page 27 - under "jehovah's word is alive," it comments on chapter 2, verse 2: "ruth wanted to take advantage of the provision of gleaning made for the benefit of the foreigners and the afflicted.
she was humble at heart.
a needy christian should not be too proud to accept the loving assistance of fellow believers or any governmental aid he or she may qualify for.".
I remember when this one came out in 1983.
What, though, when the state has programs for financially assisting its citizens? A Christian can cooperate with this. All Christians are obliged to pay "to him who calls for the tax, the tax; to him who calls for the tribute, the tribute." (Romans 13:7) This would include all the taxes that are earmarked to be used for state benefits.By the same token, it is proper to accept any of these benefits to which we are legally entitled because of present circumstances. The apostle Paul said that governments are "God's minister to you for your good." (Romans 13:4) So any grants, any help in the way of pension plans or medical insurance, even public assistance because of poverty, can all be properly accepted by a Christian who honestly qualifies. However, problems may arise.
A Conscientious Decision
Consider the situation of a young man who has chosen a career as a full-time preacher. Since this is unpaid, voluntary work, he takes a part-time job to support himself. It may happen that because the only available part-time employment gives him an income below a certain figure, he qualifies for government benefits. Should he apply for them?
Well, he is not avoiding work. He is making an effort to support himself in an honorable way. As long as the authorities fully understand his situation and agree that he qualifies, there may be no reason for his refusing to accept any supplementary benefits that are available. It is not shameful to accept such assistance. In the United States, even some who work in the military receive it. - The Watchtower 4/1/83 pp. 8-9 "The Uses and Abuses of Welfare"
.
and most importantly, as we all know that this education in the life saving work is second to none, have you placed this grand accomplishment on your resume?
i went in baldwinsville ny around 1988.
Yup, Dover New Hampshire, 1986, still have the book and my class picture. I'll have to scan it and put it up on my site sometime. LOL
i just got off the phone with one of the elders.
they said that if i do go to the jc and ask them to help me understand why they believe certain stuff and then ask for a study i will probably not get df'd.
i can "bow" down to them and do their little game if the results would help my family.. i love my family very much.
Send them a copy of my legal letter. When I sent it to them back in 1999, I never heard from them again.

i remember a few years ago, i changed congregation, so the elders told me that they had to send my folder to the other congregation.
when i was baptized, i don't remeber them telling me they kept information on me, and that they would pass it around to other congregations if ever i moved.. i wonder what kind of information is kept in these folders.
probably everyone in the congregation has his hours listed and the privileges they had written in it, but maybe there is alot more written that we don't even know about.
I was an elder from 1985 to 1995. Whenever someone changed congregations, their old body of elders would send a letter introducing the person or family to the new body of elders. The letter would generally describe their "spiritual condition" along with any recent problems, judicial actions or any restrictions that might be in place due to judicial actions. Along with that would be the Publisher Record Card for a maximum of 7 years. They are supposed to destroy any cards older than 7 years. Any records of judicial action would stay with the old congregation.

in a recent thread someone said that bagpuss was a good name but didn't know what it meant.. bagpuss was a character from a childrens programme in the 1970s and is becoming popular again now.
i chose this name as like bagpuss i am soft, cuddlyand loyal, but will get the claws out when needed.. why did you choose your 'alias' and what does it tell me about you?
My screename is from "The Muppet Show." Doctor Bob was one of the characters on the "Doctor's Hospital" sketch.
i've just been chatting with doug y****, a once upon a time stalwart of the local congregation.. he's recenly been disfellowshipped.
the usual reason, of course.
but he has shocked me with what he had to say.. he said that there have been between 100 and 150 disfellowshippings shared between the 2 local congregations since he became a member in 1966. there is a total membership of around 300 at present.
I was told by a circuit overseer about 8 years ago that between one and one and a half percent of JWs are disfellowshipped per year and that about half that eventually are reinstated.
okay, so we learned in recent threads how jf rutherford was seperated from his wife from the time he took possession of the watchtower society, and how they lived apart thenceforth.
so....to quote butt-head, did rutherford ever "get any"?
did he live a purported "chaste life" that russell claimed to?

Judge Joe "got some" at least once. He has a son named Malcom
early this morning i put out three signs advertising the jw exposure seminar that will take place in tewksbury ma this friday.
i placed them strategically on the approach routes to two different kingdom halls.
when i checked them later in the day, two of them were gone and a new real estate sign was placed right in front of the third.
You could have a little fun by staking out a sign with a webcam and a set of speakers. As you see someone approaching to take down a sign, bellow over the speakers: GET AWAY FROM THE SIGN, THE POLICE HAVE BEEN CALLED AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED WITH VANDALISM AND MISCHIEF. If you know the person, use their full name right at the beginning.
Be close by so you can offer the person a clean set of underwear.
Oh, I have something even better than that planned. I'll let you know after the fact ;-)

When I called the guy who is organizing the seminar, he said that several of the signs he had put up had also been ripped off. A couple of them were nailed to phone poles, high enough that he had to use a ladder. Who do you think would bother with climbing up a phone pole just to rip off a sign? ;-)
