  What do I think of atheist Idol Richard Dawkins?

  I have read several of Richards books the most recent being "The Greatest Show on Earth"

  90% of what he says is true its the 10% religious part that has the devil in it.

  The problem I have is the conclusions he draws when he interpets Scientific data.

  Something else I think is the mystery that Richard cant explain is what I call God.

  I need to live in a world where there is a God.

  Richard doesnt need to live in a world where there is a god.

  I find that very interesting, how can people be like that?

  I'm 57 years old and I have been pissed off at God for half of my life

  But I still think there is a God.

  But Richard and his followers believe there is no God.

  And I respect that.

  Richard would probably think I was a fool.

  And I would think of Richard that he is so smart and so complicated that he overthinks the reality that

  we live in.

  RIchard helped me to understand and realize that regarding God, you either believe in him

  or you dont.

  Richard and God also helped me to realize that it might not even be up to us whether we believe

  in God or not, its the way we were made, the way we were wired.

  So I think Richard cant help the way he thinks and I cant help the way I think.

  But to a degree we can control how we behave regarding what we think.

  Fell off the wagon today

  1 year without drinking, you should be proud. If you fall off the horse, you have to get back on.

  Once in another life I went to AA for 7 years back in the 80's and 90's.

  It took me two years to quit and then I went for 5 years without drinking.

  AA works if you work it.

  I dont recall if you are an atheist, if you are AA probably wont work for you.

  The 5 years, I went without drinking were the best 5 years of my life.

  My life got so good that, I stopped following there program and went back out.

  I learned a lot in my 7 years at AA that I have survived about 20 years without it.

  What they teach you at AA is how to live in the real world, something that I never learned as a born in

  JW.

  The reason you want to quit drinking and quit thinking like an alcoholic is because alcoholism leads to suiccide.

  AA is a Suicide prevention program.

  If you are an atheist, I know you were once a deist/ theist, you could go back, it would be worth it.

  If you are an atheist you became an atheist because you made things complicated you over thought things

  and you thought God away, now with no God you are a scarred little weeny. NO God No Peace. Know God KNow PEace.

  AA will teach you how to get God back and how to keep things simple.

  If you just quit drinking and dont follow a program like AA or dont get some kind of good therapy

  you are what they call a dry drunk, you wont get a dui but you will be miserable.

  i started reading "apostate" books when i was a teen at the library.

  it was more curiousity than anything else.

  at home, i used to read all the old publications and i'd notice how beliefs had changed.. with ray franz's books that i read clandestinely, i started to realize the truth about "the truth".

  It took me 31 years but that was back in the 50's to the 70's with no intenet. Information was hard to come by.

  When I got 1976, I still had to figure out how to escape with out totally knocking the apple cart over.

  I didnt leave till 83.

  why are you a theist or a deist?

  please give any or all reasons why without resorting to a god of the gaps argument.

  that is the only condition i am making, since in my (& presumably every other atheist's) opinion, a god of the gaps argument simply isn't convincing enough to demonstrate that there is a god, only that there might be a god.. thank you.. p.s.

  If I choose to beleive in God, it is because believeing in god makes me feel good, or better than not believing in God.

  I've noticed something reading on this board.

  My believing in my concept of God is very innocent and child like.

  And thinking that way gives me peace and happiness.

  It's like the people at AA told me in another life time.

  Keep it simple stupid.

  If I start reading about the inquisition and is the bible full of contradictions I become confused and unhappy.

  But I think I can always try to find the positive or spin it to the positive.

  I have always battled depression I find happiness in simple thinkng about God and the bible.

  I find depression and confusion in analyzing and thinking deeply about God and the bible.

  There is a scripture that says each man has to work out his own salvation so I'm working on mine by trying to believe.

  I'm 58 years old and I dont know of any secret to believing you either believe or you dont.

  And heres another kicker when I say I belive it may not be anything lke you think.

  Your topic is kind of like a meme it attracts me.

  I am currious about our existance and I read pro God and atheistic views.

  I find more peace in pro god views.

  If I try to understand it scripturally which can come across arrogantly or to an atheist ignorantly. God made all kinds of people.

  and he made some for honor and some for dishonor.

  If you dont believe in God, you probably cant believe in God. Your not wired that way.

  Just like I cant believe there is no God.

  Maybe we were made that way or life, time and experience has made us that way.

  So just do like everyone else and enjoy the ride.

  When we get to the end of the ride we will all find out whats going on.

  Another thing I note, I have been out of the tower since 83. So the God I believe in might not be anything like

  the God of the Watchtower and much like the mystery of the universe that many atheist acknowledge.

  my wife and i are finishing reading an excellent book titled " deep healing " by emmett e. miller, m. d. the essence of this book is showing how our mind and body works in synchronicity with our mental health affecting our physical well being.. he also addresses the issue of how " group mentality " or peer pressure can influence seemingly " normal " people to totally ignore reality and allow a " group " of people to coerce them into believing an untruth.

  this experiment was conducted in a college by psychology professors .

  called the " red hatted thief " it went as follows :.

  A few new pictures from Alaska

  last week (i left on 5-17-10) i was sent to juneau to work i took about 5 gb worth of pictures and a few short video clips.

  the camera was a nikon coolpix l22, it's a pretty decent little camera.

  unfortunately it had a dust spot or two under the lens.

  It is historical fiction from the time of the Wooly Mamoth to the 1980's.

  My journey has lead me to further exploration of reincarnation.

  This week I have been reading the book "journey of souls" by Michael Newton, next I am going to

  read the tibetian book of the dead.

  I like to believe earth is a soul school.

  We choose our lessons in the spirit world and come down here to learn them.

  I think one lesson I came down here to learn is letting go.

  And I'm not doing very good at it 27 years out of the tower and I'm still mad and upset.

  So I think I will be coming back.

  I think earth is a soul school.

  I think we are spirits in a material world.

  I think we reincarnate and live many lives.

  At least that what I am reading about this week.

  I believe in God.

  But in reading about reincarnation, I see some believe in many gods and some believe in 1 God, thats among those

  who believe in reincarnation.

  I believe there is some higher power some higher intelligence.

  On this forum I see there are many people who do not believe in God and some tend to be millitant about their

  belief, maybe because of having been hurt by the Jw's.

  What ever I believe, I cant prove it

  And what ever anybody else believes, they cant prove it either,

  or else we would all agree.

  I've been out since 83.

  I used to have nightmares in the 90's about going back.
