A ship (no matter how big) will ultimately sink if it has a hole
by iconoclastic inhumanity is like a ship, and holes are our hobbies (lust, greed etc.
which are fondly renamed as each one likes) which always have been outperforming what science could accomplish!
most of the greater or significant scientific achievements started from 19th centurymay be with the commercial transmission of electricity!

I think Icono's ship has already sunk. -

Suicide Prevention Counseling
by MrCellophane inin the 1980's when i was an elder, i don't remember the society providing any guidance to elders on suicide prevention counseling.
i realize much has changed since then.
can any current/recent elders update me on what the current position of the local elders would be if approached by someone in the congregation contemplating suicide and seeking help?.

This is a subject near to my heart. I knew quite a few JWs who committed suicide, my own daughter attempted twice.
I agree with Steve that it's impossible to know for a fact if the JWs have a higher suicide rate, but I think I can say from experience that their teachings and practices are often not helpful to those going through mental health issues. I can't blame the religion for my daughter's issues entirely, she probably would have had some issues no matter what religion she belonged to. But I also think it did contribute to her problems. I feel we were lucky to have made it through those years alive.
The religion engages in black and white thinking, they use guilt to manipulate people and their shunning practices are harsh. The elders might mean well, but seeing everything as a spiritual issue is not helpful to people who are suffering from depression. They are trained to determine repentance when dealing with issues of sin, when someone having mental issues might not express repentance in the way they expect, or might be too depressed to say what the elders want to hear. Some people take things to heart more than others, being disfellowshipped might be the end of the world to them, especially if they lose their entire support system because of it.
Someone who is a minister or counselor in a church would be expected to have a four year degree and advanced training or go to seminary, because it's important to know how to talk to those undergoing problems, the last thing you want to do is make The situation worse. The Watchtower is more interested in determining guilt and getting rid of those they deem unrepentant, they don't really seem can concerned about the impact this has on the individual.

It's my own fault for reaching out. I KNOW better!!! I set myself up for this, and as expected, got let down. So really, the blame is mine.
It's not wrong to hope your mom would care that you have a serious illness, so don't beat yourself up for thinking that, any decent parent should have cared, no matter what.

eems like Davis got her Reasonable Accomodation after all ins-spite of how much Vivian knows about how the US government is run and me being wrong 100 percent of the time.
What reasonable accommodation is that? She is not allowed to interfere with her deputies giving out licences, she could just have done that in the first place. It sounds like she is the one who made the accommodation.

((Hugs)) I'm sorry your mother let you down. It's true that for a JW their religion is more important than family, but that doesn't make it any easier to take.
I feel for you, I have some serious medical issues myself, so I know what you are going through. I have learned to take it one day at a time and to think positive, even when it's hard. It's often not what happens to you that is hard, but how you feel about what happens to you. You can't change the condition, you can change how you look at it. I highly recommend meditation and keeping a personal journal. I try to remember all the good things I have in my life, if I focus on them it makes the bad things more bearable.

They're coming to get me! =)
by Mrs. Eden inhello friends.
my fleshy sister is seriously getting to my nerves.
she's my only (and younger) sister, and as you know, is married to an uber-circuit overseer.

I would just screen my calls and not answer for a while, especially the sisters that are pressuring you to go out. Talk to your sister if she is behaving, but if she starts in again, say "I'm hanging up" then do. People only have the power over you that you give them. -

I knew a few. One couple I was good friends with the wife, she was late twenties when I met her, stunningly beautiful, professional job, seemed to have her act together. He was early twenties, never had had a steady job, and a complete weirdo dork. I never saw what she saw in him, frankly.

Source? The only place I've seen this info is memes shared by left-wing nuts.
It's in the Washington Post. I consider that a reliable source, but then I'm just a left wing nut, lol.
Yes, she has been married four times, to three different men. I don't think it makes her a bad person, and she says she found religion later in life, but it does make her holier than thou attitude seem a bit ridiculous, in my opinion. -

What happened to "let him who is without sin cast the first stone"?
