What's the difference between a Baptist and a Pentacostal?
A Baptist will say hello to you in a liquor store.
hi guys, been a while since i've posted.
summer is very busy at my job, lots of ot, which is good because winter is slow and i barely get my f/t hours.
anyway, i had to post this to see if anyone has seen a similiar situation in their congregation.. i drive a lot for work, do home visits for a local visiting nurse association.
What's the difference between a Baptist and a Pentacostal?
A Baptist will say hello to you in a liquor store.
just a synopsis of this aspect of my story.
i hope others will join in and tell us how this modern marvel of communication affected your exit [or your investigation, or perhaps entrenching] from the organization.. we all have doubts at times.
mine were scattered over almost 5 decades, from the age of four when my mother accepted the religion.
I escaped befor the internet.
I escaped because the society predicted the world would end in 1975.
It took me until 1981 to figure out how to escape.
I got a news letter called "comments from the friends" they have a web site now.
I knew something was very wrong with the way I had been brought up and the news letter
endorsed, fortified my belief.
5 years ago, I was surfing the net looking for the meaning of life and one of my searches brought me here.
Its comforting and alarming to know that I was not the only one the Watctower did a number on.
Coming to this site and reading the varied post has broadened my horizons and understanding of this life.
Coming here is one of the things I do that keeps me interested,
helps me to keep pluging away living out what life I have left.
so, i'm back, and many of you wanted me to post the unfolding drama that is my life at the moment.. last week i came out and told my father that i was in the navy, and was going to be trying out for aviation search air rescue.
it's an extensive rate, and one that has a 40% failure rate among those who qualify.
so needless to say, i do nothing but run and swim.. anyways, the reaction was what i expected.
My son went in the Navy.
I was out of the tower 11 years when he dropped the bomb on me.
I didnt like it but I didnt let him know.
I supported him 100%.
Now hes got a masters degree and GI benefits and a good civilian career in medicine.
Thats more than I got out of reading the Watchtower and Awake magazines.
My mother being a witness never supported me in anything I tried to do that didnt involve selling
magazines, I'm 59 years old and still pissed off at her for that.
at the kingdom hall today, the speaker emphatically stressed that the kingdom of god is here with us, what else do we need, dont we enjoy this spiritual paradise we are currently blessed with by jehovah or what more do we need.
he further stressed that we must not allow over anticipation rub us off enjoying this wonderful spiritual paradise.
we must be content with what we have and let jehovah act in his due time..
I think that is the message of the bible and the reality for all Christians.
The Kingdom was here back in the day of the Apostles, thats why many dont believe Jesus was the Messiah.
Life is what you make it, Jesus, God and the bible are tools.
Some using Jesus, God and the bible have good lives, some have bad lives.
I think it boils down to attitude,
Attitude determines your altitude.
Jesus God and the bible cand give you a good attitude.
You have to read the bible daly and believe.
Just my 2cents
years (many decades) ago, most jws knew what their religion taught.
they could go toe to toe with a minister or priest and make some good points.. i believe today's witness knows little about most of the convoluted teachings and revisions of the "truth".
yesteryear's witnesses got a 9/10.
Anyone who is a witness today, in the information age has to be dumb.
Even if its self inflicted stupidity, its still dumb.
funny how the reason that jw's say no to a lot of stuff such as doing toasts or politely saying god bless you when someone sneezes, is that their origins were pagan.
as a jw, i never really agreed with this.
what does it matter what it meant in the past?
When I was growing up as a JW in the 60's I thought I was crazy because nothing made
sense, within the watchtower and out of the watchtower.
Now that I am almost 60, I can look back and see nothing made sense in the watchtower
and out of the watchtower.
When people try to control you,
And someone is always trying to control you.
They dont make sense.

ok, so his "logic" is horribly convoluted, but i'm intrigued (as you might be, farkel and others).
I work in a jail. I am 59 years old, I have had 5 female officers under 30 hit on me in the past 3 years.
I know they hit on other older officers also.
I'm married so I dont respond and I dont know if they are looking for a sugar daddy,
Or if men there own age are just too immature.
"for the first time in human history a dinosaur fossil is presenting us with the opportunity to see what a living dinosaur looked like.
in 2001 a field research team unearthed the worlds most complete dinosaur fossil, a brachylophosaurus nicknamed leonardo.
this incredible dinosaur has all of its skin covering its body, missing only a bit on the head and tail.

All I can think is many of you are very young and very unread.

Civiliazation poped up about 5 thousand years ago in Babylon wich was called Sumer, they were very advanced
they understood mathematics beyond their need and they could plot the stars.
When man killed off the dinoaurs it was durnig the middle ages they had swords, and bow and arrows.
Probaly the only humans that just had clubs got lost in the woods.
There werent as many big dinosaurs as there were buffalo.
There is a lot of disinformation going on in this world, one way to get to the truth is to follow the money.
However modern man came into existence and there is more than one explanation I dont believe they were primitive or
ignorant, modern man was created by the Gods or God in the image of the God or Gods.
And modern man was given advance intellectual information such as mathematics and metallurgy from the Gods.
