It must be very hard to see your son go through this, I am sure any parent would prefer going through this rather than seeing their child go through it. But it's good that he may make a full recovery, you have good reason to hope. -

In Pew Research polling in 2001, Americans opposed same-sex marriage by a 57% to 35% margin.
Since then, support for same-sex marriage has steadily grown. Based on polling in 2015, a majority of Americans (55%) support same-sex marriage, compared with 39% who oppose it.

llboard rhetoric does not persuade or discourage those that oppose ss marriages, it only adds fuel to the fire. SS is not endorsed by religions, but ss is endorsed by the USA, so ss do not have to plead their cause.
Same sex marriage is not endorsed by some religions. There are many religions that accept gay people. I attended a United Church of Christ service that had a gay pastor. This is the church my in laws attend, they are in their eighties and have no problem with it. They are a liberal church, but it isn't that uncommon these days even in more mainstream religions. Even the Catholic church seems to be softening, although I don't know if they will ever fully accept gays.

Not a shallow victory at all. The supreme court rightly recognized that marriage should be available to all, they didn't need a constitutional amendment, they reviewed the law and determined that it violated constitutional rights. Laws are being reviewed and the constitution is being reinterpreted all the time by the supreme court, that is their job.
Possibly women could have been given the right to vote the same way, but the fact is they didn't, for whatever reason. My guess would be that either the constitution was written in a way that did not allow them to interpret it to allow women to vote, or there wasn't the will on the part of the court to do so at that time.
Neither way was wrong, it's how the system is set up. In one case the supreme court interpreted the constitution in a way it hadn't before, in the other the constitution was changed.
Since you do not like the way the court interpreted the law your choice is to work to elect politicians who will appoint more conservative judges in the hopes they will reinterpret the constitution or to work to change the constitution. Whining that it is was done illegally is just sour grapes, since the supreme court is the ultimate authority on interpreting the constitution. They do have the last word, like it or not

I never realized how boring I was.
by John Aquila inas a true believer in the watchtower, i never knew how truly boring i was until being out for a couple of years and then sitting down with a group of jws and having a conversation..
thats what happened this morning.
i decided to go have breakfast at mcdonalds and a group of jws who were out in service and know me also stopped for breakfast and sat down with me and we talked for about an hour.

I had a long unintentional fade, as life experiences and problems made it more and more difficult to live the JW life. As I gained more experience outside of the organization and was less influenced from inside it, I found I had less and less in common with most JWs. I knew a person that was proud of the fact that the only thing they ever read was the Watchtower and Awake. I could not relate to that as I am a lifelong reader and interested in many things, and the magazines are written at a third grade level. While I am no scholar, I would go crazy if that is all I could read. Eventually I felt like a square peg in a round whole, it became very harder and harder to go to the meetings, I hated every minute and I was treated like an outcast.

Rat person, You obviously know nothing about Gay people that you would ask that. They have been hated and discriminated against for centuries. They have been told they are evil, an abomination, unnatural and sinful, all for something about which they had no choice. They have pride because they stood up for themselves and said no more to the haters and the religious bigots. They have pride because it takes makes courage to tell your parents that you are gay, to tell your employer, to tell your church.I have read accounts here on JWN that broke my heart, people who hated being gay, who fought their nature, who tried to be normal, but who ultimately could not do so no matter how much they prayed, and who lost beloved family and friends because of it. Having gone through that and done the hard work to accept themselves as they are, not how they wished to be, they have pride and rightly so.

Implications of gay marriage ruling
by Rattigan350 inwhile many think that the ruling is good for the gays and their response is: how does that affect your marriage; then on the other side the religious people cry god and sinners.
but both are missing the forest through the trees.. the problem with the ruling is that which is discussed here so many times.
five unelected federal officials decided on policy for the whole country, running roughshod over every democratic principle.

TakeOffTheCrown4 hours agoI cannot believe any of you were ever baptized. What are you going to endorse next? Bestiality. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Not a man marrying a man; or a woman marrying a woman.
Endorse this type of behavior on an internet forum if you desire. But keep this in mind, Jehovah knows who you are.I was baptized in May, 1969 at age 14. I prayed every day to Jehovah for wisdom and knowledge and guidance. I faithfully followed the Watchtower rules, staying in a bad marriage and trying to be a good Christian wife for 28 years, to the point that my health broke down and life no longer seemed worth living. At that point I concluded Jehovah either did not exist or didn't care about me and that following the advice of the Watchtower had been a big mistake. So your "Jehovah knows who you are" made me laugh, I've already been through worse than dying at Armageddon ever could be.
So, back to your comments on same sex marriage. There is no correlation between bestiality and homosexuality, except in the imagination of those who don't know anything about either. It's the old "slippery slope" logical falacy, that permitting one type of behavior that is condemned in the bible means you necessarily will eventually allow all other things condemned in the bible. This is not rational. A certain percentage of humans are only attracted to their same sex, It's a fact. It's a fact that they will never be having happy in marriage to someone of the opposite sex. It's a fact that they can be happy, fulfilled and committed to someone of their own sex. Why this is of any concern to you I cannot imagine. You are free to only marry per your religion, no one is forcing you into a same sex marriage. Gay people just want what you already have, the right to marry the person they love and have the same legal protections afforded heterosexual couples.
Yes, the bible condemns homosexuality, as well as a hundred other things. The problem is using the bible to arbitrate morality in the first place. The bible allows rape, as less long as the rapist compensates the father for his financial loss, the woman having no say in the matter. Slavery was acceptable in the bible, and Jesus did not condemn the practice. Men and children were slaughtered in war, women were taken as concubines, but hey, it's all OK because Jehovah said so.
So, no, I don't accept the bible as a guide to morality. I find the "consenting adults" rule to be good enough for me. This is a higher level of morality than was used in the bible, since there is no rape and no slavery allowed under the consenting adults rule. Animals are not consenting adults, so no bestiality. Children are not consenting adults, so no pedophiles (you do know the Watchtower has a problem with pedophiles, right?).
So go back to the Kingdom Hall where you can live in happy ignorance, talking about how degenerate the world is and how happy you are that Jehovah will soon annihilate all those wicked gay people and others who don't believe as you do. The thought of the horrible death of millions of men, women and children doesn't bother you, because of course you are such a moral person.

Today's Special Day Assembly Expenses and the $10,499 Deficit. Silent Majority?
by Tenacious intoday i attended a one-day assembly in my hometown.
i knew when it came time to read the afternoon expenses that it would be an incredibly high and ridiculous amount that was nowhere near the real expenses for that day.
sure enough, after lunch came the announcement.

They have used the phoney assembly hall expenses scam for a long time, I think people are getting wise to it. This seems even more blatant and fake than in the past. It doesn't take a genius to figure out it all doesn't add up.

The conservative Christian right tried to make a big deal about a judge who declined to perform weddings. They claimed that if Kim Davis must issue marriage licences to all, this juddge should have to perform weddings for all. But a judges job is obviously to...Judge. performing weddings has always been optional, it's not part of their job, per se. They are as ready to claim persecution as the Watchtower. While claiming to only want rights, what they really want is privilege.
