I think you should be proud of yourself. Instead of continuing to live in ignorance you had the courage to examine your beliefs and adjust your thinking when you realized you were wrong. This puts you in the minority of mankind, in my opinion. So many people pick a position and then defend it no matter what facts are available. It's not just the JWs or fundamentalists, it's people on both sides of the political spectrum. So much of the current gridlock in politics is because people cannot look / at the facts without prejudice, they just keep insisting they are right and anyone who believes different is an idiot.

My life as a fundamentalist
by joey jojo inas a born-in jw, i never considered myself to be a fundamentalist.
i always thought we were enlightened, progressive and not 'stuck in darkness' like all the other religions.. i was totally wrong.. as far as fundamentalists go, jw's are probably right up there amongst the front-runners.
no, they do not stone people to death or go on religion-fuelled violent rampages but that's not what i'm talking about.

Self-Driving vehicles and delivery robots - why?
by FadeToBlack ini saw a 'news' article today about pizza hut (i think) delivering pizzas via a robotic vehicle in nz.
also another article headline saying it is not a question of if, but when.
my immediate thought was, why?

Self driving cars will be safer, that's a huge reason to me, lives will be saved. I don't like driving and will get one as soon as I can afford it. Especially when I am older it will be a huge advantage, think of all the older folks that can't drive or shouldn't be. Think of all the drunk driving accidents that can be prevented. If enough cars are self driving it will reduce congestion and make commutes easier. It will also save energy as self driving cars are more fuel efficient.
Yes, Uber drivers will lose their jobs, just like there are no longer people making buggy whips. Some jobs are lost, some are created and overall productivity improves with every advance in technology, it's a fact of life.
People will soon be wondering how they ever got along without them.

Coming soon, Apostate Away, a mix of specializated medications for those who are developing critical thinking skills and in danger of thinking the Watchtower could ever be wrong.
Directions Take two capsules of our cognitive dissonance pills in the morning and repeat to yourself "the Watchtower is never wrong" ten times. At night take our patented "Fear obligation and guilt (FOG) capsules" and one Amnesia pill. In morning you will be filled with fear of dying at Armageddon and will have forgotten all your doubts! Guaranteed to work or your money back! (Not really, obedient brothers would never admit we were wrong or ask for their money back)

Prescription Drugs and the Fruitage of the Spirit?
by Luther bertrand indoes anyone have a meaningful response to the following question/points: the fruitage of the spirit found at gal.
5:22: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, mildness, kindness.
goodness, faith and self-control, in many way for many people can be increased through the use of anti-anxiety, anti-depressants, and a host of other pharma's.

I don't think I buy the premise that you can express the fruitage of the spirit by taking drugs, it's far more complicated than that. If someone has a deficiency in brain chemistry, then possibly certain drugs can help them be more normal and then express love, joy, peace, etc., but they have to be capable of feeling such emotions in the first place. If they have normal brain chemistry then the drugs will not do anything for them, and if they are a rotten person with bad brain chemistry, then all the drugs in the world will not make them loving.

That took a lot of courage, so good for you. To those who are not familiar with cults it's quite shocking to see somebody be so brainwashed as to insist that back is white and white is black, but that is how it works, so sad.
Maybe someday some of what you have said to him will come back to his mind and he will be able to get free, but for now he is happy in his delusions and there isn't anything you can do. Sometimes it takes a crisis, being mistreated by the elders or something like that for someone to wake up, you never know.

Deny, deny, deny. They have to have two witnesses, or they can't do anything to you even if she says you did something.

Caitlyn Jenner has cognitive Dissonance
by sherrie11 ini have just finished watching the latest episode of i am cait!
lol yes i watch it!!!
they were discussing politics.

While I get that you can be fiscally conservative and transgender at the sme time, it does seem odd to me that Caitlan still fully embraces a party that for the most part is not very supportive of the LGBT community or its issues.
But then I can fully support a person's right to be be transgender while not liking them very much or agreeing with everything they say. I don't think it's hate, it's just having an opinion.

I dont know how i can leave my family!
by BlackWolf inmy mom and i were talking today about how next summer i will be 18 and she said that just thinking about it might make her cry.
that made me think about how much more it would hurt her if i quit being a jw.
i really do love my parents, i know they are just being cruelly manipulated by a cult and that they really think they are doing what is best for me.

Your parents made their own choices in life, which may or may not have been the choices their parents wanted them to make. You too have the right and obligation to make your own choices, even if that brings them some pain. You can and should make it very clear that you love them and appreciate the fact that they raised you, but that you cannot do something that you don't believe in, it wouldn't be right and it wouldn't be a life of integrity. Hopefully they will understand, but even if they don't you must live your life. It will hurt them some, but they will get over it, just as every parent has since the down of time.
I have raised two children and while they didn't always make the choices I would have, I understood that they had to find their own way in life, just as everyone does, and I love them and respect their right to make those choices. Your life is yours to live and I can assure you that if you stay out of obligation you will come to regret it when you are older. It's a great big world out there, with all kind of opportunities, so never limit your self because of what others may want, you are the one who will live with the consequences.

http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2016-03-13/78yo-female-driver-crash-jehovahs-witnesses-church/7243268.
this was in australia, but the khs i've seen (in the us) are designed so that you'd have to almost intentionally want to ram a building to cause this kind of damage.

I read recently that for some reason older women drivers more often mistake the gas pedal for the brake than older men drivers do. They should test older drivers more, some of them should not be on the road. I was worried about my father in law's driving, as I was in the car when he blew through stop signs and drive 45 in the fast lane of the freeway, but it turned out it was my mother in law who ended up having problems, she made a left turn in front of a motorcycle two years ago, unfortunately it was fatal for the motorcyclist. He was also exceeding the speed limit by quite a bit, but she ended up being 51% at fault. They just assumed it was a mistake on her part, but she has had a few minor strokes since then, so my guess is that it was either an earlier stroke that caused the accident or she was already having them and it had affected her thinking. Neither of them drive anymore, which is a good thing, they are both in their eighties. -
