have enough money to live comfortably, but not too much.

I think we are all getting tired of this kind of thing. It's terrible, an attack on everyone, innocent people just trying to have a good time, just senseless, pointless violence. I am almost afraid to turn on the news anymore.

So, you are not a creationist, a believer or an atheist huh? Do you worship Baal? I guess you would have a hard time fitting in anywhere then, lol.

Don't assume your husband would make your life miserable if you simply disassociated, maybe he would and maybe he wouldn't, but don't let his bad behavior control you. He doesn't like it and he will do whatever he can to stop it, but what can he realistically do to you if you actually did it? Sometimes the threat of something is more scary to people than the actual fact if it, he might calm down once he realizes that you are going to do what you are going to do. It's your life and marriage of course, but I can say I lived too long in a bad situation because my first husband made things difficult and threatened all kinds of things that I realize now he would never have done, he was just afraid of losing me. If I had it to do over again I would have left years earlier and gotten on with my life.

JW Acumen & Education = NO VALUE IN THE REAL WORLD
by Black Man inhaving been out of the cult for a few years now, i can finally sit back and accurately access the good, bad and the ugly, especially as it relates to education and having a sense of self-worth and realizing your potential.
in my opinion, religion is a total crock, but at least in some religions there is at least some value that you can translate your experiences and education gained in such into the real world.
for example, the mormons have their own accredited university where you can obtain a degree and you can actually put that down on your resume and use it in the real world.

It's so true, all that time we spent bored to tears at the meetings was totally wasted. You might say the ministry gives you some experience in dealing with the public, but these days you never really get to talk to anybody, so that doesn't hold true. At one time it did benefit them to a certain extent, because there was some growth and they made money on the literature, but that isn't even true anymore, it's all now just busy work, knocking at not at homes, driving around to return visits (that are rarely home) and standing by the literature carts. And the meeting are just repeating the same tired information, while most JWs still couldn't explain anything other than the most basic teachings.
It's all just a big waste. Think of what all those people could be doing with their time; doing real volunteer work or getting a real education.
To quote Donald Stump: Sad!

Good to know that Armageddon won't be for at least another four years. I guess it's a little early to start heading for the basement and bunkers.
