  Regarding local elders doing what they're told.

  I served on a couple of elder bodies and dealt with several others. There were many times when elders didn't know or follow WT directions. The Service desk would send letters chastising elders and referring to such-and-such letter/KS directive. If there are more BOE out there like the ones I'm familiar with, then the WT is going to have more problems in the future.

  I think the WT is in real trouble here. First of all they have unsustainable (blood, two witness, pedophile, etc) policies. And with the exception of some crafty lawyers and inertia from 7million publishers, they really don't know what they're doing. I believe the size and holdings of the WT is what has kept them going this far. The elders at WT HQ running the show aren't that much different from the local BOEs, except that they are more removed from life in the real world...which is probably a bad thing in the long run for the WT.

  Thanks for the answers Barbara.

  I am glad this victim has received the compensation judgment. She tried to get policy change before filing her case last year and now she has had her day in court. The WT should have made changes years ago instead of obstinately staying their course...it is hard to believe they're still in business.

  I hope this young lady and others that have suffered get some justice and a little peace.

  A lot of JWs I know aren't aware of the WT's pedophile policy/problem. They are quick to talk about the Catholic church. Since this case and future cases in California won't be gagged, the details should get out to more JWs and people "studying" with the Witnesses.

  today i added a new article to my blog addressing a dated and signed statement by the watch tower corporation of its financial worth.

  this information is provided for benefit of a jury that has already found in favor of a single plaintiff to the tune of 7-million us dollars and will today be asked to consider whether punitive damages should be added to its finding for the plaintiff.

  This $7m judgment will eat up the money the WT made on one of their recent property sells for $6.6m. Hopefully punitive will come in at an even higher dollar amount.

  This is such good news. I've forwarded to JW family and friends.

  Refriedtruth, I agree. IMO this is bigger than a lot that has happened to the WT in the last decade or so. This not only hits the WT in the pocketbook, it also gets publicity the WT would rather not have. Past cases have been gagged, but not this one...and you say the "best is yet to come..." I can hardly wait.

  Good to hear this victim is getting damages against the WT. Also, under California law the victim/plaintiff is not prohibited from talking about the case so more people will know what has happened. I hope the WT continues to pay for their ridiculous policies.

  The Watchtower's money problem

  the 8/15/12 report on the annual meeting contained very interesting information.

  in october of 2011, guy pierce reported that plans were moving forward with the construction of the new headquarters complex in warwick and tuxedo.

  he mentioned that after the project was finished in 4 years then the society would then sell off the brooklyn properties.

  I was thinking the same thing.

  Another reason I think they're having money/liquidity problems is a recent letter sent to KHs with construction loans from the WTS. Each year the WTS wants the BOE to poll congregation publishers for how much they can pay monthly towards their loan. I think they're interested in early loan payoffs.

  Is the WTS "refinancing" KH loans?

  my mom's kh was built last year with a loan from wts.

  she was talking about a letter to all congregations with loans from wts.

  the letter was asking the publishers how much they can pay towards a refinance.

  Yeah, I forgot about the zero interest. My mom said "refinance" but could have meant "early pay off". The publishers had to fill out slips of paper telling how much they could pay each month (even though they did this before the loan was taken) and they have to do this annually.

  I can't see the WTS reducing the loan payment or "forgiving" the loan altogether for congregations having trouble paying the loan...or would they?
