Are you serious? Why would a nuclear holocaust make me want to go back? To me It's like saying "if there was a nuclear holocaust would you join the Mormons?" , because the Mormons have just as much if a chance of being right as the JWs do, which is zero.

It doesn't surprise me that some saw him as a threat, he was too well known, a great speaker and loved by many, but he never quite fit the JW "mold", they couldn't have anyone like that have that much power. I suspected as much at the time but didn't ever hear exactly what happened.
It also doesn't surprise me that he didn't condemn you for leaving, sadelder, he was a truly good and kind person, not judgemental at all. I am so glad I saw your post, otherwise I wouldn't have know he passed away.

No, I once did a search for him on the internet, but nothing, I was just curious, he was an interesting fellow, very unique. He was a very social guy, traveled a lot and had friends all over, but I guess he wasn't into the internet, not surprising, he was older. Whenever people found out I was from the area they would ask me if I knew him, he was that well known. I knew him in Ventura, but he lived in Santa Barbara from the eighties on. I last saw him in the ninties, ran into him at a party, he asked about my husband at the time who was disfellowshipped, as I said Weldon studied with him before he got baptized. -

Two dislikes for saying I was sorry someone passed away? Seriously?
Steve, I don't know the story, I heard some rumors, but nothing I care to repeat, it was a long time ago.

I knew Weldon from way back in the seventies, he studied with my first husband. He was a really great guy, was very well known and traveled a lot. I think he served at Bethel at one time. I am sorry to hear that he passed away.

What's More Important...Taking care of immigrants or the needy in your country?
by minimus ini say take care of the needy ones first like our veterans and homeless and mentally ill, and then....take care of those not from this country.

Agreed. That's why I am personally helping a family through a local church. I also donate money to Wounded Warriors, volunteer at my local pet shelter, donate to Angel Flight and always do Angel Tree every year.
Wow, good on you! How strange that you are doing what the opportunity suggested should be done, helping people in your own country, but two people saw fit to dislike that particular comment, I wonder why? I get that some people don't like you, you can be blunt and this is a political thread, but to dislike that fact that you help other people is petty and childish.
I'm trying to leave the world and at least a few people better than they were before I got here. -

Samuel Herd: a woman saying "if she were a man....." is borderline being a homosexual
by Khaleesi innot sure if this was posted before... but apparently for the wt a woman's smaller cranium than a man's shows she was designed to be in submission to the man!!

How sad that a woman in an organization that devalues and marginalizes women would be criticized for simply for speculating what she might do if she had even a smidgen of respect or power, I mean, how dare she?
In our house I am the one who has all the tools, in fact I have asked Santa to bring me a new jigsaw and drill for Christmas, as I have worn out the ones I have. Amazingly, my husband is not threatened in any way, lol.

I ate a REESES PEANUT BUTTER CUP
by JWdaughter init had a football printed on it!
do they sell more because of it?
do they think i need a reminder of the season (its been a rough season for football in seattle)?.

If you think that was bad, this was a complete fail by Reeses. This blob is supposed to be a Christmas Tree.
As far as this being a silly thread, you didn't figure that out from the title? If you think a thread is a waste of time, just ignore it and it will quickly drop out of sight, it's not necessarily to make someone feel bad for starting a thread that you are not interested in.

Privacy
by Esmeralda001 ini need some advice guys.
how do you get people to mind their own buiseness without coming off as rude?.
i was invited to a jw gathering last night.
-
LisaRose
Wow, if anyone interrogated me like that I would be unconcerned about being rude, as they have already been rude first.
You could respond to nosy questions by
"Why do you want to know"
"If you will forgive me for not answering, I'll forgive you for asking"
"Youll have to forgive me, I have to be somewhere/make a call"
"Oh, my life is pretty boring, so let's talk about something else"

by Landy inhi guys - new poster here.
i was brought up a jw in the uk and stopped going not long after i was married.
that was 20 years ago so i'm not really up to date with the current doctrinal flip flops or the new youtube obsessed gb.. came across this site while googling the name of a local elder who's just been convicted of possesion of a pc full of unpleasant pics of kids.. so, my question.

A lot of here are actually out, I have been for fifteen years. People stay in for various reasons, usually family obligations. It's easy to say just walk away, but you aren't walking in their shoes, so why judge? They will leave when they leave.
