Science the bible and some telling scriptures
by Crazyguy inif one reads about god creating the earth with any critical thinking you'll notice that he created vegetation and the trees before the sun.
another one that i just read about was the stories about the golden calves.
one story involves the making of a golden calf by aaron and the other is about the golden calves that were set up at bethel and i think dan.

Lets be honest we will never expose the danger to the world of JW.org
by James Mixon ini thought, ok the case in australia would open the eyes of the world about this dangerous cult.. well that passed without a ripple.
we talk about the un and the wt link, none jw's don't.
understand the significance.

The reality is that very few people in the world are ever going to fall for the Watchtower flavor of crazy, most people can recognize stupid when they see it. When a religion has the lowest retention rate of any, and are growing slower than the population, they are never going to hurt that many people. Granted, even one is to many, but when you look at the number of new people recruited into the religion it really is just a tiny, tiny fraction of the earth's population. You would save more people working on global climate change or world hunger.
It's truly tragic that we can't get more out, but that is the nature of cults. You just can't save everyone, at some point there is a responsibility of each person to research the religion they are in.

Directed panspermia - a plausible theory of intelligent design?
by EdenOne ini have just read an interesting article by astrobiologist jacob haq-misra.. in this article he describes a process called "directed panspermia" as a plausible way that one form of intelligent design - one not related with religious driven agendas involving theism - could be involved in the process by which life developed on earth and possibly in other planets as well.. sounds like a speculation that's worth entertaining.
your thoughts?.

It's an interesting concept, reminds me of the book/movie 2001, a Space Odessy. The plot revolves around the idea that some extraterrestrial beings manipulated evolution to create humans.
But besides the fact that extraterrestrial life is highly speculative (as there is no evidence) you are still left with the problem of where did the extraterrestrial designers come from in the first place? Wouldn't they have had to evolve themselves? It doesn't really answer the question of where intelligent life came from.

What is the Education Level of the Governing Body members?
by Wild_Thing ini would love to compile a list of the education obtained by the governing body members both past and present.
can anyone provide any information to get me started?.
it still amazes me they think they can translate ancient languages with an 8th grade education.

Most churches require a minimum of a bachelor degree plus seminary to lead even a small church, advanced degrees are not uncommon. That the leaders of a religion of the size of the Jehovah's Witnesss have not even completed four years of higher education tells you how under qualified they really are.
It also explains why they discourage higher education, they know that an educated membership would soon realize how horrible they are at translating and interpreting scripture.

Being nice to LGBTQ people is an affront to god?
by Viviane inthis should be titled "jerks for jesus afraid of their own shadow, sexuality".
seriously, someone thinks that a video on how to be nice to people different from him is an affront to his god.

He would rather be fired than watch a video on how to treat people nicely? What an idiot. Did not Jesus say of a prostitute "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"? If he is a true follower of Christ he should want to show the same compassion. No one is forcing him to approve of or condone homosexuality, only to treat everyone with dignity.
Christians being persecuted because of their homophobia.
Requiring people to watch a video on how to do their job is not persecution.

VERTIGO: 'My head is moving through space where, in reality, it is not.'
by compound complex ingreetings, fellow posters:.
wishing you well and offering my sympathy if you've ever experienced vertigo.
my neighbor is a physical therapist and told me about the epley maneuver, which i am now researching.. have you ever been through this hell of total incapacitation?.

It started with a virus for my husband as well, though later it happened again for no reason. Vertigo can be debilitating, it's pretty hard to function when your world won't stop spinning. He had something even weirder happen this week, driving down the freeway his vision went completly black for a few seconds. He pulled over and I drive him to the emergency room, but they couldn't find any problem to account for it. He went to his regular doctor this week and they are running more tests.

This week's WT study article "Keep on the Watch" - the latest dumb article from the Gang That Couldn't Think Straight
by sir82 inok so this week's wt study article is entitled "why must we keep on the watch?"..
it is filled with statements on the importance of "being watchful" for the beginning of the "great tribulation".
paragraph 2: “keep looking, keep awake, for you do not know when the appointed time is.”after that, jesus admonished them repeatedly: “keep on the watch.”.

Origin of Life
by cofty inin recent years significant progress has been made in solving the question of how life originated on our planet.. how do you think theists will respond when it finally happens?
as a former christian i know my reaction would have been something like "well that just goes to show that it takes intelligent life to make life", but for two reasons that defense doesn't work.. firstly it would prove that life is not an ethereal force that originates with god.
there is no 'ghost in the machine', no elan vital.

I don't think it will make much difference to those theists that do not believe in evolution currently. There is now pretty much overwhelming evidence that we evolved, yet a certain percentage of believers will not accept it, so they probably will not accept any new evidence of how life originated either, they will just say scientists are mistaken or making it up.
As far as theists who accept evolution, I doubt any new findings will cause them to lose their faith in God, they will just accept the new evidence, but still feel that God exists, because they prefer to believe God exists.

I've been in love with a Jehovah Witness without knowing it for a long time, he hid it from everyone.
by sakurafeathers inhello :) so i know this guy for almost 6 years, i met him when i was 15 and i felt in love.
now i’m 21 and he is 22. we were in the same class and got along very well and he seemed to like me too.
when i confessed, face to face he haven't admitted and he haven't denied it and he acted like he liked me too but couldn't be with me because reasons bigger than him, but i was too young to understand and he was young to handle the pressure he had.

I am glad you understand what you are up against and are trying to move on.
Of course the best thing would be if he could leave, but that's a hard one. If he really knew the history of the religion he belonged to he might see that it is not at all what it claims to be. The problem is that Jehovah's Witnesses have been conditioned to suspect and not believe any thing that is critical of the Watchtower, and that goes double if it is from former members, as we are considered "mentally diseased apostates". This is how cults work and why it is so hard to break free. Even after I left the religion I still had some of this thinking, because it took me eight years before I felt comfortable enough to talk to other former members, I still believed the lie that they were all bitter vindictive people who want to destroy the faith of JWs. You can show a JW direct proof from a major newspaper that the Watchtower lied and they will say it's just a trick of Satan, it's hard to combat that kind of thinking.
If you are interested, I have compiled a list of suggestions on how to help people break free of the Watchtower. It's compiled from various posters who have been successful.

It has some ideas on things to talk about, some information on cults and how they work and shyly me references.
