What parents need to know...

today on montel he is discussing a subject i just did a speech on yesterday.

it's about the medication of children for adhd.

1. that ritalin is a class ii drug and is on the same as cocaine.

I think that Ritalin and other drugs are a horrible thing to use on a child. Why is it that now...in this day and age there are so many children with "ADHD" or "ADD"?? When I was say 7 (20 yrs ago) no one even had heard of ADD or ADHD. If there was a hyper kid...he was just a hyper kid. No meds, no fancy diet, no fancy diagnosis, maybe he would have a special ed. class...but that is about it.

IMHO, these so-called childhood disorders are an excuse for people not properly disciplining their children. I am not talking about "hitting" a child...I am talking about punishment and following through with it, consistancy, if you will. As well, do you not think that the drug companies are perpetuating these "diseases" by pushing their meds down the throats of not just the consumer, but the prescribing doctor as well?

Did anyone see the episode of Dateline or 20/20 where they were talking about kids stealing or buying ritalin to use like cocaine? (they were crsuhing it and snorting it) Yes....kids get high on that now just like every other damn thing out there...pretty freakin scary if you ask me...the things that kids can get their hands on just to catch a quick buzz

Should the US & Canada use the same currency?

since a few years, the euro has been introduced in europe.

many countries share the same currency.. would it be a good idea if everyone in north america would use the american dollar just like everyone uses the euro in europe?

would this be financially beneficial, or would this be a first step in canada becoming a part of the us?

Any students in here?

hello everyone, i was just wondering if anybody else was in college and if so what classes they are taking.

i am currently a senior and will graduate in 3 semesters with a degree in information systems.

i am a little older than most of my classmates since i didnt go to college directly after highschool, this decsion was based on the fine spirtual food provided by wtbts.

Yep Jelly...You're not the only one that is older than your classmates! I have been out of high school for 10 years and I started at the University of Alberta in Sept of 2002. I am working towards my Bsc in Nursing, and I have 3 more years left of school. I have just finished up with classes for the year, but I still have papers due and 2 final exams next week. Should make for an interesting weekend hm?

Visit A Veteran..

i'm going this afternoon to see my uncle at the va today and i just thought i would post what happened last time and offer a suggestion... the va hospital is probably one of the most disgusting place one could visit...kind of like a junk yard for the war machines that gave all they had and ended up wrecks.

mangled bodies missing limbs and the wracked frames, loneliness and unwanted solitude.

well my visit was good and then i went out to smoke...the vets outside talked my ear off for ten minutes and they thought ,when i went to go back inside for more visiting, that i was bored with them....i kindly explained no that i just needed to get back to my visit...i guess to make a long story short i would just say that it wouldn't hurt any of you to go and visit a veteran..even if you don't know them...you can arrange to do so through your local va or through a local nursing home.

I agree totally with you. At the beginning of this semester my first clinical experience was working at a Veterans Hospital. At first, I was a bit scared because I was going to be helping so many "old men" and looking after "many" aspects of their um...ahem..."care". Once I got a chance to sit with a few and get to know them, I fell in love instantly. They love to sit and talk and just bullshit in general. One resident was a fiesty 99 yr old guy, who would sing to us student nurses, and cause trouble with the other residents. A couple of his neighbors said that he "ain't gonna live to see 100 if he keeps this up!"

My experience there will be one to remember forever. My favourite part of the whole experience was just sitting and "listening". Not alot of people "listen" to that generation much anymore, and it is times like these, especially with the war going on, that we need to stop and make time for this treasured generation, because there are not alot left.

There are plenty of homes out there that like to have volunteers come in and visit with the residents. Even if you go in and read the paper, books or just bullshit about sports. Spend time with them and hear what they have to say...you could learn something new.

i am vivamus' mum, and i have heard so much about you, that i'd like to meet you all myself.

i joined the witnesses in 1998, but i have always doubted the organization, but not the faith.

i am still jehovah's witness, but i am sure that the elders will kick me out as soon as possible, should they know what my real thoughts about the organization are.
